I know one of them was Nik- (Hi Nik!) and I don't know who the other person was, (hi to them anyway!) I just wanted to say that I saw it too. And I will say more than just that she looked hot... lol It just mentioned all the days of the tour, and in the backround it had the new Jupiter and some spots of Jewel singing, which I do believe, if I'm not mistaken, are from the HGH launch. ALSO there were commercials on the radio too. They were basically the same thing, music playing in the backround, blah, blah Spirit tour coming to Milwaukee on August 14th, it mentions Steve and Rusted Root, you know, all that kinda stuff. I'd bet that they were on most of the radio stations where she was touring, but I never heard anyone post anything about it, and I'm always ready to jump at the oppotunity to post, since everyone else knows everything before me!!! lol and since I don't think anyone has mentioned it... I did! so there! If you heard them too, (and so I know I'm not going insane... =)) let me know! OH YEAH~ anyone going to the MILWAUKEE SHOW please email me!!! or even if you're not going to the show, but still live around there anyway... I'd LOVE to hear from ya! thanks for listening!!! =) hugs*~ mandy the angel who loves that her name gets to start with the (and, oh yeah, Steve WILL kiss me too... =) ) aka "the angel that loves rich right back" ~hi rich! aim: daisie eda icq: 14168335 ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 18 Jun 1999 00:49:15 -0400 From: Courtney M Gordon Subject: * fans Dear Everyone, <> I agree with Shelia on this. there do seem to be a great array of "fans" on this list. (the ones who obsess over everything, the ones who like her music and that's it, and the ones who are inspired by her) I dont' think i ever did before so i'm seizing the moment to state why i love jewel. Jewel sends an awesome message i think, of just to follow your heart, speak up for yourself, be yourself, all that good stuff. Jewel's music is very honest, as with her poems. It seems to me that she's not afraid to sing and write about some things that society looks on as taboo or too racy, whatever, such as sexuality (Race Car Driver), religion (WWSYS), drug use (the much disputed Amen), etc... And in Night Without Armour, she said she didn't want to leave out the poems that seemed at all awkward or different, because that was how she felt. I've noticed there are few artists like that who say what they want and do what they want. (A small hand full.....Courtney Love, Jewel, Tori Amos...) and I think it is very admirable that she does that. I've always believed that you should stand up for yourself and say what's on your mind, and then worry about what other people think of it later. (yes, i am very self-righteous) So i think it's good that there are more female role models popping up that are kind of silently saying "Dammit I'm gonna be sexually provacative, i'm gonna sing about acid, and i'm gonna say what's on my mind if i want to, and if you don't like it, go to hell.". Okay, so that's a harsher way of saying it, but still. Okay, i think i've made my point. love and luck always courtney ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 18 Jun 1999 05:58:13 -0400 From: Mike Connell Subject: * repost - Repeat of Jewel SNL appearance on Friday evening This is just a reminder/repost of a message I sent Monday - Mike :-) Sender: owner-jewel@smoe.org Precedence: bulk Hi folks :-) According to the Comedy Central website, they will be repeating an episode of Saturday Night Live Friday evening that had Jewel as the musical guest. It airs at 6:00pm eastern time, please check your listings for other timezones. (please note that during the whole day, Comedy Central shows OTHER episodes of Saturday Night Live, and this is the only *scheduled* airing of this particular episode Friday.....it's episode # 991). For those that may not know, Comedy Central is a cable network in the USA. It was an episode hosted by John Goodman in early May 1997, and she sang Who Will Save Your Soul which featured a sax solo by Joshua Redman (which was very "list controversial....what a surprise) and You Were Meant For Me. I am not sure if the repeat this Friday will have both musical numbers (I doubt it very much), as the airing is only an hour and the original episode was 90 minutes long (as are all Saturday Night Live shows). The Harris Clan (tm) is sponsoring a simple, sweet and to the point activity for this year's July 16-18th annual Bearsville campout in Woodstock, NY. Knowing how hot a topic "JEWEL CHANGING" is nowadays, we want to have you EDAs change Jewel! (Well, her lyrics anyway!) That's right, the First EDA "Jewel Forgot the Lyrics, So We're Gonna Make 'em Up for Her" contest is on! YEP, WE'RE GONNA CHANGE JEWEL'S MUSIC OURSELVES! (I can hear the purists on the list howling in terror already! ;-) Here's how it works: 1) Take your favorite Jewel song (or your LEAST favorite) and rewrite the words, preferrably in a satirical manner. In fact, only funny entries will even be considered! Try to use a song that isn't tough to play (or fake) on the guitar, as your backup band will be the EDAs who think to bring their guitars to the campout! 2) Send your entries to HarrisBros@aol.com. Deadline for entries will be July 12th... (please don't send your original emails as they cannot be returned ;-). 3) Our distinguished panel of judges will read the entries and select a half dozen or so to be performed at the traditional Saturday night bonfire at Bearsville. We'll record the live event and if the resulting tape is worth listening to again, we'll share it amongst the EDAs! 4) A prize will be given to the absolute crowd favorite. All other entries played that night will be immortalized on the tape! 5) If you attend Bearsville and submit an entry, you get first dibs at singing it. Otherwise, you are at the mercy of whoever is capable of still reading lyrics that late at night. I know that Amy already has four versions of "FatBoy" written, so I'd avoid that particular song. Anything else is fair game, I suppose... Dennis (Don't like it? Change it!) I just got my pictures back of when I went to NY and on VH1 Storytellers!! They are truly great! Lindsey and I were the only ones in the studio that were brave enough to start snapping our cameras at Jewel while she was signing autographs after the show. I havent heard how hers came out. But I got an incredible close-up of Jewels face! Her eyes are looking downward cause she was signing something and she kinda has a funny look on her face... Maybe she was signing that plywood cows nose! Ha HA!! Sorry I don't have a scanner :-( I have about 3 others of Jewel but they are the back of her (as she was being taken away). I have about 6 great shots of Steve Poltz. One pic is of him giving me a kiss on the cheek :) I cant wait for you all to see them. I'll definetly bring them to Bearsville!! I already ordered copies of them too in case someone wants one! The lucky, happy, city angel!! - - Kelli ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 18 Jun 1999 15:21:54 GMT From: "\"ßrian\" H." They talked a lot about Religion in it. Jewel said that she prays everyday, and takes one hour everyday for silence, which I think is pretty cool. She also talked about how before she wrote about 5 songs a week, and now she doesn't write nearly as much, but the are better. There probably was some more. So, if anyone is from the Twin Cities area, they will probably play this again, it is pretty cool. I'm sure they will play it again because they usually play those segments over and over until you get sick with them. At least that is what they did with the other artists.
