It airs at 6:00pm eastern time, please check your listings for other timezones. (please note that during the whole day, Comedy Central shows OTHER episodes of Ssaturday Night Live, and this is the only *scheduled* airing of this particular episode this Friday.....it's episode # 991). For those that may not know, Comedy Central is a cable network in the USA. It was an episode hosted by John Goodman in early May 1997, and she sang Who Will Save Your Soul which featured a sax solo by Joshua Redman (which was very "list controversial....what a surprise) and You Were Meant For Me. I am not sure if the repeat this Friday will have both musical numbers (I doubt it very much), as the airing is only an hour and the original episode was 90 minutes long (as are all Saturday Night Live shows). I should say I opended for Bob Dylan. It is one of those things where you say, 'I can die now, I opened for Bob Dylan.' When did I tour with him '96, 97? Alan, do you know when I first opened for him? (MrBB answers from back of room exact date of show). So anyway, one day he comes up and asks me if I ever heard of the Blue Yodeler. I said 'He sounds like a super hero'. He said, 'He is. I'll have to send you some of his CD's.' (I think he is an English singer). So a couple weeks after the tour a package shows up at my house from Bob Dylan himself. I never thought I was going to receive them. "About a year later, I opened for Dylan again. He came up to me and said, 'So uh, Jewel, did you ever get those CD's I sent to you? ' I said, 'Yea.' He said, 'Well uh, I never heard back from you?' I was totally embarassed. I said, 'How was I supposed to get in touch with you? You're Bob Dylan. It is not as though your number is listed.' He said, 'Well if you ever need to reach me, you can always go through my secretary.' So that is good to know. I can always get in touch with Bob Dylan through his secretary. "One night after my set he came up to me and said, 'So uh, Jewel, why didn't you play WWSYS tonight?' I said, 'Well, actually I did.' He said, 'Then you must have played it in a different key.' And he was right, I played the whole thing in a lower key. You see the Bobness always knows. So this is for Bob Dylan." She then goes into an amazing scat version of WWSYS. Of course, the story was much funnier when she said it. I mean, anything relevant of airing? Just curious because no one seems to be commenting on anything SHE said. I mean, her answers to questions, and some questions that were asked. Is this all top secret or something? Or would it be some copyright infringement to tell this before it airs? Just curious...seems very strange to me. I've been around for awhile...not so much lately, but I'm sure some of you may remember me. I loved the list, and still do, I guess it's just too much for me to handle right now. I'm very busy and I find myself deleting all of the messages, without even reading them. I feel as though we've lost some of that closeness we used to have. We argue a lot, and That's just not cool. But I have enjoyed so much of this list, I'm not trying to make anyone mad by what I'm saying. And I want to make it clear that I'm not leaving because of differing opinions, but because it's too much e-mail for me. I'm going to strictly news, but fear not I still love Jewel. Her changing image doesn't bother me, because she's a woman, she's grown up, and she wants to ROCK! And for all of you in the Jewel's Other Angels Fan Club, don't worry! I'm still taking care of that. Come by the site soon, we're getting tremendously updated. What happened? Figured the higher ups like Mike or Mr BB would know the answer to this one. Now that Spirit is out and all, does Jewel still have any plans to use any of the band material from Jewelstock on an album? If not, will the 4th Jewelstock(plugged) tape ever be released to the list? If not, why not? A lot of EDAs have the 3 tape Jewelstock set and I'm sure a lot of them don't even know that those tapes are not complete shows, they are only the solo acoustic songs from both nights. On both nights, for those who don't know, Jewel also played a short 5 or 6 six song set with band. These songs were never released to the EDAs because Jewel and her management said they might be used on an album at some point. At one time it was rumored that the tape would be distributed as Jewelstock Tape 4 but that has never happened. Obviously however there are some people on this list who have copies of that tape. So, what's the story there? For those of us who want to know. I also found the new 2 CD version of Spirit in my local Music Box record shop, HMV are still saying that it won't be released until the 21st. Chris. Hey Matt, Coming from up North, you're going to either want I95 South or I495 South, depending on which is easier for you to get to. (95 can be a REAL bitch if you're coming through in the morning (7 a.m. to 10 a.m.) or the afternoon (3:30 pm to 6 or 7 p.m.). If you won't be heading through at those times, 95 is probably more direct. 495 runs more to the west, which probably makes for a longer drive, but it also isn't as congested. (95 is about 5 - 10 miles outside of Boston, so the commuter traffic is rough...) I'd recommend taking a look at http://www.tweetercenter.com for more information and directions. > And if anyone knows the layout of the area I'm in Sec 1 row M. > Is section 1 far to the side or is it center? Section 1 is not Center-stage. If you're standing on the stage, looking out at the crowd, Section 1 is to the left of center stage. Row M sounds like pretty decent seating, though, you should have a pretty close seat. Most of the front sections will give you a good view. > After 2 years on this list this is only my 2nd Jewel show. I > did manage to meet Dennis Harris and a few other list vets at > Harborlights. Is there gonna be a get-together here also? Last time I spoke with Dennis, he had mentioned wanting to do something before or after, not sure on the details, but I'm sure there'll be plenty of EDAs there. Jury's still out on whether or not I'm going to make it, but I'd like to. > One last thing. I'm also going to see Roger Waters at the > Tweeter Center Aug 4. I have lawn seats for that show. I > imagine they let you bring in lawn chairs and maybe binoculars > but I wanna make sure. So if you've been there I'd appreciate > any info. I'm not sure if they allow you to bring in lawn chairs or not... I know I've seen blankets & towels, but I don't think I've ever seen lawn chairs. If it's been raining a lot right before the concert, your best bet is to sit on the wooden benches way at the back, unless you want to get covered with mud, and soaked. And, for you, and anybody else who's going, if there's even the SLIGHTEST hint of a possibility that it may think about raining at some point during the concert, BRING A JACKET, and a change of clothes (leave these in the car), if you've got lawn seats. I cannot overemphasize this. The last three concerts I went to at Great Woods, I spent most of the time trying to huddle under a corner of one of the beer tents with my friends and about 90000000000 other people, because it began to rain, and it was REALLY cold rain. Yeah, I may sound like your mother... but based on my experiences, it will rain at Great Woods, regardless of how wonderful you expect the weather to be. Being cold & wet is not a fun way to drive the hour and a half (or more) home... Again, I'd recommend checking out their web page for more information and directions...
