I didnt see the Leno show, but Ive seen a lot of posts to this list that people didnt like her version of DSL, or that she said some things they didnt think she should say, or may have been uncharacteristic of her. So what. I say things uncharacteristic of myself all the time, most notably at poor attempts of humor. This does not mean my personality is changing, and even if Jewel is changing due to all the exposure in the spotlight, then that's her perogative. She is after all, HUMAN, something I believe she has claimed to be all along. As for doing DSL differently, it is my personal belief that a MUSICIAN (I'm getting tired of all these labels like pop/folk/country/contemporary/rock/whatever) is truly great when they are not afraid to try new things (which is also a great thing about being HUMAN). If it doesnt work, they abandon it or improve on it. It's that simple. So anyone who feels the need to criticize Jewel for doing someting different and new with her music or feel her remarks not like her, should really sit down and examine why they are are doing this. Okay, my apologies for the anger burst. I feel better now though:> Michael DiAmico ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 29 Apr 1999 15:41:45 PDT From: "Jennifer McBride" Subject: Let's be fair... Hello Angels, I understand what many have been saying about over-analyzing, nit- picking, and criticizing Jewel, and about how it is unfair to her and mean. HOWEVER, I ALSO think it is JUST AS UNFAIR and MEAN to do the same thing to your fellow EDAs!!! Many over the last few days, including myself, have been expressing our feelings over different subjects pertaining to Jewel, and I have been seeing a massacre of various people ripping into each other opinion's and feelings, tearing them to shreds. THIS JUST ISN'T COOL. Even though we may disagree with each other, or not share the same opinion or perspective on a given subject, whether pertaining to Jewel or not, we should WELCOME it!! I think it would be pretty boring if everyone shared the exact same view on every little thing we discussed, we should welcome different ideas, seeing something through another EDA's eyes who maybe didn't see it the way oneself did. It is ESPECIALLY not cool because it is disheartening, discouraging, and overall upsetting. I know my feelings have definitely been hurt, mainly because people merely misunderstood what I was trying to say. Obviously I don't hate Jewel or would ever want to insult her, or I wouldn't waste my time on this list. Don't you think Jewel would want this list to be a place where free expression is welcomed with open arms? Where even though we all may not agree, we rejoice in sharing our ideas with each other in an "Absence of Fear" ??? Let's keep that in mind, huh? And feel free to let me know what you think about it. I feel I am open-minded, and will welcome it, as long as it is good-hearted, as I think we all should. On July 23rd morning, she'll be doing another one of those "outside performances" for the Today Show outside NBC Studios in NYC. Check the www.jeweljk.com calendar for any additional current scheduling info. It just sounds like pessimistic whining to me... and also- I don't understand what you mean by a "bad performance". So maybe Jewel has acted a bit drunk at some of her concerts, but who cares? The point is that she was trying to say something; and how you interpret her actions is up to you and your own mind. Some people hear noise, and some people hear a burning soul that is trying to reach out to the audience.... best wishes, ~Erin The Fire Angel P.S.- Thanks for agreeing with me, Yael.=)^_^ - -- On Thu, 29 Apr 1999 17:47:04 Willms, Gregory J. wrote: >I think it's only fair to critique Jewel on her bad points as well as the >good ones.
