I have to admit he is right when i first found that jewel was going to launch dsl as her new single, i was shocked. She has some much better stuff in spirit she could have promoted, and dsl, though good, simply will not be accepted easily by the public(who unlike us, will think that jewel, even if she was singing nursery rhymes is totally cool) as the song itself is monotonous. It is in the lyrics of dsl that we find true beauty(isnt that always the case in jewel's songs?lol). just a thought of mine.Feel free to rebut me gilbert ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 07 May 1999 22:35:44 PDT From: "Hayley Myles" Subject: Re: down so long on radio >From: LuverMb20@aol.com >To: jewel@smoe.org >Subject: down so long on radio >Date: Thu, 6 May 1999 02:30:16 EDT > >In a message dated 5/5/99 6:23:18 PM Pacific Daylight Time, >owner-jewel-digest@smoe.org writes: > ><< Please call your local radio station and request DSL! > (I will continue to post this list once a week) >> > >actually, if you dont mind spending a couple extra cents, or cashing into >those 'free weekend minutes' on your cell phone, you can call a lot of the >stations and request it, even if they're not in your area. if stations get >tons of requests, that would help too. > >Ami > attention all edas down so long is getting no publicity in australia what so ever so could use all go to the website uglyphil.com and vote for it please it will help all the aussie fans and keep me satisfied.. Today I was at Dairyland Greyhound Park in WI where you bet on grayhounds (you know, the dogs) and then they race. Well I wasn't winning anything and I was getting angry. Then in the 14th race (out of 15) I scanned the list of 8 dogs and I saw the name of one called "Shining Jewel" and the other was "She's the one". So at that point I bet on them and they finished 1 and 2. I took home $80+ on that one bet. Amazing how she does that huh? Also I just looked and Jewel is at Milwaukee on 8-14 so is anyone else going? I'll camp at the line if I have to.... - --- Matt (aka: neo-angel) -"I promise Jewel, I will treat her well my sweet angel, so help me Jesus" -Toadies w/edits by me IGNMail, the coolest free e-mail on the planet, tells people that you are a hardcore gamer. Stupid hick state!!!!! All most of them have is YWMFM and MAYBE *note the bolded maybe* Hands. Even if they say "OK we'll play your song" I've noticed most don't....I've been told by a few jockies that she just isn't that popular here. Well this has caused me to go on the quest of annoying the hell out of them till they break (everyone: the jockies, the public, ect). Also even as I'm writing this my request has just started to be played. Too bad it is 1:15AM so no one will here. So this is where I leave and the quest continues....YEAH JEWEL!!!!! - --- Matt (aka: neo-angel) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 8 May 1999 03:31:16 EDT From: Sean35RL@aol.com Subject: Atrocious setlists Has anyone else been reading the downright atrocious setlists that have been posted from Europe? Disgusting. The same songs every night, all with the band, no solo stuff, maybe one remotely surprising song per night, rote, repetitive stories preceeding the songs. I refuse to buy tickets for either of the shows around here in NY/NJ until her setlists show promise of changing for the better. And don't let me here anyone say that now since she's a big star with multiple hits that she now has to play them everynight and make her setlists more mainstream-friendly(ie: predictable). Bands like Dave Matthews' and Pearl Jam and artists like Tori Amos and Ani DiFranco can do it coming up with new and innovative songs each and every night, Jewel can too. Maybe this is premature worrying since it's still only Europe and not the US tour. We'll see. According to MrBB, Danny's roping cow travels with Jewel and her crew on her tours (they never know when the urge to lasso might hit them!). After hearing of MrBB's newfound obsession for roping plywood animals (thanks to Jewel), I got a copy of that videotape to see what the fuss was about. In typical Harris fashion, I soon felt compelled to build my own four-legged plywood beastie and confront the compulsive demon that grips Jewel and MrBB! Many dark journeys in life start that way, I suppose. Woody is a rev "B" plywood cow, with what I respectfully offer as improvements to the Ferrington classic model. For you engineering types out there, the primary improvement is the inclusion of a three dimensional head that closer simulates the slope of a bovine face and adds the challenge of having to drop the loop adequately forward enough to rope the darn thing! For you artistic types, the outstanding feature is likely the inclusion of Woody's lovable "caught in the headlights" eyes. (Hey, you try resisting that cow-eyed stare!) For the cynical, less sensitive guys on the list, lemme just say that Woody is a babe magnet (right, Tammy/Sue/Amy/Laura/Alice?) This is a cow for all seasons! Woody was a newbie with a fresh coat of varnish at the New Jersey beach cleanup two weeks ago, but settled right in at the Boston Walk for Hunger last week, quite enjoying sunning himself (and getting roped) in the Boston Commons. He pulled his weight earlier in the day, acting as a traffic blockade and entertaining walkers along Beacon Street. (Funny how walkers kept "mooing" as they went by). And of course, he entertained the kids as they tried their hand at roping and, when my back was turned, RIDING him down Beacon Street! He'll be at the volunteer foodbank and barbeque this weekend (god, I hope Ted's cooking CHICKEN or PORK!). But lately Woody has started to pester the hell out of me for WoodStock tickets. He thinks it's a party for HIM! * sigh * Dennis (Yes, we'll be at WoodStock. In fact, we are cooking up plans to set up a block of tents to form a veritable "EDA tent city" at WoodStock, so anyone going should make plans to join us! But while you're kicking back and jamming with us, please just humor the little guy and let him keep thinking that it's HIS festival, alright? ;-) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 8 May 1999 00:32:56 -0700 From: Paul Schreiber Subject: Jewel and legal documents I was reading some stuff on EODA regarding HGH and a few questions popped into my head. 1. Is Higher Ground for Humanity a registered charity? If so, what type are they, and in what state are they registered? Are the papers of incorporation around? This got me thinking...remember how Jewel is being sued by her former manager Inga Vainshtein. And then Jewel countersued. 2. Those documents are also matters of public record. Correct me if I'm wrong, but there is one theme I'm noticing throughout all of the Jewel concert reviews I've been reading since I've been on the list. Everybody insists on sitting down!!!!!! Ah --- I see the confused looks, *ahem* let me explain..... I'm not saying it's a bad thing, but the entire audience keeps sitting down for all of the concert - in fact, tjey have to be encouraged by Jewel to come closer!!!!!!! During the Southampton concert, she said she would fall asleep if they didn't come closer to the stage, and get a little bit more excited!!!! You can understand it for some of the concert --- having about a hundred people suddenly rise up and rush towards you is not a fun thing ---- but it's also the (how can I put this politely?) enthusiasm of the audience? It seems that for the majority of the audience, polite clapping is all that is required, and anything beyond that is just not seen as "proper behaviour" - --- anyone who tries to start handclaps during a song seems to be looked down upon by most of the audience..... I'm not saying we should suddenly jump onto the stage to personally meet Jewel - you just end up looking like a total idiot! (but then again, the people who end up doing this are often the ones who have had a bit too much to drink - trust me, I saw the guy who did that the Southampton concert - he was lying down and drooling later, that's all I'll say.....) -- but we should look like we're having a bit more fun, and show Jewel how much we love the music..... OK, I can see the flamethrowers heating up now...... John. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 08 May 1999 12:31:36 +0200 From: Jesse Houwing Subject: does anyone know this song Jewel sang? I just joined this list last night, and wanted to introduce myself. I'm Gleeby, and I've been a Jewel fan for about 5 years. My friend found 'Pieces of You' in a cutout bin in New Jeresey before WWSYS was released as a single, and thought it looked good. She bought it, and then we listened to it nonstop for months, until it became commercially available, and I could find my own copy. ;) I just read that Jewel is coming around here in July, and I am so excited! Four years ago I was on vacation somewhere, and she had played a free venue the day before I got there, so I've never had the chance to see her in concert. I had read about this list in some magazine (EW, I think) a while back, and I couldn't join because I didn't have internet access...but now I do, so here I am. ;) Well I'll probably lurk for a while now, but I just wanted to say hi...adios. - --- - -Gleebs ;) "What's money anyhow? Hello all EDA's!! I'm new to this list, but I've been reading the mails for the past week or so......basically, I just want to tell you all how SUPERB the Belfast concert was (1st May, Ulster Hall). I live just outside Belfast and when I heard back in February (I think!) that Jewel was coming here, I just had to get a ticket. Anyway, after about 9 weeks of waiting, the night of the concert finally arrived!! Unfortunately, I didn't see Jewel outside, nor would I know any of her crew to talk to, so I had to content myself with the show. I wasn't disappointed!! Steve Poltz also put on a brilliant show (the Irish tune on the second encore with Jewel was special!!). My only regret was that I didn't bring a camera or something to capture the moment. Anyway, I've heard that another tour is planned for next May (is this right???). If it is, hopefully she will come back to Belfast, I'm starting to miss her already!!! If anyone is having second thoughts about going to see Jewel......DON'T..... you will definitely regret it!! P.S. Anyone know where I can get hold of any other Jewel recordings except "Spirit" and "Pieces of You" (I already have those)?? i.e. Where can I get the "Innerchange" tapes etc..?? Please help me.
