Anyway, yesterday VH-1 did a new BTWRS and Jewel was in it. It was a couple minutes of tape from a (at the time) talent scout(back in '92). It has Jewel and Nedra singing "Rudolph", Jewel doing an ad for some juice stuff she drank, and Jewel playing a song(never heard it on the Innerchange tapes) for a couple seconds. I thought it was funny and cute to see Jewel before she got popular. I missed the "This Morning" on CBS w/ Jewel. Can a So. Cal EDA help me out? See Ya'll in Oceanside! It's done. It's complete right up to last night. And you need not wait til tommorrow as I previously posted. :-) Yes, EVERY 1999 Jewel Tour setlist is now up on her website at www.jeweljk.com. Just go to the calendar & the setlists link is below the calendar screen. Every 1999 World Tour show (plus a few significant others, like last night) is listed. I've included every Steve Poltz setlist, as well. All the best, MrBB ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 10 Jun 1999 20:46:58 EDT From: Sabato229@aol.com Subject: * Jewel in magazines I was reading my Glamour June '99 issue and there's a couple Jewel things I'll type out for you don't read this *girlie* magazine First there is a little pic of her from her movie w/ Tobey Maquire it looks like there talking sitting on a front porch and it says the movie will be out in October. And a little section about Jewel in one of 7 of summer's top female-friendly concerts it says --- *type of music feel-good-chicken-soup-for-the-soul folk plus some yodeling *scene at a glance- Cheering young girls, all but oblivious to the hordes of guys who drool for Jewel *who to bring-- your old college roommate, the one who knows all your secrets and still hasn't spilled them. *what to wear-- your ice blue t-shirt, cargo skirt and mukluks (?) *groupies-- guys who claim they bought Jewel's poetry book but really just like to ogle her while she sings. Now I don't agree w/ all that -- just put it out there for all to read. And she's in a special Teen People issue out w/ stars in high school year books and there was a couple b&w pics of Jewel. For those of you who dont know Eric planned an eda gathering Wednesday at noon.I think there was about 12 of us.We went to a store and looked for cd's.Then grabbed a subway up to the Warner Brothers store to see a 3d movie.Of course I was surprised we made it that far, thanks to Eric's mad dashes across the streets!hehehe j/k Eric. Then after that movie we went to eat underneath the GM building(name?). Well after all this we make it up to the studio and wait in the room...I think someone already covered the rest of the wait so I won't repeat it!I'll have to add though, when the roping was going on I got a picture of Shawn TRYING to rope Woody...I dont think he got it :-) hehehehe Well as for the show, this was the first time I saw her this close(I saw her on TRL last april from Times Square).I think I almost died when she walked past me down to the center(I was in the 3rd row!!!).I am sorry but I hear people say she is not as she used to be and doesn't care about the audience and not down to earth...she is totally nice and cool and down to earth!!I felt bad that she was sick though but I give her much credit....if I were that sick I would never be able to go anywhere!! The only thing that bad happened to me was that I was so excited that my mind blanked and I couldnt think of a question to ask her!!After the Q&A session I thought of thousands!!!So sad!! I did get her autograph and I am going to make an album so that'll be awesome I have to add that after the show like 5 of us walked backstage and ran into Steve Poltz and talked to him for a while. He was really nice and we goto take pictures and get his autograph! Well i think everyone else filled in the rest of the more detailed stuff. It was a great experience and I met many awesome people...I dont want to name people cause I will feel bad if I forget someone!Hope to see you all someday!! Take care Iris ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 10 Jun 1999 21:47:32 EDT From: Sabato229@aol.com Subject: * SIBTW Sometimes it be that way is so far my fave 'unreleased ' song I have heard a couple diffrent versions a faster uptempo version (like on VH1 Hard Rock Live) and a slower version from a concert in Stockholm 10/24/97. I was wondering which all of you liked better while I was listening to the song and got an idea wouldn't it be awesome if they did a Jewel stamp-- maybe to benefit HGH ? by the way my fave version is the faster one. THAT DAMN PLYWOOD COW GOT AN AUTOGRAPH AND I GOT JACK SQUAT! ok, that out of my system, i can move on. thanks to everyone for a great time, hope to see you all at Bearsville this summer! except that cow, of course... always crazy, chris :) ----- "life love heaven death, is that what makes you such a mess?" - LtC ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 10 Jun 1999 23:49:39 EDT From: Sean35RL@aol.com Subject: * Mr BB's depressing news Slightly tongue in cheek but nonetheless not the best news in the world from Mr. BB in his latest post. So Jupiter is the next single. Great. It's not a horrible song but it's lyrics are pretty weak(nowhere near as atrocious as hands but pretty weak and simplistic nonetheless) and repetitive despite being one of the album's most adventuresome tracks musically. So it wouldn't have been so bad. But wait that musical strength is being replaced by "a more hip-hop type rhythm than the album version & a very aggressive guitar sound in parts" to quote Mr. BB directly. Great. Just what we need. Hip-hop, and aggressive guitar. Can we stray any farther from legitimate music and Jewel's folk roots? And then he goes on to tell us that the film soundtrack will contain "What's Simple is True." And as I've always said, this song sure is simple alright, and the truth is it sounds like it was written by a 6th grader with a crush on one of the Backstreet Boys. I mean lyrically it's just plain awful. That said however, I am looking forward to Ride With the Devil and seeing that it is directed by Ang Lee it will almost surely be a film of the highest quality. Ang directed 1997's The Ice Storm, a fabulous motion picture, the best of the year in my opinion, and I have the utmost confidence in him as a filmmaker. Jewel's choices may be weak in other areas but she sure picked a hell of a director to work with. The cast for that film is excellent as well, I'm sure she learned a lot about acting. And white girl can't dance either. Strap the guitar back on please. In some ways that is even worse than Hands, and believe me I thought Hands was the bottom of the barrel. Now I understand why some critics have such negative opinions of Jewel. If that was the first time I'd have ever seen her on TV I would have said, "Another talentless chick who's on TV cause she has nice cleavage." Wow that was bad. I like the new Jupiter. I like em both! Not too diffrent but I think it'll be a HUGE hit either way! That was my personal fave the 1st time on heard it- the day spirit came out. I hope when she releases it on single or import single it'll have some b-sides or something. oh well- i'm tired I hope you all enjoy. I thought the new version was great. She looked fabulous in her all black ensemble. It was really funny when she had finished singing and Dave asked her if she remembered when she said he looked like a donkey and she started laughing. I thought the overall performance was great. What do you all think? I didn't even know she was going to be on. I thought she was going to be on later in June or July to sing Down So Long. Anyway, she sang Jupiter and except for the "ooohs" and "ooos" that she added in some places it was pretty good! Her hair looked better without that pink thing in it but her outfits lately haven't been so flattering. But still, she sounded great! What does everyone else think? I didn't see Jewel on Letterman, because I didn't know she was on it (stupid me). Too bad I missed it. But obviously you are not a Jewel fan, Sean, because you only seem to find the deep songs good, and the simple ones horrible. Maybe you are a fan of lyrics, and not of Jewel? It's my place to criticize Jewel! I also saw her performance, and i have very different views on it. First of all, a couple of people (and i have noticed this over time) on this list are very afraid/hate change. Variety is the spice of life. I liked the song, it's so un-whiney, what jewel usually sounds like (and i like that side of her singing very much; but i do enjoy hearing her change sounds around). Oh well, i'll go tell all this to my pillow, goodnight. lee In a message dated 6/10/99 8:42:10 PM, Sean35RL@aol.com wrote: ><while she was rummaging through Madonna's old wardrobe.
