On April 18th, four EDA's and their friends took part in the Walk for Multiple Sclerosis and raised over $700! In addition to helping fight this horrible debilitating disease, the walkers also got to spend a beautiful sunny day scarfing lots of food and drink freebies, and taking a scenic walk along the Hudson River with views of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and the Manhattan skyline. Can you think of a nicer way to spend a few hours? - ---> For all you gulf coast Texans, the weekend of May 1 brings the MS Walk to your neck of the woods. Contact Lesley at DKookyBaka@aol.com for information on joining the Corpus Christi Team EDAF. We hope the Texans live up to their reputation of doing everything bigger and better! - ---> EDAF BEACH CLEANUP THIS WEEKEND! The New Jersey beach cleanup is this Saturday, April 24. We'll be cleaning our newly adopted beach at the South Amboy Waterfront (aka, Angel Beach?) Of course, if cleaning a beach with a bunch of fellow EDAs doesn't sound like enough fun for you, there's more. This is a weekend-long event, with EDA accommodations provided by the Campbell Family Inn and rumors of an Ultimate EDA Stud Poker and Go Fish Card Game, Goofy Golf, and a special surprise event cooked up by that Harris guy (hint: you might want to consider wearing your cowboy hat). For more information and directions to the Campbells or the beach cleanup, email Tammy at edamommy@aol.com. - ---> NATIONAL ARBOR DAY IS NEXT WEEK! Trees are a critical to a healthy environment, and Arbor Day is celebrated in most states across the US next week. Take a minute to find out when your community celebrates Arbor Day, and for suggestions on how you can participate, by looking at the web site: http://www.arborday.org/what/arbor_day_dates.asp?event= - ---> ACTS OF EVERYDAY KINDNESS SCRAPBOOK The Scrapbook Project will creatively document kind and generous acts committed by EDAs over the next four weeks. The book will be given to Jewel as a birthday present after we digitally reproduce it (watch for it to be published online for others to see and be inspired by). Over 100 of your fellow EDAs have joined this project, and will all be committing acts of kindness, both large and small. The project is still open to anyone who wants to participate, just email us at EDAFinfo@aol.com and tell us "hey! I'm the kind of kind person who kind of likes commiting acts of kindness..." (or something like that ;-) and we'll send you details. We've heard of many excellent individual ideas, and would like to suggest three more programs we think would make for EXCELLENT acts of kindness: DONATE BLOOD! Hospitals are always in need of blood, and most communities routinely hold blood drives. However, you must be at least 17 to donate, and there are some physical restrictions. Red Cross provides half the United States' blood supply and likely has a donor program in your area! For more information, see the Red Cross website at http://www.redcross.org/where/where.html or call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE. (The Jewel list has run two successful blood drives in the past.) HELP FIGHT HUNGER! - Foodbanks collect food from individuals, supermarkets, and food companies to distribute to the hungry. Donations are appreciated, and volunteers are always needed to sort the food into categories and check for freshness. To find a Foodbank in your area, see the Second Harvest website locator at http://www.secondharvest.org/websecha/f_getouc.htm For Boston area EDAs, The Walk for Hunger is scheduled for May 2nd, and they are in dire need of volunteer staff (yes, some jobs even involve directing walkers with a bullhorn ;-)! This is the largest annual one-day fundraiser to alleviate hunger in the country, and we are trying to mobilize northeastern area EDAs to lend a hand! Email us at EDAFinfo@aol.com for more info. HELP MOTHER OCEAN! - As warmer weather approaches, environmental groups sponsor beach and shoreline cleanups worldwide. Cleanups are important not only to preserve the beauty of shorelines, but also to collect data used to study our waters. The EDAF participates in beach cleanups throughout the year, and will join in many worldwide cleanup days. See the Center for Marine Conservation website volunteer page http://www.coastalcleanup.org/3_pt/3_ptintro.html for a list of ways you can help this cause. The possibilities are endless! Contact us at EDAFinfo@aol.com for more suggestions, ideas, and guidelines. *** WE'RE ADDING A GREAT EDA SUGGESTION TO THE PLAN *** We're adding a new scrapbook section that was suggested by fellow EDA Victoria. If you aren't able to go out and do an act of kindness by Jewel's birthday (May 23rd), we encourage you to write a short "commitment statement" that you will perform "X" hours of a specific community service in the next six months. Email us your commitment and we'll include it in the scrapbook. But be prepared to follow through with your promise, and don't be surprised if the EDAF calls you on it! :-) We expect some wonderful things to come out of this project, as well as inspiration for other things to do this summer! Take care of yourselves and your world. Amy, Dennis and Tom for The EveryDay Angels Foundation ********************************************************* The EveryDay Angels Foundation is a non-profit public benefit corporation whose mission is to promote grassroots volunteerism and community involvement. The EDAF is online at www.EveryDayAngels.org and can be contacted via email at EDAFinfo@aol.com or by writing to The EveryDay Angels Foundation, PO Box 123, East Petersburg, PA 17520. ********************************************************* ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 22 Apr 1999 22:11:48 EDT From: Harrisbros@aol.com Subject: NJC: Surfs Up! East Coast EDA Gathering this weekend! WAS JewelStock the coolest thing to ever happen on this list? Well, I'd have to split my vote and give at least equal shares to the EDA gatherings on both coasts held by the Morales-Boos and Campbell families! Being a guest of these two families (a couple of times each, at that) has been incredible, particularly Hot Dog Fest Week and The Great Looney Tunes EDAdventure and Blue Llama Safari! So, when Tammy and Rob Campbell offered the Campbell Inn this weekend for our EDAF beach cleanup in New Jersey, ooooooooohhhhh, that silly grin appeared on my face! It all starts on April 23rd. Friday night, we get to wrap up unfinished business with the Ultimate EDA Stud Poker and Go Fish Card Game. Check the water, laser and paintball weapons at the door, because this game will have some winners, and some losers. You gotta know when to hold 'em, and know when to fold 'em... Saturday we'll visit our sandy-haired EDA baby (South Amboy Beach) and do a little straightening up. (Let's see, we put water in the big puddle, sand on the beach and trash in the plastic bag...) Rumor has it that more sport is on hand, including the surprise debut of -- *ahem* -- hey, it's a surprise, I said! But I do think it will rate right up there with other memorable list activities like the Jewelympics, Lazer Tag Mayhem, "They Shoot Angels, Don't They? Paintball", Angels in the Outfield Wacko Ball and Water Wars in the Bearsville Babbling Brook... Later we'll head back to the Campbell Inn, tell a few jokes, sing a few songs, order pizzas with those little fishies on them and probably NOT break out the Twister board again. (I know how to quit when I'm ahead ;-) But not everything is decided yet. You see, Tammy's got Goofy Golf in her head, and when Tammy gets a goofy idea in her head, there's little chance of getting it out of there! ;-) Of course, beach straightening-up qualifies as an "act of everyday kindness", so we'll be doing a scrapbook page on the day's activities. Get in the picture with us! If you've never met the Campbell's, do yourself and us a favor -- get in touch with them at edamommy@aol.com and tell 'em Harris sent you. Join us for one gathering and you'll be hooked. Dennis, sporting hook, line and sinker... (but putting the bait back on the pizza!) (Newsflash: Tammy's thinkin' tacos now, and I'm thinkin' that her thinkin' is pretty good thinkin'...) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 22 Apr 1999 23:23:48 EDT From: ABershaw@aol.com Subject: MrBB-HGH Tickets-Last Call/What to wear? Hi all, This is the "last call" reminder from me on HGH Benefit tickets. Yes, theres STILL plenty of tickets left for EDAs who'd like to join us at Jewel's HGH Benefit in Los Angeles this Sunday evening. Simply follow the instructions below. I think approx 75 EDAs now have tickets, but we do have room for plenty more. We are going to put it up on the website if tickets are still unsold tonight, so I'd advise making your move if you haven't yet done so & want to attend. Oh...& for those wondering about dress. I heard its casual, but thats in "Vogue terms" which is a world beyond my comprehension. I'm sure there will be a lot of fashion industry people there. My only advice is that if you wanna be noticed for a possible cover of Vogue someday, avoid wearing sweats & a Jewelstock t-shirt. ;-) Seeya there. ! MrBB Information: Private Jewel Performance in L.A. & You Are Invited! Jewel will be performing a private intimate performance to benefit Higher Ground For Humanity this Sunday night April 25th at the Henry Fonda Theater in Los Angeles. She would enjoy making all remaining tickets available to her online fans. Consider this your personal invitation! Here's what to do. Call this special ticketmaster #: 213-480-3232. Ask to purchase tickets to the VOGUE HGH BENEFIT in LA Sunday night, April 25th. DO NOT ask for the Jewel Concert or the operators will not know what youre talking about. There is no listing for this other than the VOGUE HGH BENEFIT. If the line is busy, keep trying. All tickets to this intimate HGH benefit are $60 plus service charges. That's it. We will also be proffessionally filming & recording this concert for use in Jewel's forthcoming home video project. It'll be a very special night. Join us there! ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 22 Apr 1999 23:44:37 EDT From: KNicky3116@aol.com Subject: HGH Concert Angels, Okay, I am almost a legal adult now, but can I cry? I wish I lived closer to California!! Actually, if I had the money for a plane ticket I would SO be there. If any of you in that area are contemplating whether to go or not, GO GO GO GO!! This isn't something that happens very often, as far as I know. I am in need of a Jewel concert and if I lived closer, then I'd probably be shopping for a new outfit!! Any chance she'd do another one of these again on the East Coast? - -Nicole:) angel on horseback By the way, those of you who contacted me about the trade for my ANWA cd, I'll be getting back to you soon.
