I mean, firstly, >there's the problem of sending a donation of 2 "US" dollars and then there's >the problem of sending a self-stamped-addressed envelope. Wouldn't the >return postage have to be American. In that case - how do you do that? >Are there any US EDAs willinging to just send me one or two picks out of the >goodness of their hearts to help out a poor little Aussie EDA? >Or, are there any EDAs who can tell me how I go about getting some. >Much appreciated, Ta! Hi. A quick introduction -- I'm Dennis Harris, a director for the EveryDay Angels Foundation and the person who sends out EDA guitar picks for donations made to the EDAF. The problem with Jess's request is that any American EDAs who would send him picks "out of the goodness of their hearts" still have to pay the costly postage to Australia! :-) And that's after getting them from the EveryDay Angels Foundation (who paid to have them printed in the first place!). As it costs the same on either side of the water, Jess, all you're doing is asking someone to pay your postage for you! And if it's not important enough to you to pay it yourself, why would you expect someone else to do it for you? ;-) The first time the list printed picks, (the list sold them back in 1997 at two for $1 US, with a maximum of six picks per EDA) they SOLD OUT all 700 of them in less than 24 hours, leaving many EDAs without a chance to get picks. Seeing that there seems to be a pent-up demand for "all things EDA" on this list, the EDAF recently chose to print picks again and give EDAs 3 of them as "thank you gifts" for every $2 donation to the Foundation. That's almost the same price the list was selling them for to "break even" two years ago. However, the Foundation is working directly with the manufacturer this time, and is simply rolling the difference in price back into producing promotional items to promote the concept of "EveryDay Angels" and the EDAF itself. (Please keep in mind that the EDAF is a legal non-profit who has to adhere to guidelines as established by the United States Internal Revenue Service, which limits the methods by which we can offer these picks.) We have set NO LIMIT on the number of picks any one EDA can get, and are trying our hardest to see that any EDA wanting them is able to get them this time. We've also made the process much simpler than before, when it was required to "reserve" picks through multiple contacts with designated list members. Here, you send the donation, then get these cool picks as a "thank you gift". The EveryDay Angels Foundation was established in 1997 so the EDAs would have a way of pooling their energies and making a difference together. The EDAF is no faceless organization, it's a dream and a vision brought together by past EDAs that now rides the wings of the present EDAs! And it will go as far as your wings carry it... I certainly understand Jess's frustration -- requests from US EDAs are simple to process, overseas requests are much tougher. The problem is the huge cost difference of sending mail anywhere in the US for only 33 cents (US), versus relatively large fees for overseas mail. (I'm sending an EDA in South Africa some angelfood tapes and the postage will cost $10.50, while US priority mail 3 day delivery to Hawaii or Alaska would only cost me $3.20) Email is much more democratic and inexpensive! :-) However, we have had donations and sent picks in return to the UK and Canada, where the EDAs sent IRC coupons. I believe the worse case scenario was $1.00-1.80 US. So, it's doable, you just have to contact your local post office and ask them the right questions! Our second order of picks is due in this week, so anyone wanting them should contact the EDAF soon. We may not do a third order until later in the year. (For those waiting on their gift picks since last week, thanks for your patience.) If you want to snag a few of these EDA picks and support the Foundation, send a #10, business sized self addressed, stamped envelope (SASE) with cash, check, or money order made payable to "EDAF" to: EDAF Picks c/o Dennis Harris PO Box 305 East Taunton, MA 02718 For every $2 donation to the EDAF, we'll send you a free thank-you gift of three (3) EveryDay Angel guitar picks. (The more you donate, the more picks we'll send you.) You'll also receive a receipt for your charitable donation. Please note that personal checks may take additional time to process. Cash and money order requests will be sent out promptly. (International orders may require special handling. See your local post office to see if they sell a pre-paid stamp coupon to sufficiently cover a one ounce letter being returned to you from the United States.) For those of you who donate, we hope you enjoy the picks, and thanks for the support! I hope this helps clear up some of the confusion. And has anyone got the Lilith Fair CD, i saw it in the CD store as an import, the thing is, the CD costs twice as much as a normal double CD would. Jewel does a song with two other performers. I was wondering if it is worth saving up and getting it to add to the collection of Jewel CD's. Hi Nick, how's things in Wellington... :-) anyway, I think this is a pretty complete list of Jewel's covers and who wrote them (a few I wasn't sure about so I just put the artist)... I've split them into 3 categories - covers of songs she has recorded in the studio, covers she has played live & songs she has performed live with the original artist (so technically not really a cover)... STUDIO RECORDED COVERS: All By Myself (Eric Carmen) Have A Little Faith In Me (John Hiatt) The Jitterbug (E.Y. "Yip" Harburg/Harold Arlen) - with Wizard of Oz cast Over The Rainbow (E.Y. Rudulph The Red Nosed Reindeer (Johnny Marks) - with Nedra Carroll St. Louis Blues (W.C. Handy) The Star Spangled Banner (Francis Scott Key/John Stafford Smith) Summertime (George Gershwin) Too Darn Hot (Cole Porter) Water Is Wide (traditional) - with the Indigo Girls & Sarah McLachlan What Child Is This (???) - with Nedra Carroll SONGS SHE HAS PERFORMED WITH THE ORIGINAL ARTIST: Closer To Fine (Indigo Girls) Home (Duncan Sheik) I Shall Be Released (Bob Dylan) 6th Avenue Heartache (Wallflowers) What Matters (Edwin McCain) Where Have You Gone Jimmy Dean (Joy Eden Harrison) You Can Sleep While I Drive (Melissa Etheridge) >And has anyone got the Lilith Fair CD, i saw it in the CD store as an >import, the thing is, the CD costs twice as much as a normal double CD hey, I'm sure I've seen that here in Christchurch as a normal priced double CD... As a seasoned concert goer, having seen Dylan, REM, Red House Painters, Nirvana, Pixies, Bowie and a host of other important rock icons of the last few decades, I must say that Jewels concert of May 1st in Belfast was the most thrilling musical ride of my life. From the solo desolation of songs like Innocence maintained to the pure rock and roll sweat that was "Down so Low" I can safely say that Jewel is a live phenonomen. Not to mention that she oozes sexuality on stage, and does a nice turn in anecdotal wisdom! Abosolutely draining emotionally it was just to be there - to perform as such week in week out is unbelievable. ___________________________________________ a great shame but after many years faithful service the carraige clock is mine. retired angel ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 4 May 1999 15:57:35 +0100 From: "Liam Mac" Subject: UK Fans: The Infamous Jay Leno Show Hi to all, but especially all EDA's in the UK (that's where I am).
