Hello Everyone, After reading many discussions and people's ideas on how Jewel is not being like the Jewel she should be, I am ready to comment. Yes, Jewel has changed, it is absurd to think that someone will not change. Some changes are for the better, some are not. Yes, Jewel has changed her songs, and maybe her attitude. Does this make you want to criticize each other, or Jewel? Everyone of us is on this list because of one reason. Jewel's music. That is why everyone joined. None of knew as much as we do, or think we do, before we joined this list, and we all joined to talk to other Jewel fans. Now, why tell people if they're hated? Why become angry if Jewel doesn't do a song perfect, or why complain that Jewel is being too head strong. Money does change people's attitudes, but it does not change their talents. Next time you see Jewel on TV don't watch. Listen! Listen to her sing, and remember what it was like the first time you ever heard her, then you will see how great she still is, but for God's sake, don't complain, or become upset when she doesn't act the way you thought she would. Jewel is no better than anyone else. She is human too. Now, her music is better than anyone else's, but that's besides the point. =) Well, I hope I have not angered any one, because that was not my intention. I just want you all to realize why you were on this list in the first place. I saw her singing a wonderful performance of Down so long at 9.00 am at a British BBC Breakfast show, and all were so amazingly cool....Jewel song wonderful, Steve was laughing and the Drum Player i forgot his name was excellent too.. A couple of quick updates on EDA stuff I sorta know about: EDAS VOLUNTEER FOR BOSTON HUNGER WALK THIS WEEKEND! Fresh off last weekend's beach cleanup, the EveryDay Angels Foundation will be assisting as volunteer staff at this Sunday's Project Bread Walk for Hunger, the LARGEST one day hunger relief event in the United States! If you are in the Boston area and want to join fellow EDAs in a good cause, email me and I'll fill you in! EDA GUITAR PICKS The EDAF ran out of EDA guitar picks, and had a timely second order arrive, only to find the factory had printed "TOMORROW'S ANGELS" on them all! How bizarre is that? Maybe they're for EDAs in training? ;-) So, if you have donated to the EDAF and haven't received your EDA picks yet, please be patient as they reprint our entire order! It should take no more than a week. THE ACTS OF KINDNESS SCRAPBOOK PROJECT We have well over 100 EDAs committing acts of kindness and reporting them back to the EDAF in time for Jewel's birthday. The acts will be documented in a scrapbook and given to Jewel this summer, and a digital copy made available for all to see and be inspired by! If you'd like to participate, email me and I'll make sure you get the information you need. But hurry! :-) THE EDA REGISTRY TOPS 180 The EDA Registry, which is a lists by location EDAs who want to get together and meet other EDAs, has grown to over 180. Suddenly, Pennsylvania, California and New Jersey are in a three-way deadlock for first place with the most participants (13 each). If you want to join, send me your full name/email/birthdate/city-state-country. They don't yet reflect the last 20 EDAs to join, but distribution maps can be seen online at: www.EveryDayAngels.com/registry.html THE PLYWOOD COW CRISIS Sightings of plywood cows continue to pour in from all corners of the world. As only two of them exist (to my knowledge), and one is now standing in my bathtub (and Jewel has the other one on her tour), I think many of these reports are simply false rumors. If you do find yourself alone with a plywood cow, I recommend quietly sneaking up behind the cow and roping it. Under no circumstances should you taunt and anger the cow! Plywood warps easily and the cow could become dangerously twisted, regardless of it's resemblance to the SouthPark scaredy-cow. That's all for now, angels. Place nice with each other, and discuss intelligently amongst yourselves. The organisers of 1985's Live Aid concerts and the following year's Hands Across America event are teaming up with the United Nations for a global music extravaganza called Net Aid to combat poverty. With governments cutting aid to developing nations, and the gap between rich and poor widening, organisers are hoping the *October 9* concerts will put the issue of the world's poorest citizens on national and international agendas. Organisers say that they have so far received performing commitments from Sting, Jewel, U2, Celine Dion, Lauryn Hill and John Mellencamp. "Net Aid" will be beamed live on the Web. Singer Harry Belafonte and actor Danny Glover expressed optimism that the concerts at Giants Stadium in New Jersey, Wembley Stadium in London and The Opera House in Geneva will be part of the solution. "What is central is to do what we did when there was great indifference to famine in Africa, when there was no response from governments and other institutions," said Belafonte, who co-chairs the UN Development Programme's Poverty Eradication Committee. Net Aid is being co-sponsored by the UN Development Programme and Cisco Systems, a leading maker of computer networking equipment. Dublin rocks once again for the May Bank Holiday Weekend, as the Heineken Green Energy Festival brings bands, DJs and music industry bigwigs together for a four-day music and tippling extravaganza. Dublin Castle is the outdoor venue for headlining acts UB40, The Beautiful South, Catatonia and The Cardigans. Meanwhile, the Olympia hosts gigs by Mercury Rev, Reef, Jewel and Faithless, and the SFX Centre welcomes the return of The Happy Mondays. There's a free pub trail in Temple Bar and a Band Challenge Final in the Temple Bar Music Centre for a grand prize worth £15,000. If guys with guitars don't spin your decks, then The Globe and Pravda will provide beats from DJs Mani, Jim Carroll, Scottie McNaughton and the Skint Under 5s of Big Beat Boutique fame. adrian. the irsh 'green with envy' eda in exile ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Apr 1999 12:58:57 +0100 From: "Mike Gray" Subject: Performance on UK TV this morning (BBC 1 around 8:50 am) Hi Guys, I'm sorry I haven't checked to see if this was posted, but Jewel performed "Down So Long" on Breakfast TV this morning in the UK. I have a feeling that this post might get quite long and provoke a few flames in my direction, but so be it. Down So Long was performed brilliantly, and Steve seemed to be really getting in to it, as did the rest of the band - a short performance, as they had to cut her off at the end, but none the less, perfectly acceptable. The problem, for me, was the interview Jewel did before, which I saw as representative of the emerging Jewel - very much a gem sullied by fame. Her attitude towards the interviewer was basically complete disdain, and almost a blank refusal to answer the questions in any kind of manner - one line was the best she managed, and even then, it seemed like far too much effort. Jewel, people in the UK don't know about your origins, frankly, most people don't know anything about you - and if you just answer questions with "Yeah, whatever..." they're likely to show the same kind of attitude back. From reports from friends (both on the list and off), Jewel appears to have become more and more stand-offish in her attitudes, which I can only say is a great shame. I know that fame corrupts, but it's sad to see someone with the kind of high integrity she had on Pieces Of You (and indeed beforehand) turning into this. It'll be interesting to hear the reports from any fans who bump into her at the UK concerts, to see if they get the same attitude as those who 'met' (and I put that in serious inverted commas, here) her at her gig in Manchester a couple of years ago. Far from being pleasant to the literally ten or so people who waited for her, she simply pushed past, signed things with such ill grace that it would have been better had she not bothered, and then a few minutes later, either her security people, or people from the venue, threw away the gifts that had been brough for her by her fans. It's interesting to see that Steve is still the nice person he's always been reported to be. I hope that his influence rubs off a little more on Jewel as the tour progresses. In overseas territories such as the UK and Europe, Jewel needs to make friends and influence people. On this showing, it isn't going to happen, and for once, it isn't the record company that's to blame. And I would LOVE any concerts that have been taped, by fans or she's done them for tv. They would be also greatly appreciated. I know I'm asking for a LOT but I'm sure you kind people could help me out :) I'll make it worth your while. Big cheers and props to the J-team and Jewel for keeping prices low for fans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! << Unfortunately, I'm working all day Saturday and I can't find this out for myself. I'd really like to go, but I feel that quite possibly the only left over seats might not be too great. >> I am still confident that there will be good seats left after Saturday morning's sales. Standing in line for wristbands yesterday convinced me even more that Jewel is not a main draw in this year's line-up. Which means that while people are gobbling up Brandy tickets, Jewel's show will remain quietly sitting there for us angels. Since she has a "one-price" for all seats, then your right that getting Orchestra level is probably out of the question. My advice for the best seats is buy one ticket at a time. You'll always get a better seat filling up the holes and you'll get the chance to meet new people. NOTE TO ALL PNC BUYERS ON SAT: This will be the first year that TicketMaster outlets are accepting credit cards for the PNC Shows. Plan for the lines to take an extra long time!!! Which means: (1) web/phone based buying might be the way to go if you don't have a wristband, and (2) that I really believe there will still be good tickets left late. Call me an optimist ... but if you believe it will happen, it will. << Thirdly, I'm also interested in getting some Angelfood, but I just don't know where to turn If anyone can help me in any way, I'd be greatful, so please write me back!>> Just write to tlcathome@aol.com, she'll set you up :-) Now, all we need to know is how do we get Steve out to our house for a little warm-up set before the show???? :-) -- Rob ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Apr 1999 09:54:02 EDT From: Tlcathome@aol.com Subject: PNC show tix on sale tomorrow - reminder Just wanted to remind everyone in the central NJ area that aren't heading up to Woodstock that the PNC tix for Jewel's July 23 show go on sale tomorrow - along with the majority of their program. In the beginning of March my house was struck by lightning, which resulted in a fire. I had been living in a hotel until last week. During the time that I was at the hotel I was unable to make the copies of angelfood that I had promised people. Now I am almost finished all the taping and the tapes will be sent out as soon as possible. If I owe you tapes please e-mail me and remind me. I kept track of most of the people I owed things to, but I don't want to miss a person, so please let me know. And as usual, if anyone is interested in getting more angelfood, e-mail me and I'll send you my list. Also, if anyone plans on going to the 7/23 NJ concert please e-mail me. I'm going as well (hopefully). Thanks guys! The EveryDay Angels Foundation was founded in the City of Angels (Los Angeles), California on November 24, 1997. The idea for the group was developed on this very list by many folks. A handful of list members filed the original paperwork as signatory founders, including Alan Bershaw, Mike Connell, Larry Greenfield, Dennis Harris, Amy Neufeld and Tom Proven. Currently serving as directors and officers of the Foundation are Amy, Dennis and Tom. The Foundation is a registered California public benefit corporation qualified under 501 (c) 3 of the internal revenue tax code. >2) Is there a logo/mission statement for the foundation? If so, what is it? The EveryDay Angels Foundation supports and promotes charitable and other worthy causes through grass roots volunteer efforts. Our vision is to improve living conditions through heightened awareness and volunteer activity. The Foundation pursues this vision by building partnerships to deliver manpower to important activities, matching need and desire to help. To this end we foster alliances with corporate sponsors, community organizations and the individual volunteer. The logo is available online on our web site home page: www.edaf.org -or- www.EveryDayAngels.org >3) What is the main aims of the foundation and the smaller aims? The Foundation hopes to address the critical short term basic needs of our fellow human beings (ie, hunger, shelter and clothing) and the longer term needs of self esteem and spiritual growth. Awareness of each other's situation and needs and the willingness to take responsibility and do our own part in improving and maintaining our common world are cornerstones of our mission. Addressing people's perceptions and physical needs are equally important to us. >You see, my final development is going to be Jewel as a >modern-day-feminist- St George, but I need to annotate the picture, so this >is where the questions come in handy, as I'm going to make Jewel an >angel/fairy, and this inadvertently has to do with the foundation.
