I heard from Lee Greene, the very nice road asstitance manager that Jewel was doing a TV -show in Holland. So me and a fan from Haarlem, Lotti (the girl that was invited by Steve Poltz on her birthday to the stage in the Hochschule der kunste in berlin!!!!) decided to go to the studios. We arrived at 11.30 am early in the morning. We were enjoying the lovely weather that day in Amsterdam. It was sunny, and already early we saw the bass player Tony Hall. We decided to have a chat with him, and he told us about the impressive tourschedule they have. Do a promotional show here (holland), been in Stockholm the day before .....have an hour sleep (you all can imagine how tired both the band and Jewel has to be at some times)....at one o'clock we saw walking to the studios Watertoren studio in Amsterdam, Jewel and her roadasstitance manager lee greene. lotti, and myself saw them walking inside. We became thirsty and we got inside the Caferestaurant Amsterdam and had a drink. We saw the whole J-team sitting inside the cafe-restaurant, have chats with eachother , laugh and there were some representatives from Warner Music with them.... Very suddenly we saw Brady Blade coming to the Bar......he recognized me and lotti from the concerts that we already seen ( london, cambridge, hamburg and berlin)...and he wished Lotti a happy birthday again....we told him that we love the music, and especially the new version of Jupiter - the really rockin' version...he was laughing and told us that this might be recorded soon in the studios....(later Jewel confirmed this to us!!!!! )......me and lotti had another drink... Tony revealed to us in the morning too that another tour to Europe is considered in October to the cities where they haven't been this time!!! So we might get lucky in holland in that time of the year......be patienced we shall know after the summer more about this.... we decided to ask the broadcaster if we could attend the ' Laat de Leeuw' show and they told us today is your lucky day.....so our names were written in a logbook and we could pick up our tickets at 3 o'clock. So you all can imagine how happy feeling this was for me and Lotti...especially because Jewel was to be the quest in this holland TV-show.....this is the only show were Jewel has been to in Holland in her life before...(that was in 1997 when she sang You were meant for me at the end of the programme)... The clock was ticking and the recording of the programme was going to be nearer and nearer....Lotti and i got a seat at the tribune on the first row just in front where Jewel was going to sing her song Down so long....Jewel was so sweet, she was wearing a green dress and a wonderful colourful top... She was very charming and was really singing wonderful......we applauded the loudest at this show and Steve Poltz recognized us in the audience when he was playing his guitar...he was really looking to us : Wow you are here too!!!!! Jewel was chatting with the presenter and she even give him a kick when he was making fun of her...he told Jewel that she was trying to make a better world and she told Everyone should have candybars and than this world should be a better place (Alan Bershaw : What a wonderful comment of Jewel isn' it !!!).. Soon there after she talked some about the pinkpop festival and that she will be there too....The presenter of the show compared Brady Blade the drum player with Harry Belafonte (aint' that crazy ????) and he said about Steve are you a son of Jack Nickolson ??????? *LOL*.... When leaving the stage Jewel and Steve made this rabbit sign when walking aside the presenter......it was so much fun this afternoon in the studio...Jewel really had a great time on this show...the questions weren't of high quality but Jewel was really cheery this afternoon... And when i talked about the whole day already very positive the best has still to come !!!! After the song at the TVshow Steve give us a signal : wait for me in the studio...so we did and he walked to us and wished Lotti again a happy birthday ...he asked us we were from...we told from Haarlem a little city near Amsterdam and he was thinking that we were germans (*LOL*)....and he said : i was really thinking how bizarre that i saw you both again this afternoon..so we explained to Steve that we live in Holland and that we are huge fans of them and Jewel and that we really love travelling to the cities in Europe to see them sing and perform...he told us he liked amsterdam, he visited the town with brady blade and doug pettibone earlier the day.....and that he could have bring us with him to stockholm if we had time...... he told us about Jewel....that she is still an artist that loves to be on the sidelines....not paying to much attention to the fans...she has always been this kind of woman and it's hard to change that ....but in the end only kindness matters for me and lotti and at six o'clock that day we were invited to come to the whole crew and we could have our first conversation with Jewel in our lives (lotti and myself)...we told Jewel how beautiful here concerts have been, and she loved that to hear from us....we thanked her for her lovely new song at the Berlin concert (no more sad songs a love song written for her daddy Atz).....she told us that she was looking forward to the 'Pinkpoppy thing'....and we told her how much we appreciate the lyrics of her songs...she told us that she wasn't in a good mood at the hamburg concert ...that was why she played so many song in the solo part of that show (what was giving to the audience wonderful songs like don't ......and the other song alan already mentioned....and kiss the flame)......we spoke again about the wonderful new version of jupiter that they have been rehearsing at hamburg for almost 1 1/2 hour....Jewel was proud on this new version and she told me and lotti that they will try to record this song....i asked Jewel if the song what simple is true was going to be her song of the movie A ride with the devil and she told us that this will be the song for the movie....We were so happy to have a chat with Jewel that we again thanked Jewel for the conversation and we were in heaven after this meeting...jewel was wearing sunglassed and trousers and she was a wonderful artist .....this memory will last forever for both me and lotti.....as you all can imagine.......now can i enjoy still five concerts of jewel .....and than i have to take a break from the spirit world tour...we even forgot to wish Jewel the happiest birthday on sunday when she will be 25 years old.....maybe next time !!! I hope you enjoyed this saga about meeting Jewel in sunny Amsterdam.... Hi EDAs-- Today during History we had an essembly and the Standford Jazz Workshop came to perform for us, and suddenly this guy in a black long coat and slacks with a white shirt underneath comes in and picks up his trombone and starts playing. I just sat there and gawk at him, because he looks almost EXACTLY like Mr. Steve Poltz. The whole time I was just staring at him and mumbling to myself (since none of my friends know who Poltzie is...) "Oh my God, if I didn't know any better, I would SWEAR that's Steve Poltz!" Nevertheless, it wasn't. In actuality his name is Marty something and teaches(?) trombone at Stanford University here in California. Afterward I talked to him for a while and his voice kind of sounded like Steve's, too! I think he might have thought I had a crush on him or something because I kept on discussing the trombone and stuff with him (since I play too, and I just kept on trying to re-confirm with myself that Steve's out of the country right now and there's no way he could be him.. :P) and I kept on asking him more and more questions just so I could keep on reminding myself he wasn't Poltz. After about seven minutes of "interrogation" my friends dragged me away off to lunch. Yes, a practically useless post, but I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced a situation similar to this. The plan is pretty much the same as usual for our gatherings, but just for those of you who've never attended one of our gatherings, here is the info :-) I'm expecting the majority of the attendees to show up anywhere from late Friday afternoon to anytime during the evening and night. We stay up most (or all) of the night and then try to get our butts in gear in the morning and get ourselves off to Six Flags Great Adventure :-) Once we tire of GA, it's back to our house for more socializing, maybe dinner, and another late night :-) Finally, Dennis'll let people get to sleep ;-) then, if people are interested, perhaps I'll see about another paintball trip on Sunday. There is a new paintball place much closer to us now that I'll check into instead of going all the way back to Jackson :-) and of course I'll force Dennis to bring back the plywood cow and lariat for more of that addictive plywood cow roping :-) As far as GA tix go, I'm looking into getting reduced price tix and will let everyone know what comes of that ASAP :-) If you have any questions or are interested in attending, please contact me at Tlcathome@aol.com with Great EDAdventure II in the subject :-) Lovies to all and hope to see you there :-) Tammy :-) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 20 May 1999 00:24:24 +1200 From: "Kim Lees" Subject: * story behind "He's A Rhythm Man" / "V-12 Cadillac" Hey, I've just uploaded an RA with the full story behind "He's A Rhythm Man" from Rick Dees at the weekend... if you haven't heard the song sample yet, it's really funky - kinda like "Under The Water" from "The Craft" soundtrack... here's where you can hear the story as well as the song clip - just go to "sounds" and look under "miscellaneous": http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Stadium/7485/jewel.html here's the basic gist of the story anyway: apparently when she was living out of her van there was this guy Denny Aaberg who was also a songwriter and he used to park next to her so they'd play each other songs they had written... so anyway, he had this song "He's A Rhythm Man" he had co-written and needed someone to sing on the demo so he asked Jewel and she did... for $100!!! so what does this have to do with "V-12 Cadillac"??? well, Denny also co-wrote that song which Jewel recorded for the MOM II album and can also be heard on my site... really recommended listening if you've never heard it before - it's probably the bluesiest song she's ever done and sounds best with the volume right up!!! :-) Kim Lees Quiet Warrior ICQ# 9270797 - ------------------------------------------------------------ check out QUIET WARRIOR: A New Zealand Tribute To Jewel http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Stadium/7485/jewel.html includes a sounds section of over 100 Real Audio files - ------------------------------------------------------------ "It's getting cold and I'm starting to sneeze I wipe my nose on my sleeve I got the sniffles, I'd better drink my tea Oh, do ya, do ya, wanna, wanna catch a cold with me?" Then a reply was posted by j.hendriks2@tip.nl who wrote: >The song for Ride with the devil is going to be " What's simple is true ". >Jewel told us that ourselves yesterday. Jewel may (or may not) be correct that "What's Simple Is True" may be used on the movie soundtrack, but I think either she was mistaken or her comments about this were misunderstood. That "Spirit" song is definitely NOT the song she wrote for the movie. She wrote "What's Simple Is True" long before the movie. It was written during her 2nd 1997 European tour & you tape collectors will remember that she began performing it during that tour. (It was known as "Winter Song" or "Song For The Winter" back then...remember? ;-) During the time she spent on location for the movie in 1998, she wrote another song specifically from the perspective of her charachter in the movie. This song is tentatively called "The Sue Lee Song" & she's only performed it once. That was at her final concert of the recent Japan dates at Geiso Center in Nagoya. It's a really beautiful song, with haunting lyrics & is, in my opinion, the best new acoustic song unvieled so far on the tour. I don't think any EDAs posted about this show, so I don't think it was ever mentioned before. And speaking of selists, those of you interested in that kind of stuff, will be very happy to discover that I've massively updated the "1999 Setlists" page on Jewel's website. Now, in addition to every Australia show, I have added every setlist from the swings through New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, Ireland, Scotland & the first 4 England dates. Every 1999 Tour concert is now listed up through the Manchester gig last week. Every setlist is complete & 100% accurate & again, I've also included every Steve Poltz setlist as well. So for those of you interested in these things, please take a look & enjoy! (Note: On www.jeweljk.com, go to the calendar & you'll find the setlist link at the bottom of the calendar window) Also as promised, on the lyrics page, you'll now find the accurate lyric transcriptions to the 3 "Spirit Tour" songs I mentioned last week. There will be more, but now we have up "Grey Matter", "Down" & "Love Me Just Leave Me Alone". On the latter two, these are the first accurate lyric transcriptions ever posted. I'd also like to thank all those who are getting in the habit of checking Jewel's website calendar instead of writing me with scheduling questions. I'm making a very conscious effort to update it every single day & it seems to be making a big difference in my email deluge. I was getting over 75 emails a day with scheduling questions & now its down to under 10 a day. I consider that a dramatic improvement! So, thank you for using this resource. I appreciate it! I hope you enjoy all this new website content! A lot more is coming, MrBB ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V4 #273 ***************************
