Is anyone going to the show at Blossom Music Center in Cleveland on August 10th. I tried to get tickets, but ticketmaster said they don't know anything about the show. Is there some other way to get tickets? If anyone knows, please let me know because I've never seen Jewel live and I don't want to miss this chance. Thanks so much. (and thanks Jason) and especially good to see the "EDAs and friends" section -- what a fun time!!!, that was an amazing weekend in Hollywood -- I can't wait for the next "red carpet" trip; I'm wondering if any one in SoCal (or anywhere) knows how someone in Canada can contact HGH?! there's a toll free number (1-877-295-3935) listed in the brochure they gave us at Jewel's concert, but it doesn't work from up here; and there's no mailing address listed... cheers, Adrian (FWIW, I now have two email addies, the howenow one that some of you already know, and this TSUNAMI one that's now showing up -- it's part of the non-profit youth and arts society that I'm working to build -- we have a web-site @ http://www.gulfislands.com/TSUNAMI ) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 26 May 1999 03:26:14 EDT From: BDSolace@aol.com Subject: * Everyday Angel Tribute To End School Violence... Please Read... Hi.... my name is pete and i have been a huge fan of Jewel for a long time... not only has her music inspired me as a composer and lyricist but as a person as well.... she has built my spirit to that of a, and i know this sounds cheesy, an everyday angel... anyway to my point..... i have been working on with my whole body and soul a song dedicated to the late memory of Rachel Scott one of the 13 tragic deaths from the Colombine incident... I in no way meant to single out any particular student since that is not right but the fact was that one day as i sat watching t.v. i came across her service and found myself crying more than i have at services for those of people i have known who have died.... i felt a spiritual connection... so from that came a song... the song is called "April Rain (Rachel's Song)"... from that song spawned an idea... the amount of good i felt when i recieved emails in response to an email i myself had sent to friends of Rachel regarding the song made me feel as though so much more could be done.... and here is my idea.... it is rough and needs help and ideas.... i look to the EDAs because it is a group i have been a part of silently for many years and have watched the way they can stand together for others in need.... so i have been thinking of putting together a CD of original songs written by Everyday Angels inspired by the current overwhelming tragic violence in our schools... this CD would be sold and the profit given to a charity that we feel most in tune with our cause... i also understand that not all of us are musically inclined.... so i would think that the booklet could contain artwork and poetry done by Everyday Angels.... the CD can also contain spoken word poetry... this is all just an idea but i would love to see something come out of this... if any of you have any further ideas or are interested in climbing aboard please email me at my other account..... Pariah20@aol.com i would say to email me here but we all know how many emails EDAs can recieve sometimes and would hate to have responses get lost in the bundle...... i thank you for your time.... and any ideas or help is greatly appreciated..... thanks pete ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 26 May 1999 08:00:46 +0200 From: "Tom Hall" Subject: * I Finally Saw Jewel!!! (PinkPop review) Well I made my little road journey to a little place in the Netherlands called PinkPop yesterday - little did I know that once the car got there we had another hour's walk to get to the festival! Oh well, I don't know who Ilse DeLange is so I didn't miss anything - her last song was nice though =) I only really went there to see Jewel and Lauryn Hill, and they both really kicked ass. If anyone wants to hear my story about the whole festival, then mail me and I'll tell you more, but here I'll just tell everyone about Jewel! Dumb old me thought that Jewel wasn't so popular in Holland, so I left the front of Robbie Williams' show at about half-past and to my shock there was already a big crowd! I managed to puch my way quite close to the front at the left-hand side (sorry to anyone who was there - I was desperate to see Jewel!!!) and as they all came out, I was right in front of Steve, which kicked ass! She came out in a pair of sunglasses, a black top and leather pants, which seemed to be the uniform for today when Lauryn Hill came out in a similar outfit! Anyway, the setlist was: Deep Water What's Simple Is True Hands Jupiter (rock version) You Were Meant For Me Foolish Games Life Uncommon Down So Long Down Love Me Just Leave Me Alone Who Will Save Your Soul Chime Bells I think that's all but I'll check again later. Every song on the setlist was one of my favorites, so I was really happy to see her play them all, although if she played Kiss Your Ass and Satellite that would've made my day =) Jewel's stage presence was just unbelievable. She was so beautiful and sexy and she seemed to confident and like she was actually having fun! Deep Water kicked it off, and it was as nice as I'd hoped the first live Jewel song I heard would be! I was listening so closely and singing so loud that a couple of people in front of me let me nearer to the front (now 2nd row!) saying that I was obviously a very big fan, which I was happy at cuz they were tall =) I really could not believe I was seeing Jewel finally! The old-skool fans will be pleased to know that she sang all of the original lyrics! At the start of What's Simple Is True, I decided to shout "STEVE!" at the nearby Poltzy, and sure enough he looks at me and kinda acknowledges me, so I go "You the man!" and he laughs at me. Jewel kind of looked, and laughed, before turning around to Doug (the other guitarist) and saying "steve", so he must've asked who I was shouting at! Yay the band saw me! Hehe... Whats Simple Is True was sweet, but not that much different from the album version. Apparently this is gonna be her next single, and it could be a hit as it's really nice. Then came Hands, which was another "not much of a change" thing, except for the "we are reflections of god" lyric change at the end. Again, I loved this so much, and it was great to just be watching her sing! Jupiter absolutely kicked some serious ass! The rock version is a big, big improvement on the album version and it really started getting the crown going. I really enjoyed this part! You Were Meant For Me was what made me like Jewel in the first place, and as I was listening I could remember the first time I heard it, when I was on holiday in Florida. This has been my favorite Jewel song for ages, and I was really singing my heart out on this one! Foolish Games was your usual Jewel and keyboardist (with drummer) version, with the other half having a little sit down. It was really touching to hear the whole crowd singing along during the chorus and see how happy Jewel was at this =) Life Uncommon is my 2nd favorite Jewel song after YWMFM, and it was another crowd-pleaser I think, as a lot of people around me were groovin and stuff, which was funny to see! Down So Long I think was the same kind of version she did on Leno was it? Anyway, it was great, so how could you not like it? Yeah she does a bit of orgasmic screaming and a bit of just plain screaming, but she keeps it in tune with the music and it fits in perfectly with what Jewel and her band are all about - it kicks some ass! Down! I loved this! The crowd were really getting into it at this point, clapping along and enjoying themselves. The people around me were giving me looks because I knew all the words (I beat the woman behind me! yes! I knew more words!!!) In the middle it kinda goes slow, but then picks up with a guitar solo and a drum solo, and it's really good! I wasn't expecting her to do this and it was a real pleasant surprise. I was thinking "do Love Me Just Leave Me Alone please!" once she'd finished Down, and sure enough she did! It had a new intro, but again I knew the words to it all, and got a few stares! It's a really good rock song to get the crowd going, and it did, We were all clapping in unison and it was a really good atmosphere! Someone who looked similar to Steve Poltz (maybe his brother) came on and played the mouth organ really well! Next came the reggae/rock/blues version of Who Will Save Your Soul which was so good and came with surprises, no matter what I'd heard about it already! This was the best moment of the show, and I loved it so much! Jewel did her little "when the kitty gets hungry it goes miaow miaow miaow" thing, and Steve did his little jumpy thing at the end, as well as Jewel's little competition with Tony Hall (the bassist with the same name as my dad!). This version ruled and it has to be re-released! The last song, much to my delight, was Chime Bells! I'd wanted to hear Jewel yodel for so long and finally this was it! This version was a little shorter than what I'd heard before - only one verse before the speeding-up yodels - but it was a really nice end to the concert, which I wish had gone on for a couple more hours. So, my message to you all is to go and see Jewel live, no matte the cost! She is the best ever and it was a pleasure to see her and a pleasure to hear her and the band play together and to hear her sing so beautifully. Jewel is the best! I hope that was OK =) TOM tom.hall@megabit.net "When the kitty gets hungry it goes miaow miaow miaow, When the kitty gets thirsty it goes miaow miaow miaow, When the kitty wants some milk it goes miaow miaow miaow." I just finished going over my mail, and the last email was something about "spirit". the guy, who's name I don't remember (sorry!) said that Spirit was more mature than poy. Well, I've given that some thought. When I first got Spirit I was, well, shocked. It wasn't the Jewel *I* knew. But I though, what the hell, give it a chance. But I have to be honest- the more I listened to it, the less I liked it. There are good songs, but even then... I'm looking for something else I guess. Anyway, my point was... I think in a way Poy was more honest, and more naive for that matter, and maybe that's what maturing in our world is about, understanding that if we expose our souls- they will eventually be hurt, and that we need to open to others less- to maintain our innocence, so to speak. And I'm wondering if that's what Jewel is going through, and if that is what people mean when they say Spirit is more mature. this is what me and my twisted mind came up with, but I'm open for a different explanation. === "If music be the food of love-play on!" ~~ABBY~~ The Rare angel * * {\o/} * * * /_\ * "What you feel is what you are and what you are is beautiful" (GooGoo Dolls- "Slide") _________________________________________________________ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 26 May 1999 13:20:10 +0200 (MET DST) From: Alex Oudshoorn Subject: Re: * Maturity of spirit. hi, On Wed, 26 May 1999, Abigail Greif wrote: > Hi angels :) > I'll keep this short. > I just finished going over my mail, and the last email > was something about "spirit". the guy, who's name I > don't remember (sorry!) said that Spirit was more > mature than poy. It'll probably be an interview or something, or maybe even live performance?!. Did anyone catch her on the 'Ozone' last night? Unfortunately I missed it, so if anyone taped it please contact me as I have some great stuff to trade. EDAs, Well, to be honest, lately I haven't been listening to either POY or Spirit. My angelfood has spent more time in the player than anything else.... I like spirit, and it does get played here in my hacienda. my only problem with spirit is that I've heard some of the songs in their live form. They are powerful and overwhelming live. Take Enter from the east for example.. the first time I heard it, I was blown away. don't get me wrong, the version on the album is good, but it seems to lack some of the power of the other versions I've heard. I would recommend searching the web to find a RA of Enter from the east, but with the release of Spirit, it is hard to find the non-album version on the net.. Anyway, just thought I would throw my two cents in again. (this debate has raged on since Oct, when hands first got airplay) In that time I've given about a buck and 36cents; two cents at a time... take care of each other, rowdy "The ditch digging, pole climbing angel" ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 26 May 1999 10:39:43 EDT From: JimboUK999@aol.com Subject: * NJC: Beth Orton Hi, The e-mail from the person asking who likes Tori Amos and Sarah Maclachlan as well as Jewel got me thinking that if most EDA's like them as well they must like Beth Orton too. I know shes not very big in the US (and in the UK for that matter) but if anyone is loaded or feels like splashing out on a new CD, her latest "Central Reservation" and debut "Trailer Park" are really worth getting. I love them both. I would also appriciate also anyone to e-mail me that likes Beth Orton, and especially if anyone goes out and buys it as a result of this post.
