I was really looking forward to seeing it, so I was wondering if there is an EDA out there that taped it and would be so kind to make me a copy of this performance. I will pay S&H and for the tape as well - unless you would like to trade for something. Just reply to me at Spirit828@aol.com if you can help me out. RIGHT?!?!). on a side note, i know we go through this every time jewel appears on TV, but this is a DISCUSSION LIST! people have the right to their own opinions and shouldn't be criticized for expressing them. later, jennie ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 Jun 1999 15:16:10 -0700 From: Diana Ruiz Subject: * NJC: EDA cover tapes Hey everyone, I was just wondering if there was a way I could get a hold of the EDA cover tapes! SHE IS NOT STANDING IN A SHELL. i wish she would have said bottecelli's venus ..... at least she is in a shell. improper referencing is not exactly going to change those opinion's which maintain jewel is an ignorant bimbo. and i don't like the half-baked part. it reminds me of the ninja turtles. a unavoidable comparison comes to mind with the name jupiter, and that is a song by tori amos, which is an absolute masterpiece--thought provoking, emotive, beautiful images. but anyway, i have made my tolerable peace with most of the rest of the song. and it didn't sound terrible if i didn't watch her, just bland. i thought she looked fine, but i still feel she looks terribly out of place without her guitar to hold on to. >Hey, everyone has low points and high points, even the >greats. Well, When she first came out and started singing, I didn't realize til ten seconds later that she was indeed singing Jupiter. I personally thought she was gonna sing DSL, since it is her new single, but Jupiter was a nice suprise. In case you guys haven't noticed, which I doubt, Jewel is always changing and adding new things to all the songs she performs. They are all creative, and she is experimenting which I think is a good trait of a great musician. =) I thought her performance deserves a hearty applause! I am a fan of Jewel AND her music. Although, I do personally like her recorded version of Jupiter, but I thought the letterman performance was nice too. Please don't bash Jewel and her performane, I really admire her and I aspire to be like her, in spirit. Signing off, The Silent EDA ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 Jun 1999 18:54:31 EDT From: Sean35RL@aol.com Subject: * Re: Ohhh No, We're Never Gonna Make It... Well maybe it's because I didn't get to go to Storytellers that is part of the catalyst behind my "anger" as you call it. I am sure that was a fine performance. But Jewel used to put on quality concerts every night back in say 96. Now she only shows up for private gigs holding 150 people? To achieve any form of true greatness or artistic success one must perform at their best every night. The musicians who do so gain a reputation as being a great concert and then develop a strong fanbase that will stay with the artist or band through whatever period of commercial success or failure said artist endures. I'm talking about Dave Matthews Band, Phish, Tori Amos, Ani DiFranco, Blues Traveler, Pearl Jam, Tom Petty, Joni Mitchell, Bruce Springsteen. Artists who are renowned for being the very best in live performers. They all do 2-3 hours a night, every night and most of them exert a lot more effort and energy than Jewel and most of em have been doing it a long longer. So in my opinion she has no excuse for lackluster live performances, repetitive bland setlists, or crappy TV appearances. Later, Sean Hooks Give me the 50 bucks up front and I might just have to venture up to Bearsville to collect. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 Jun 1999 16:11:13 -0700 From: "TSUNAMI" Subject: * cow-hands manifest thought greetings cowboys and cowgirls (and whatever salutation best fits the llama-inclined among us :) is it just me, or does even the negativism on this list seem more positive these days?! I did, forget that is...) while being physically wiped out, I've been able to still work on things to organize events for a non-profit society, TSUNAMI (http://www.gulfislands.com/TSUNAMI ), that is helping young creative artists be heard and seen; TSUNAMI is partnering with Lilith Fair on a project for this year's tour launch (July 8 in Vancouver) and I'm really excited about that opportunity (I'll let y'all know more very soon); thing is, what's fulfilling me (and others) today is a manifestation of ideas and energy that, along with other sources of inspiration, has come from Jewel, her music and the people on this list who share these interests; it's amazing to witness the positive and beneficial things that have grown from this list! from individual acts of kindness to the EDAF and HGH -- all this and plywood cow-roping, too!!! well, I just want to wish everyone here the best of health, the best of times, and keep following and living your dreams cheers, Adrian the island (and soon-to-be-well-again) EDA ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 12 Jun 1999 00:40:38 +0100 From: "Debbie" Subject: * Jewel on Videotech Hi Jewel was featured on Thursday nights Videotech on ITV, she sang DSL only, there was no interview but the presenter mentioned Jewel's film & her book of poetry. Jewel is very hardworking and always has been, if she doesn't live up to your expectations then just don't be a fan anymore. I'm proud to announce the "Let's Get Sean Hooks to a Happier Place" project! If only ten EDAs will pledge a meager $5 each, we can raise the $50 to send Sean to EDA summer camp (aka, Bearsville) this year! :-) I'll start the ball rolling by pledging the first five dollars (US currency). Not only that, but I will bring him a baseball cap AND spend time with Sean as a "big brother" and try to be a positive influence on him all weekend. And just for him, I'll provide a (small bovine) plywood petting zoo! Of course, we will need someone to swing by Sean's house and pick him up (or at least put him on a Bearsville-bound bus). This is not a joke, but a quest. I fully suspect the following folks will want to throw in $5 each, too: Tammy/Rob Campbell, Amy Neufeld and Tom Proven :-) That only leaves us $30 short. Please email me if you'd like to contribute to the development of an intelligent, lovable (yet angry) EDA who desperately needs a weekend in the country! And while y'all are at it, I'd like to see EVERYONE show up at Bearsville to express your heartfelt support for Sean!
