Hello EDA- I'm starting to make my preliminary plans to attend the Bakersfield Jewel concert. Yeah, I know, it's less than a week away, but I've taken the day off work and plan to get a rental car (to save my poor old car any more problems). If anyone wants to get a ride from the Bay Area, **Sacramento specifically** or can get at least to Sacramento, I'll be happy to add you to my car. :) Or if you are somewhere on the way from Sac. to Bakersfield, you too can join the ride!! Just drop me a line at ratlab@hotmail.com ASAP. Subject: * Houston EDA Gathering Update! (6/21/99) These updates will appear at most once a week until the week before the show, on July 10. Some EDA's are also planning to go to the Dallas show which is the day before, and the New Orleans show, which is the day after. These updates will only refer to the Houston show though...as far as whose going, the plans for earlier in the day, after the show, etc. As of right now, there aren't any *definite* plans, however some things have been tossed around, and we are speculating they will occur...once we figure out a time, place, etc. Plans call for an all-day gathering...before the show, and maybe after as well. Once a placed is established, we plan to have a BBQ/picnic/plywood roping contest/beer guzzling contest (j/k) whatever else you can think of that's FUN! Some EDA's will be arriving Friday night very late, coming back from the Dallas show. So no time or place has been established yet as for when this gathering will "start", and where it will be. More than likely, there will be some sort of BBQ either at someone's house, or wherever we can find a good place for that. This will occur around lunch time I'm guessing...but this isn't definite. We'll all hang out till it's time to make our way to the venue, allowing enough time to get there to see Steve take the stage at approx. 8:00pm. I'm predicting he'll play about 45 minutes, then there will be a 15 minute break for stage preparation for Jewel, then I think Jewel will play at least 1 1/2 hours...which I think is really cool since the longest I've ever seen her perform before was 1 hour. So it most likely won't be over till at least 10:30, maybe even closer to 11:00pm. After that some of us may get together and go to a club, or just hang out somewhere. But others maybe not be able to, and yet others may want to get an early start on their road trip to New Orleans the following day. So all this is still really up in there air. But we'll think of something soon enough. Right now we're looking at about 15-20 EDA's...unless more get tickets soon. 99% of the covered reserved seating is sold out. Ok, ticketmaster.com is showing *1* seat left for the covered reserved section...so that's really more than 99% sold out. And the non-covered reserved seats are going quickly...they're about 70% gone already. So don't wait too much longer if you haven't already bought tickets. They are only $36.00, that includes all the taxes too, which to me is cheap based on the prices of other recent shows. Lawn seats are even less of course, if you prefer that. So that's about it for now...here's a list of all the people that have told me they're planning on coming to the show in Houston...if you have any questions, e-mail me, Dennis, Luna, or Tessa...I think we're the ones that are "sort of" getting this all together...or so it seems anyway...ha ha. All the e-mail address appear below. One of us should be able to give you somewhat of an answer...at least to the best of our knowledge at this time. The show is still about 3 weeks away, so once it's closer, (within a week) I'm sure we'll have more plans ironed out as far as the where's, when's, etc. Till then, I'll just be resubmiting this letter to the list once a week (with maybe a few minor changes), along with the most up-to-date list of EDA's going. If anyone sees any incorrect or missing info in the list, let me know so I can get it corrected ASAP. Here I was waiting for the concert to air and this guy comes on and starts talking about Jewels life, he first staies that the "canadian" born singer ( how off is that) played in coffee shops until she was old enough to play in bars and then madi it big when she moved to america. I mean, Canadian, where'd he get that from!!!!! Well I thought it was kinda funny, the concert itself was really good. If you don't know, jewel is in the UK charts at number 38. well as she's virtually unknown here, maybe by just being in the charts this week, some people will like the song and it could climb next week, fingers crossed anyway. I did get a call today of interest to all you SoCal EDAs. As you already know, a special EDA gathering is scheduled for next Saturday at noon at a place called Newbreak On The Beach in Ocean Beach, prior to Jewel's hometown gig at the Coors Amphitheater that evening. As I previously mentioned, during the first hour of this gathering, staff from Higher Ground For Humanity & The EDAFoundation will be joining me, so we can chat with EDAs for about an hour, prior to the live musical performances scheduled. I know many of you want to learn more about HGH & The EDAF. This is your opportunity to learn more directly from the people involved. Since I wrote you last time, Lenedra, otherwise known as Jewel's mom, manager & co-founder of HGH, has confirmed that she will be joining us there during that first hour, noon to 1pm. I highly suggest you get there early as space is limited & the OB Street Fair will be going on that day. We look forward to meeting many of you there & seeing many familiar faces. Here's the info below for those who still need it. Seeya there!
