It's not just the amount of appearances like this Shawn and Jewel must have to do, but also the way in which I notice British shows tend to think that if the USA artist isn't REM or Madonna, etc... they really don't see the artist as being that important, and (IMHO) the artists can sense that.... Perhaps the British way of presenting and their humour is dificult for American performers to cope with? When I saw Jewel on the Big Breakfast in UK, she seemed really reserved and unsure of herself around the presenters. Compared to US talk/Variety shows the British equivelants are far less ordered and contrived. I'm sure they do think they are important to some degree. But I doubt that American presenters would think much of, say UK acts such as Blur, Pulp or the Chemical Brothers. Simply because they don't sell much in the US.
