Dear all EDA's, Hello there, 'tis I, the infamous Jeweled Angel himself, alright, enough about me, let's talk Woodstock. Alright now, as you can all see and as you all better know, Jewel is going to be at Woodstock 99!! YaY!! Anyways, I plan to set up a meeting so that all EDA's going to Woodstock can meet there and have some fun. Alright then, the details are as follows, well, what details there are so far. The meeting place is going to be right at the Woodstock entrance, the entrance to Rome Air Force Base. Right there, I will try to put up a sign, if not, then just look for me, but I probably will, alright, I WILL have a sign that indicates the Meeting place. Just pull over there or walk there and we can all talk and everything, have some fun, and then we can all take the first step into Woodstock together. Sounds like fun huh? Sure it does. It is JEWEL!! And everyone knows that Jewel rules. Alright, I have not come up with a time yet to meet, I am thinking some time in the morning, early morning to meet, so that we can at least get some good parking (yeah right) and set up an "EDA Camp Ground". Cool huh? Alright, anyone that reads this that is interested in doing this with or wants to confirm meeting, then please let me know. Thank you. Sincerely, The Jeweled Angel Jonathan "I am told that I am adored by millions, yet no one calls." -Jewel ____________________________________________________________________ Get free e-mail and a permanent address at http://www.netaddress.com/?N=1 ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 14 May 1999 10:31:57 GMT From: "Dave Ballard" Subject: Come and see my band in Birmingham, England!!!!! The band is called the "Rattelsnakes" (it's supposed to be spelt like that). I'm the drummer by the way. It may come as a shock if you see us because we're a bit of a Hard Rock band, which is a little bit of a contrast from Jewel. Anyway if you can make it come and see us. I'm kind of desperate to get a video tape of Jewel in "Where it's at: Rolling Stone, State of the Union." I'm actually after the whole tape because it happens to have Fiona Apple on it who happens to be another one of my faves. I would be really, really extremely greatful if anyone could help, I have a couple of things to trade like tapes, videos and posters but I'd also pay money, so whatever you'd like is fine with me :) Well thanks if you can help....bye, bye. I just finished watching NBC Later witha brief interview of Jewel (they talked really briefly about Spirit, POY, HGH, ANWA, and RWTD) then they just showed the Jay Leno performance of DSL again...I now have it taped three times ina row...yeah! I love that version...it is soooo her! For all you who said they didn't like it and it's not her...if it's not her than why would she be so creative on her own? That is what she is all about!!!! Live with it, I say, because we are bound to hear alot more of it! I also wanted tell you about the radio contest here to win tickets to the July 2nd Vancouver Jewel concert...I didn't get on...(I was the 5th caller...they wanted the 9th) but the contest was hacving to name 9 words in 9 seconds that had to do with jewels..not the singer or her music...and I immediately thought about that post a while back about all the different quotes in Jewel interviews (IE the many facets of Jewel, shinign Jewel, etc...) The first lady bombed...she only got 7, so they did it again and I didn't get through at all that time...but the next guy won the tickets for his 18 year old daugther by getting 14 in 9 seconds (he was supposed to get 11...they upped the anti) Anyways...just thought I'd share...thank God I already have my tickets and that was just for fun! Hey EDA's, Okay so this is killing me reading all about Jewel's "orgasmic scream" at the end of DSL on Leno, and I've just got to see it for myself, I've only seen the DSL on Letterman and Hey Hey It's Saturday and she didn't exactly do anything special for those ones...so if anyone taped it I'd love a copy and would be happy to send u a tape and cover all the postage. Oh and if u have like all Jewel's MTV things, like Biorhythm (have they screened it here yet?) the Rolling Stone thing, ok wait here's what I have...Unplugged, Fanatic, Foolish Games and Hands on Leno, and the thing where the EDA's went to NY, Jewel TV I think it was, yeah I think that's all. So if you're Australian and have MTV PLEASE reply coz I would really love these performances!! And if it's any incentive I have Jewel video stuff from the UK and some video taped concerts from Chicago and Boston (Jewel gives the finger to her cousins FUNNY STUFF!!) a tiny few of u may have seen these but I REALLY doubt it. I have some other stuff too, if you're interested in trading PLEASE email me :) Louise, "one of the kindest Angels" "In the end only kindness matters" - Jewel ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 14 May 1999 09:18:10 -0400 From: "J. Gregory Yoest" Subject: Jewel's "Sunshine Superman" Last night while driving around button-pushing on my car radio, I happened to hear on my local alternaformat FM station Jewel's version of the 1960's song originally by Donovan called "Sunshine Superman". I knew that she'd done a cover of it, but that was the first time I'd ever actually heard it. Hey, it was pretty good!!! Her singing was good and fit right in to the mood & genre of the (original recording of the) song, and the instrumental arrangement(s) in the recording sounded like the form of the mid-60's slightly-electric pre-heavily-drugged California sounds of the original...without in any way being "imitative /duplicative". Good job!!! Archival research shows to me that Jewel's "SS" is from the soundtrack to the movie "I Shot Andy Warhol", and is several years old. Nonetheless, its production seems to fit right in with the sounds that we hear on her current single version of "Down So Long", which as we know is a cross-format slow-but-steady smash that is going to be on radio stations for the rest of the summer. I'd almost like to hear "SS" released as a follow-up single to "DSL"--won't happen, because it's not on "Spirit", but ...hey, it would work well. May be a good addition to her setlists for her summer concert tour??? ;-) Greg ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 14 May 1999 15:16:06 EDT From: BRONCOBAND@aol.com Subject: rollingstone.com article http://www.rollingstone.com/sections/artists/text/bio.asp?afl=&LookUpString=12 The address given above has a bit on Jewel. Here is the article: This barely retouched debut contains the songs responsible for the mighty Jewel dynasty. "Who Will Save Your Soul" is a coffeehouse sing-along on which her voice gorgeously liquefies and scats at the drop of a hat; "You Were Meant for Me," the melodic marvel she wrote with Steve Poltz, lets loose her spiritualized romanticism in the pop-culture mainstream -- alongside movies and toothpaste. But Jewel's extraordinary "Foolish Games" clinches it: the heart, the soul, the all-American Edith Piaf strivings, the irresistible feeling of a pop hit as literary lingerie. I was watching the Fox (WNYW) News two nights ago, and they were doing a feature on teenage girls getting cosmetic surgery. A reporter was trying to display how the media tells girls that they need to appear perfect, and after they showed some girl magazines, the reporter held up a print copy of Jewel's ANWA and some CD of another artist. I think it might've been Whitney Houston. I, personally, was very offended by it, since though Jewel is amazingly attractive, trying to look flawless isn't what she stands for at all. I don't believe Jewel is contributing to the media portrayal of women at all. Just because Jewel's good-looking, she's making girls go out there to get plastic surgery? I don't think so. Jewel is a naturally good-looking woman. Should she put a fake wart on? And what does the cover of ANWA have to do with giving teenage girls a bad body image? It isn't exactly a physically provocative picture. I think I might write a letter to WNYW. - -Matt, The Philosopher Angel (Salinger99@aol.com) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 14 May 1999 17:58:55 -0400 From: "Jason Keis - DRulz" Subject: Two 7/23 Tickets avail. to trade for Two 7/24!! Please, I'm To all interested EDAs: I finally received the two tickets I ordered for the Jewel show at PNC Bank Arts Center on the 23rd of July. Unfortunately, I am unable to attend this show and would like to attend the show a day after at Jones Beach on the 24th. If anyone has two tickets for the Jones Beach show on the 24th and would like to go to the 23rd show instead, I will be willing to trade. The tickets I have are: Section 403 Row K Seats 178 and 180 (they are adjacent to each other) I understand the seats are "up there" however anyone who has ever attended a show at the PNC Bank Arts center would admit that every seat is an excellent seat. So, if anyone is interested, please email me back at jkeis@accesshub.net. I really would like to see Jewel on this tour since I've haven't seen her perform live yet!! ;( And I kinda screwed myself up with tickets to a show I now realize I won't be able to attend. Had a question, hope you lovely angels can give me some advice. I am camping out in the wee hours of the morning this Sunday to buy tickets to my VERY FIRST Jewel concert ever!! So, I was wondering: I have been reading posts about the HGH benefit and other recent shows. Some people have been commenting on how a person went up to buy tickets and got like 3 of them together, and another person went up after the person who bought 3, and bought one ticket by itself. The person who only bought one got a few rows closer than the person who bought 3, even he/she got them later than he/she who bought 3 at once!! Does that really happen? Because I am buying like 6 or 7 tickets on Sunday, but I plan on doing everything within my power to get front row or as close as humanbly possible!!! Any advice? I thought about buying them maybe 2 at a time, or something like that, instead of one huge group, but if at all possible I would like to sit together with my friends and fellow EDAs, and I thought then. they probably wouldn't be next to each other! Thank you for any advice you can give me!!
