Hi, all you aspiring guitar players out there! Seriously, I have spotted a couple of requests for Jewel tabs. Rather than reply to individuals, I thought I may as well post what I've found over the past couple of months. Check out these sites:- Planet Jewel http://www.tanweb.com/jewel On Line Gutar Archive http://www.harmony-central.com/ Online Guitar College http://www.eskimo.com/~ogre/library.html Jewel Shrine http://users.wantree.com.au/~awatson/jewel.htm Obviously not all tracks are there (yet). Try to get a couple of versions of each song - they may well have different authors so you may find one easier than another. Please note that some of the tabs are scarily accurate!! I would like the Real audio of it, but heck, I'd settle just to read the words.... anyway, take care Rowdy ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Apr 1999 15:53:45 EDT From: NikosSong@aol.com Subject: Jay Leno: Thumbs Down IT WAS HORRIBLE! She totally butchered the song. Of course, her voice was gorgeous..i have absoloutly NO complaints with that, but the way she presented it was just a big huge BAD! Does anyone else agree with me? She added way to many "bo bo bi do yeah" and "da da da" things in there for my liking. Oh well, I still love her anyway! I just want to clarify something quickly. I don't have a recording of the HGH Benefit. The recording I was referring to was from the So Cal EDA Magic Mountain gathering. So it's just a bunch of us talking and singing (or humming *wink*). I'm sure someone recorded it and even has a decent recording of it. But unfortunately I don't. Thanks!! Just writing in to see what people thought about Jewel's performance on Jay Leno last night. She sure can change her songs a lot. I must say that she sounded so good. Especially her last note where she screamed awwww!!! Also, is there anyone going to the taping of Regis and Kathy Lee tomorrow. I plan on going. I guess I will be there about 7am to see if I can get in. Well that's it. Have a great day! johhny ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Apr 1999 17:57:18 -0700 From: "K.J. & A. Slimline jewelcase. 1998 release By the way, just for the record, I wasn't that impressed with Jewel's version of DSL on Leno last night- too much improvisation, and when she said "Now that I'm a rock-star", sorry but that just doesn't sound like the Jewel that I remember. And as Derrick pointed out- where was here quiet "Thank you" that she ALWAYS says- except for this time, of course? Here's hoping that Regis and Kathie-Lee's going to be better. Subject: RE: Jewel on Leno Well, I didn't see Jewel on Leno this time, so I can't really say either way how good or bad it was. But judging by the posts, it doesn't sound good. The last time I saw Jewel perform something live was probably over a year ago when she sang (what she called) Foolish Games on Leno or Letterman or one of those. It was (in my opinion) terrible. She tried to do too much with a song that was originally a stark beauty. I thought the same thing about the re-recorded video/radio version. How does this relate to her DSL performace? Well, put yourself in her shoes... how many times do you think she's performed DSL or Foolish Games? Literally hundreds of times. I can't even listen to the same song hundreds of times without getting bored with it, muchless perform it. I'm sure what she's doing is changing it around so she doesn't get so sick of it. I've seen Dave Matthews and Phish tons of time, and their stuff always sounds different. But here's the catch, they have more leeway instrumentally than Jewel does. All Jewel can do to change it around is change the vocal styling a little bit. I'm not saying that the changes she makes to the song due to boredom mean that it's OK for her to perform it badly, I'm just saying that there's probably a very valid reason she's doing it... too bad the outcome doesn't seem to be quite as valid. - -greg ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Apr 1999 18:47:12 -0400 From: "Willms, Gregory J." I wanted to add on my thoughts about Jewel last night. I dunno, I always seem to be the only one that thinks this, but I really, really liked the way she preformed down so long last night. She was totally rocking out! She's gonna be great at Wood Stock. Steve was as giddy as ever! Didya see at the end how he started spinning around on one foot or something! He's so comical. Unfortunatly, the little chat she has with Leno at the end disturbed me very, very much! Especially when she said something to the effect of "I figured that now since I'm a famous rock star I should like big dogs" or something. She's just gotten so snobby I could cry. Every time she makes a apperance it gets worse it seems. But (in my opinion) she's still making great music so I'll get over it. And this all ties into something else... Today, I was listening to my local radio stations countdown. The "Power 107 top 30" and Jewel FINALLY entered with DSL at #28. Befor the song they had a little burb of her speaking, I have no idea when this was recorded, but I had never heard it befor. She said "People think I'm a hippie all the time because they don't bother to look at the layers in my lyrics. I knew hands would be misunderstood gravely. I wanted to put out down so long to sorta show a different side of the coin" I managed to tape it all after the word "hippie" because I'm a obsessed fanatic. :) Take care all, Greg Every Day Angel / Fumbler Towards Ectasy / Guitar Strummer Wannabe Actor / Poem and Song Writer / In LOVE w/JEWEL W E A R E L O V E D B E Y O N D O U R A B I L I T Y T O C O M P R E H E N D ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Apr 1999 19:50:46 -0400 From: Mike Connell Subject: Uhmmm....please WATCH and LISTEN to your Jewel/Leno tape :-) I really just don't understand it sometimes :-( At least two posts said Jewel didn't say her usual "thank you" on Leno? Did we watch the same show? Did you see where she was as the song ended and what was immediately happening? >and as Derrick pointed out- where was here quiet "Thank >you" that she ALWAYS says- except for this time, of course? Here's hoping >that Regis and Kathie-Lee's going to be better. (Please note...at this point I am not sure if the posts meant she didn't say thank you as she finished the song, or later....something tells me they meant at the very end of the song though...simply because she DID say it a few times) Let's go to the tape..... D*mn near exact transcript follows...some inconsequential parts snipped out: The song ends....she didn't say "thank you" here, as she wasn't at all near the mic as Jay was walking up to the stage already. She hadn't been singing the last bit of the song since she was jammin' well away from the mic...it was about six feet to her right....is she "bad" because of this? She has to do the same thing every time? Should she have scampered her butt back to the mic to say "thank you", while walking AWAY from her host? Posts likely would have come in saying "How rude!....She walked away from Jay").... she's facing Jay as he walks up on stage.... Jay: (to the crowd) Jewel! Very nice. Jewel: (seemingly BARELY audible.....shyly looking down and away as usual...CLEARLY [read the lips] and QUIETLY says....) "Thank you" (or it may have just been "thanks"...the point is she shyly & quietly said at least "thanks") When she said it, Jay was looking away, not even looking at her say "thank you" nor likely hearing it over the crowd noise....Jewel was not loud enough for the mic to pick up much. Jay: (to the crowd) We'll be right back and talk to Jewel! Jay: (smiling, to Jewel) That was very nice! Jewel: Thank you...thanks for the ______ (I can't make out the last word) Commercial Your honor, I move you dismiss the "No thank you" case and the jury....... >Unfortunatly, the little chat she has with Leno at the end disturbed me very, >very much! Especially when she said something to the effect of "I figured that >now since I'm a famous rock star I should like big dogs" or something. She's >just gotten so snobby I could cry. Jay brought up the topic of the dogs in her dressing room. They are little dogs, owned by her "makeup guy", Jay makes annoying "little dog" sounds. Jewel: (smiling, sarcastically, not too loudly) Yeah, they're little things, I wanna kick them Then, almost AS jewel said the above.... Jay: Those are little "annoying" dogs Jewel: (smiling, laughing) I'm kidding (about the dog kicking) Jay: They're little tiny...you like little.....? Jewel: (smiling) "You know I used to make fun of everybody with little dogs....'cause I grew up on a ranch and was used to big dogs. But now I'm a rock star, I figure...." .(she immediately changes composure.....*clearly joking*...using an odd mimicking almost accented voice and using hand gestures relating dog size) "....heh, it's time I get BIG sunglasses and a LITTLE dog" Jay: There ya go...that's right! Jewel: (half to to the crowd, half to jay...smiling, IMO joking) right? (laughs) Jay picks up the CD and he small-talks the CD........ Jay: ....Congratulations on everything Jewel: Thank you Jay: And thank you for coming.... Jewel: (inaudible, my headphones could not bring it out ...it was likely "welcome") Crowd noise increases....camera now only on Jay, who then thanks the other two guests and bit players.....(camera shows the other guests...never on Jewel again)....roll the credits OK...about the "rock star" comment...... Taken out of context perhaps?!?! Gosh, we ALL know how many celebs have comments taken out of context...it happens every day. They are discussing the little dogs....a COMMON Hollywood stereotypical "status" symbol....Jay started it by joking around about the dogs....lord knows what other "little dog" inside joking goes on with the dogs (owned by her "makeup guy", so she's around them a bit) I dunno...she was smiling having a good time.....not being serious for a second..... I just wish folks wouldn't take little things she says and does (or does not do or say) so serious all the time. Talk shows are fun...joking around....even making fun of yourself.....
