Today's Subjects: ----------------- * OTHER versions of this Jewel list are available, newer folks PLEASE read :) [Mike Connell ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Tue, 15 Jun 1999 21:14:08 -0400 From: Mike Connell Subject: * OTHER versions of this Jewel list are available, newer folks PLEASE read :) Howdy folks :-) This is mostly for the benefit of anyone who does not know that the Jewel mailing list comes in three versions. With Jewel now back in the United States to begin her North American portion of the Spirit Tour, that fact, along with television and media appearances that naturally go along with it, posts to the list will start to increase in number....heck, it already has. It is liable to increase more. I personally expect it to double or perhaps occasionally triple from what was the norm a month or two ago. Basically, I would expect (on weekdays), the average to be from between 35 to 70 posts a day, where the norm a month or so ago (and the last year) was in the 25 to 40 posts-a-day range. I don't want any of the newer folk to freak out when you see this. We have alternative versions of this list that you may like better or that may suit your needs better! :-) The three versions are: 1) loose mail - you receive each post from jewel@smoe.org individually 2) digest - you recieve ALL of the posts, but in larger sized emails that contain about 15 to 30 posts inside of each digest. 3) news - posts sent to jewel@smoe.org that are of a news nature. These posts will contain information about Jewel, as well as occasional posts about EDA/list member get togethers, organized tape offerings etc. There is no discussion on this news list. (Subscribers to the news list CAN post to the regular Jewel@smoe.org list) Rather than re-type a whole new detailed description of the three versions, below I have included an edited version my "form letter" that I send to folks who write into me asking for information on how to subscribe, or asking about the various versions. Please read this and choose an alternate version if you feel it's best for you and your needs :-) Also, at the very end of this, I've added on small sample digest. (So you folks can see what a digest is like) If you have ANY questions, please feel free to email me :-) Mike - Jewel mailing list owner :-) ***** The edited "form email" describing the three versions and how to subscribe to either: Depending on which version of the three Jewel mailing lists you wish to subscribe to, follow the appropriate directions below. If you wish to subscribe to more than one, you'll have to send multiple emails using these methods. Please note, if you wish to subscribe to a different version while UNsubscribing from another one, you will need to send an email to the same address, but just substitute the word unsubscribe where indicted below. Please note that the main Jewel mailing list is a relatively high volume mailing list. (presently 25 to 40 emails a day, the digest version has ALL of them, but presently comes 1 to 3 times a day) If the "high" volume version isn't for you, (it's not everybodies' cup of tea) I highly recommend jewel-news. It has anywhere from 10 to 30 emails a *week*, and 98% of it is only news about Jewel, ranging from tour dates, TV appearances, magazine articles, webcasts, recorded music releases and any other news type announcements. Below is separate info on how to subscribe to or unsubscribe from to any of the three versions. ********************************************* Subscribing to/unsubscribing from the main/loose mail Jewel mailing list: ********************************************* This list is the one with 25 to 40 emails a day. I fully expect this to double or more during the course of the Spirit Tour in North America this summer. To subscribe, send an email to: jewel-request@smoe.org and put ONLY the two line command subscribe end in the BODY of the email. What you put in the SUBJECT of the email does not make a difference. To unsubscribe, just substitute the word unsubscribe above. ***************************************** Subscribing to/unsubscribing from the Jewel-digest mailing list: ***************************************** This list is the one with 1 to 3 LARGE emails a day (large meaning about 20K in size). Each digest has about 15 to 30 list emails inside of it, which (counting 1 to 3 daily digests) over the course of a day are ALL of the daily emails to smoe.org. I fully expect this to double or more during the course of the Spirit Tour in North America this summer. Remember, there is a sample digest at the end of this email for you to view :) To subscribe, send an email to: jewel-digest-request@smoe.org and put ONLY the two line command subscribe end in the BODY of the email. What you put in the SUBJECT of the email does not make a difference. To unsubscribe, just substitue the word unsubscribe above. Added note - if you choose digest over loose mail, I also recommend Jewel-news as a supplement. All posts to jewel-news comes from the loose mail/digest versions, and of course are buried in the digest, where you may miss an "important"/newsy post if you skim the digests. By adding Jewel-news to your digest subscription, you won't miss anything "big" if you fall behind in reading the digests, as the news posts are separate and "stand out" and are more noticable. ************************************************* Subscribing to the Jewel-news mailing list: ************************************************* This list is the one with on the average of 2 to 4 emails a day, all with the subject starting with "Jewel News:". To subscribe, send an email to: jewel-news-request@smoe.org and put ONLY the two line command subscribe end in the BODY of the email. What you put in the SUBJECT of the email does not make a difference. To unsubscribe, just send the word unsubscribe above. ********************************************************** Confirming your subscription to a Jewel mailing list: ********************************************************** I deleted this information from THIS post as all of you have already subscribed, and likely know about the confirmation process (you get that code/key from "confirm@smoe.org" that you have to reply to and send back to confirm@smoe.org) Now, a sample Jewel digest from earlier this month (this digest is about HALF of the the normal size): jewel-digest Monday, June 7 1999 Volume 04 : Number 305 * If you ever wish to unsubscribe from this digest, send an email to * jewel-digest-request@smoe.org with ONLY the word * unsubscribe in the BODY of the email * . * For the latest information on Jewel tour dates, go to * the OFFICIAL Jewel web site at http://www.jeweljk.com * and click on "Presence" * OR * go to the Atlantic Records site at http://www.atlantic-records.com * and go to the "On Tour" section * . * PLEASE :) when you reply to this digest to send a post TO the list, * change the subject to reflect what your post is about. Hi all Well I just bought what is said to be the German YWMFM single. It has YWMFM, Cold Song, and Rocker Girl. I just wanted to say that I can't get enough of those last 2 songs. The ending of Cold Song is confusing me though. It sounds like she says, "Do you wanna do me out" but I'm not sure. If it is then there is a side of Jewel I've never heard before! I personally think Jewel was very sweet and honest in answering Sarah her questions on TV. Well, after a short absence from the EDA's mailing list I've decided I couldn't live without the daily frustration of trying to keep all those emails strait. :) But what I've missed most are the truely amazing members of this list. What was I thinking? Also, for those who may be in the NYC area, my friend Jerra Tauber is starting a gig a the Living Room at 84 Stanton St. NYC. She is a truely amazing singer/songwriter and definitely worth the effort. Take a look at my website featuring Jerra at the address below.
