Hey, this is more of a question for the more veteran EDAs but I'll take an answer from wherever I can get it. During her 1996 tour Jewel's opening act for part of the tour was Duncan Sheik. At a couple of shows she joined Duncan onstage her his closing song. My question is, does anybody remember what song that one? I'm looking for the title. I assume it was the same song she was dueting on each night. I particularly was at the Tradewinds show in Sea Bright NJ and she did it, but I don't remember the name of the song, in fact I don't think I ever knew it. So if anyone could help me out with this one I'd appreciate it. Email me privately of course. Thanks, Sean Hooks ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 30 Jun 1999 01:11:02 EDT From: BRONCOBAND@aol.com Subject: * NJC: You are all wonderful :o) You know...I just had something sort of fall onto my cheek (figuratively speaking)... YA'LL ARE SUCH BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE :o) I was just reading away at my email that has piled up from me not checking it in days and it hit me sweetly like a wave of emotion, or appreciation rather. Out there in the world, I know that there are big problems, small problems, maybe insignificant problems (in the long run), but I also know that no matter what the challenge may be, it is always real and significant to whoever is facing it. Also, I know that most, if not all of these difficulties, can be overcome/solved/or whatever you want to call it. I am sort of straying from the subject here, but what I'm trying to get at is that it's when I come in contact with a kind person, word, or gesture, etc., that I am reminded of what really matters in life and how lucky I am to have a family that loves me, and so on and so on. It's easy to loose sight of, so I just wanted to say that you ARE making a difference, people, so keep it up :o) Good job! Thank you! And all of that great stuff to let you know that Jewel makes a difference and so do you! Each and every one of you! And I don't want a single one of you to think that I'm not referring to you, even if you haven't posted in three years or something :o). Have a marvelous day everyone! Like the mexico story and the modelling convention story... I dunno there's just something about stories being told like that... You feel sort of ripped off knowing that they're so prepared and that they haven't just sprung to Jewel's mind.. << Maybe you feel that way because you've heard the story before. But not everyone has. And I can tell you that those who hadn't heard the story before loved it. She uses the stories to introduce the songs and if a certain story happens to go with a certain song then that's how it is (ie The Mexico story and the Model convention story). Remember not everyone who goes to her shows is an EDA who knows all about it already. >>She's probably got to remember to do them at each show to market her upcoming book.... That's what I think anyway >> Good move. Get pissed start throwing around baseless accusations. At the Jewel show in Irvine, beforehand there was a side show concert, by someone named Kendell Payne. Does anyone have any info on her? They're playing her on my radio right now, its quite weird! As a side note, my dad (who went to the show with me, along with my mother and best friend), was kinda mad when Jewel called all the people up to the front from the back, because he felt he paid for his good seats for a reason. Anyway, he called up the arena the next day, and I guess they got very mad at Jewel for what she did. i guess she's not supposed to do that, for safety reasons. just some small info:) Ami ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 30 Jun 1999 00:15:36 -0700 (PDT) From: Raymond Wong Subject: Re: * Re: Jewel Concert Taping Steve Marriott wrote: > 1) Even though this topic has been addressed in the (somewhat outdated) > Jewel-FAQ, does the information still hold true? I believe this part has been covered, but just to make sure people remember, Jewel has never officially allowed taping in terms of policy. She talked about how much she appreciated getting tapes and such, and essentially said she didn't object to people sneaking in recorders. However, the Jewel camp has intentionally avoided making official statements. Mr. BB has made no secret that if they were ever forced the make an official policy, it would most likely be one of "no taping." They're not actually against taping, but they're uncomfortable going against the record label, et al, to allow it. (Allowing taping does require a fair amount more arranging, as royalties and permission to use other material and many things get more complicated, I've been told by other sources) > 2) All of the venues that I will be seeing Jewel at have a "no taping > policy unless otherwise specified" policy (the artist/artist's management > allows it). Is this the case with this current tour? I can always smuggle > in my equipment, but it would be nice if I (and other tapers) didn't have > to go through the hassle. And the reason why I'm posting this tonight. I just got back from one of the mellowest-security concerts I've been to, and I hadn't brought my recorder. At this point, I think the J team strategy is clear: They don't tell the venue to allow it, but during the pre-concert planning, they probably place little emphasis on preventing it. That is, in my experience, most venues sit down with those arranging the concert and go over priorities for security, etc. If they aren't told to check people closely, they probably won't bother. I got part of my jacket prodded tonight, but not enough to have made it difficult to conceal a recorder or camera. If only I'd gotten that sense before I went. Oh well, did anyone else catch tonight's (Mountain View) concert on tape? Shoreline Amphitheatre can be one of the strictest venues around, but they weren't tonight. They were keeping an eye on plenty of things, but unless you tried to setup a mic stand I doubt recording was an issue. :) So anyway, in all likelihood, most of the remaining venues won't officially allow anything, but won't be terribly agressive in stopping it. Of course, now that I've posted this, things might change a bit, but unless people really start pushing it, things probably won't change much for this tour. Whether this is really different from before, or if there's going to be long term changes, is hard to say.
