Subject: * Planet Rock Profiles Hi there angels, Just wanted to say I taped the Planet Rock Profiles thing last night, it was pretty good, about 25mins long,Jewel talked about lots of things, spoke about how she feels about the old album, why she chose the label she did, when she lived in a car erm lots of stuff, she also spoke about HGH which I thought was great, they showed lots of clips of her vids, in all it was pretty good. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 30 Jun 1999 10:56:48 EDT From: Fairy2884@aol.com Subject: * camden concert hey all~ i've been debating a bunch of things about the camden concert. i'm going (hopefully) with my boyfriend who is not a jewel (he claims listening to her music makes his ears want to bleed and that it's depressing and stuff i don't thinks so but ya know) and i was wondering if anyone else has done this and had a good time? but also iwas wondering what i should wear. i know i know, i sound like a looks obsessed teenager, but guess what? i am! well, sort of at least. i have this totally adorable red peasant shirt with blue flowers, it has an open back and stuff. it's totally sweet. but, i tried it on with a long dark denim hip-hugging skirt. is this good concert wear? i've never been to a concert before (i know it's pretty sad to see a 15 year old girl who has never been to a concert before, except for a free green mountain energy concert last summer with james taylor, whom i love ALMOST as much as jewel) so i really don't know what to expect. and another thing. my boyfriend has a hand held tape recorder, a really little one, do you think it'd be a good idea to take it? i mean, i want to record it, but is it a good idea? and i was gonna take a throw away camara, are you allowed? well, anyone who wants to give me details on jewel concerts please e-mail me! love ya! buh-byes! ~Amanda~ ~the poetic angel~ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 30 Jun 1999 11:30:18 -0500 From: "Karacostas, Derrick W." I've met Steve a few times before, and the last time, I gave him one of my cds. He was really excited and said I "made his day". I wanted to talk to him again, and give him a copmleted cd. Is there any way I could possibly do this? I have to actually give it to him, because I know the mail doesn't work (it rarely if ever gets to them). Any help I could get would be really appreciated. Hello Fellow Angels! I have been gone for far too long! Graduated college and haven't had email for a while, but here I am... back to bond with all of you wonderful Jewel fans. For those of you who have been part of this for a while, I met some of you at Temple University in Ambler PA when Jewel performed there..I was interviewing people for Temple's TV station! I have seen Jewel perform live 5 times now..including her recent Irvine performance this past Sunday..which I found to be INCREDIBLE! I had amazing seats...paid enough for them too! But gladly moved to front stage when she invited the audience to pass by security and join her. Think I may have gotten great pics too! Anyway, I am so happy to be back in touch with all of you! I would love to get some new angelfood too.. I have plenty to share as well! Can't wait to hear from you! Its just > disappointing for me.. don't ask me why but that's just how i feel. Isn't > being spontaneous part of being an artist? Yes, I suppose it can be disappointing to find out that something that seemed completely spontaneous when you first heard it is part of "the regular show"... but that doesn't make it any less enjoyable a story, I don't think... and I certainly wouldn't let it ruin the show, for me. Remember -- it *is* a show -- a production, not a spontaneous outpouring of art. As for spontaneity, I have to sort of laugh at the idea of someone telling an artist, "Hey, you're scheduled to be spontaneous at a concert at 7 p.m. tonight in California... tomorrow, you have to be spontaneous at a radio interview in Denver in the morning, then it's on to more riotous spontaneity in Denver at your concert at 8 p.m." There's only so much "spontaneity" you can muster up when you're playing roughly the same set of songs every night, for weeks on end. Put yourself in her shoes -- when you're tired, jet-lagged, and under tremendous pressure to perform and be "on" 100% of the time, do you feel all that spontaneous? I know I don't... the only spontaneity I'm capable of when I feel like that is napping. And that's more because I just can't keep my eyes open, then out of any real desire to be spontaneous. Whether we like it or not, folks... Jewel is big news these days. To borrow an expression from Swingers, "She's money, baby." Nothing she's doing at this point seems (to me) to be done in a "small" way. When performer, and her road show gets that big, a lot of the room for "artistic spontaneity" gets lost, because the show is SUCH a big production -- everybody has to hit their marks right on cue, or things get screwed up, and then everybody complains about what a sucky concert it was. ... and, in all reality, how many people do you know that want to spend 35 dollars to go to a show and hear a bunch of songs they've never heard before? (This list is probably NOT the typical cross-section, either...) Most people want to go and hear the songs they've heard on the radio, and maybe some of the songs from the CD they MAY have bought... I don't think they really want to sit there and here a bunch of songs and music they don't know. Remember, this is the same listening audience that put the Backstreet Boys and Spice Girls at the top of the charts... I don't think they're really looking for spontaneity, you know? That's my two cents on spontaneity... if I were you, I wouldn't let it get me down... just don't get your expectations up that you're going to see a mind-blowing level of spontaneity at a concert put on in front of 15 - 30,000 people...
