Today's Subjects: ----------------- * VH1 Storytellers Taping Commentary ["Jason Keis - DRulz" Subject: * VH1 Storytellers Taping Commentary Hey fellow EDAs, Well, I just got back from the VH1 Storytellers taping, and I must tell you all that this was really something. Not only was it the first time I attended a taping for a television show, it was also my first time watching Jewel perform live. Hell, I thought she had a beautiful voice on record... hearing her sing in person is something else. To everyone on this list, you all have great taste. For those who know me, they seldom joke around about me liking Jewel because well, I hang out with a strict "metal" crowed, and obviously Jewel doesn't fit this label/genre. But you know what? I really couldn't care less. I am really into all sorts of various types of music. I grew up listening to the classic rock/hippie stuff my parents listened to, and I recall very well the very first CD I ever bought. I was in second grade and I was so thrilled to have bought the Beatles' "Help" album. The very first concert I've attended was that of the Monkees (LOL) at Great Adventure, oh, back in 1984? Since then I've the Moody Blues, 3 Dog Night, Chicago, Billy Joel, Jethro Tull, ELP, Donovan, etc.. There are just too many to list. One group I will regret not being able to see because I was just born too late would have to be Simon and Garfunkel. I was only two when they performed their last concert together in Central Park. Oh well By the time I hit high school, I met a whole bunch of people who were into harder, heavier stuff. I wasn't too into it at the time, but I figured since I'm pretty open minded (to most things, but not all) I'll give it a shot. Hell, it's just an extension of bands that I have held close to my heart, such as Black Sabbath (saw them recently!) and Deep Purple (saw them last year at the ELP/Dream Theater concert). So, my first "metal" album was Metallica's "...And Justice for All." From then on, my life wouldn't be the same. Aside from all of this gibberish that I'm beginning to realize I'm typing, I would just like to say that my point is that music plays a huge role in my life. Ever since I was 7 I wanted to be the next John Lennon. I really loved his music and his contribution to music. I took up guitar at age 8 but ditched it for the drums. I'm also in a band that I've formed with two of the greatest people whom I ever met (the band's name is Skrypture, and the web site www.skrypture.com is coming soon). Anyway, without my love for music I wouldn't really know what to do with myself. Of course I could continue pursuing a potential career in telecommunications and networking, but that's boring. I have a love for art. I want to create. If you call connecting computers a creation, fine - but it's a science, not an art. I can't even begin to explain what went through my head (and my heart? I guess...) when I first heard Jewel on MTV. It was her "Soul" video. I guess you can say I've been a fan ever since (although I purchased her album pretty late). But now I've gotten to see her (with 75-150 of you people of course) tonight and I'm really glad that I had the opportunity to do so. She has the most beautiful voice I have ever heard. I must admit I haven't been the most active one on this list and this is something I would like to change (for the summer at least, before I go back to school). It was cool meeting some of you at the taping. For those who went, I was one of two people I believe who wore all black (aside from Pete, the Rock and Roll Angel). I had my hair in a ponytail, and hmm.. uhhh.. I don't know what else I could say to identify myself better for those who attended. If you have a great love for music, feel free to drop me an email as I wouldn't mind any correspondence whatsoever. I guess right now would be a good time to get to know more people on this list. Ok, back to Jewel. I've mentioned to a couple of people today that I've sent Jewel two letters (so far). I wasn't really expecting a reply because of what I have heard from many people that she's extremely difficult to correspond with. I understand that she has her career and is extremely popular, and would be bogged down if she kept in touch with every single person who mailed her a letter. I guess I just feel a little down because of the time I put into it and how deeply involved it was. I don't normally mail musicians, but for some reason I had the urge to send her a letter to see what happens. Oh well, if there's anyone on this list who would be able to relay a message to her, I guess my three page letters could be narrowed down to just this... Jewel, thank you for your music. Take care everyone.
