Although all the venues were correct, MANY cities were previously listed as the nearest large city & not the actual venue location. I've recieved quite a few emails from people who have seen the Atlantic site Jewel calendar & that has at least a dozen mistakes on it, & some venues are listed in the wrong state. All the information on Jewel's site calendar is now accurate. Update any calendar information you need accordingly. It has more of an alternative flavor, but is good. Jewel's song from the soundtrack "Under The Water" is alone worth it. It's different from her other songs. I like it a lot. The following is a list of songs from the soundtrack: Tomorrow Never Comes- Our Lady Peace I Have The Touch- Heather Nova All This And Nothing- Sponge Dangerous Type- Letters To Cleo How soon is Now- Love Spit Love Dark Secret- Matthew Sweet Witches Song- Juliana Hatfield (another great song!!) Jump Into The Fire- Tripping Daisy Under the Water- Jewel Warning- All Too Much Spastica- Elastica The Horror- SpaceHog Bells, Book And Cangles- Graeme Revell ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 May 1999 20:16:22 PDT From: "Erin Benoit" Subject: Jewel's DSL Video Halo all, Okay little story first.... I came upstairs to watch TV at about 2pm and turned it on and without realyl thinking switched the channel to the MUCHMOREMUSIC station here and Jewel's DSL video was playing (I have a really weird way of making that happen...when ever I decide to just flip to that channel a Jewel song is usually on or is the next video played...weird) anyways..I just went and did it again at 8pm and it was the countdown (DSL is at #5 again this week) and sure enough it was in the start of that video... So anyway I was watching it for the second time today and like the 30th time ever and I noticed something a little different today. I noticed the part where she's dancing by herself in the little snowing area and for w brief camera pan it shows that the dark cloud scene area is just off to the left of this little area of a babbling brook and flowered snowy haven that Jewel is dancing in and it's like she's inviting us to join her in the light. And Iguess that's what the song is about..."We've been down so long, the end must be drawing near." She's showing us the way out of our down spell...it's neat... It also made me think of a though i had awhile ago after the Colorado shootings...it snowed the next day remember...and I always thought of snow as cold and damp and gloomy but between the DSL video and the scene of that Littleton school parking lot all covered in snow it's like God himself is telling us everything is alright. Snow now means to me a sense of calmness after a storm or at the end of a down spell...it means that we can put that part of our lives away and move on...not necessarily shove it under a blanket and forget about it, but deal with it, make something good come of it and move on with out lives.... Just an observation from an Angel with way too much time on her hands! ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 11 May 1999 09:00:14 +0100 From: "Debbie " Subject: videotech uk Hi A couple of weeks ago i mentioned that videotech would be aired at a new time of 11:30 & it would now feature live music with the featured artist blah blah blah! As Jewel is promoting DSL in the UK around about this time??? Mr BB? Anyway according to Eastwest, promo work will start from May 21st. So it looks as though the episode featuring Jewel will be on May the 20th as DSL is released on May 24th, so remember to set those VCR's:) Debbie ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 11 May 1999 19:29:49 +1200 From: Nicholas Wong Subject: The Lilith Fair CD i'd like to take the chance to thank you all for your opinions on the Lilith Fair CD. It is quite expensive over here in New Zealand. But i brought it after listening to Water is wide. It is a flowing song. Anyway i have been listening to disc one so far an i like it and am glad i spent my money on it. This CD has been one of my better purchases of CD's of late. If anyone out there is thinking of getting the CD, it's a double one. And if you like Jewel you would most probably like most of the other artists featured on it. You've probably heard all this stuff before but I'm telling everyone I know about it (well I know I don't KNOW any of you but I DO know that we are all pretty cool people here, yes?! …and I also know that you are all too nice not to read what I have to say… "'n' stuff like that") I'd never heard Steve Poltz before and I was really impressed. His lyrics were really clever and sometimes very funny ("golfball shaggers" - - well its funny in England. Y'see a 'shag' over here is…oh never mind). He's a really natural performer and had a good laugh with us all. Oh, that reminds me, does anyone know where I can get the Star Wars and Alphabet songs from? Laugh? I nearly exploded! Steves set wasn't nearly long enough but Jewel soon appeared to cheer us all up after he'd gone "'n' stuff like that". After she politely asked some muppet in the audience to be quiet ("Shuttup goddamnit, I'm trying to sing here!") Jewel started to sing. To be totally honest she didn't sing the first few songs with a much feeling (just my personal impression) and she said as much just before the band came on. She'd just done six shows in a row and singing the same songs over and over has got to drain a person "'n'"stuff like that". After those first tunes she really blew us all away with that amazing range and power and emotion that first attracted me to her music. Steve Poltz's influence was evident in the very cool and funny "snogging while you've got a cold" song. Anyone know where I can get a copy of that from? She also showed her flexibility with her country style tunes, the 'rock phase' and the incredible Jewel duel (it took me ages to think of that!) with Doug on the geetar "'n' stuff like that". The whole band were excellent but Doug shone through. The only way I can describe him would be to say he was a human Garfield - shaggy (ignore previous reference!) hair, tatty clothes and very, very cool! "'n' stuff like that". I hope Jewel continues with her 'rock phase'. It's more commercial so it could break the ice over in this country and finally get her some airtime on the radio. Oh and it also sounds great (more of that on the next album jewel?) There are not enough electric guitar solos in songs nowadays. That's about it, apart from me and my friend Louise had a great time (especially at the finale). Jewel puts on a great show and I hope she comes back to England soon. She's got a growing fanbase over here that are very loyal and enthusiastic for her. COME BACK SOON Jewel ('n' stuff like that!) Simon - - the funloving Angel P.S. I'm taking a year out after I finish my degree in June to travel Australia. Any Angels want to meet up and go out for a 'tinny' or something? We are allowed to choose any modern published poet, as long as there is published criticism about this person's poetry. I know there HAS to be some critic who wrote about Jewel's poetry, I just need to find it. It can be something from a magazine or a newspaper, and if any of you know of any articles that could help me out, I would really appreciate it! The grade we get constitutes 25% of our 4th term grade, and I think I can do a great job if I have all the materials I need. Also, I was looking around the Jewel website, and there isn't much mention of Jewel's poetry in the biography section. I am also searching for a more in-depth description of Jewel's poetry influences. Argh, that's all I guess. If any one of you can help me out, I will kiss the ground you walk on. Well, not really but it would be so helpful to me:) By the way, is anyone going to Jewel's July 24th show at Jones Beach? I'm there, 7th row BABY!! I can't wait! Take care, Nicole:) OH yeah, and if Dennis Harris is reading: thanks for the EDAF picks!
