When I first started to like Jewel it was all about the look. Man, she had serious looks going on for her. That was what I liked. But as time grew on me and I listened to her music I no longer really cared about the looks. She has the sweetest personality I have ever seen. I'm just saying that with all the talk of her teeth or whatever doesn't matter. She could have fangs....I really don't care now what she looks like. She is THE angel. Hey all just looking for some good suggestions for an audition song... I have auditions for the school musical coming up "West Side Story" and was wondering if anyone would like to help in my decision to choose an audition song... I would love to sing a Jewel song or one that she's covered or any other suggestions would rock as well... If I want piano playing along I have the music for Foolish Games... otherwise any other jewel songs would have to be acapella (whether they be songs she's sung a capella or songs she's sung that would sound ok without music).. was thinking of "Too Darn Hot" maybe? Something that flows though not like Adrian or Daddy or I Hate Valentines Day and nothing too cutesy... or if anyone has the piano transcriptions for any of her songs which they can scan or find online and send to me that'd be great!!! I'd really love to hear from anyone with suggestions.. my voice is kinda lowish too by the way so songs around the pitch of WWSYS or 1,000 miles are good.. My voice sucks but I may as well sing a song I like and that's nice.. maybe it'll help.. he he he! anyway off to get some zzz s nighty night Chris ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Apr 1999 02:13:07 +0000 From: shallowend@asan.com Subject: Re:Why do Fumblers hate us? The question really is why do other lists hate us, almost every list I know of has had some sort of problem with the EDA's, the Tara list, the rugburns list, FTE. One time I told a story about how Tara refered to me as an EDA on the Tara list and got flamed by people saying I'm an ITW not an EDA (sorry but Tara can call me whatever she wants and I'm not going to correct her.) I was'nt there for it but have heard stories about how the rugburns list reacted to the EDAF thanksgiving concert we put on. This is for 2 reasons the first, simple jealousy: For about 6 months tara was more involved with the EDA than she was with her list, same with Steve and everyone else, when Steve wanted to do a living room tour he went through the EDA not his own list. We've pulled off alot, Jewelstock, the EDAF, gatherings, we have a respect and power that other lists just don't have. The second reason, Us, we flaunt our power, brag about. Our love everyone hippy dippy view of life is just asking to be hated. I ignore it,there things that I hate about this list so I cant blame other people for doing the same, and you know what if I wasn't an EDA I would hate this list too, it's just the way things are. Actually, in her recent Seventeen Magazine interview, she gave the impression that she might get them done after all... because her dentist says that if she doesn't get them straightened soon, she could wind up with serious damage. Is there something going on > between Jewel and Sarah that I might of missed? Is it all over that > TIME Magazine Cover maybe? Maybe this is why the fumblers hate us so! Someone said that the reason that very few of the higher profile acts were included on the compilation CD was that those compiling it (Sarah? dunno) wanted to highlight the lesser known artists, and get them a leg up on the public... I mean, Jewel wasn't exactly hurting for popularity, and one track on a compilation is usually just thought of as advertising in the biz... Although, looking at the list you posted of the second volume's line-up, the certainly don't seem to by shying away from the big names this time around... although most of what I listen to is so underground, I think of Morcheeba and N'Dea Davenport as mainstream... but no-one could call Queen Latifah or certainly Sinead O'Connor lesser-known... .end.transmission. | Jesse Dangerously | .10.04.good.buddy. | without justice | ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Apr 1999 11:13:55 -0400 (EDT) From: just-a-girl@lycosmail.com Subject: Q's for Brit EDA's Hey again, Just a few questions. Firstly, has the vid for DSL ever actually been shown in the UK yet?? I haven't seen it on MTX/The Box yet and despite Jewel having spent the last 3/4 weeks in the MTV U.S top 20, the whole video has not been shown. I know the single hasn't been released yet, but usually, The Box at least manages to air the video a month in advance of release. Can someone correct me if I am wrong? Secondly, what is the deal with Jewel and Glastonbury? Is she definitely on the festival bill? I'd love to go and see her there but the price, teamed with the prospect of being knee deep in mud for 2 whole days is slightly off putting?? Does anyone have plans to go if Jewel is playing there?? Does anyone know what was up with Jewel and the > Lilith Fair? Why was she only given a compilation track with Sarah and > the Indigo Girls on Volume 1 of Lilith? > I remember reading a rolling Stone issue that was reviewing the Lilith Fair. Now, I don't know about anyone else, but the interview seemd to portray a sort of unrest between Jewel and the rest of the performers, even if one of her idols was performing also (Tracy Chapman). This could well be just the interviewer's opinion influencing the story, but it seemed to be abit more than that. In fact, the interview made out Jewel as having 'plastic sweetness'. That is, faking her nice-girl image, her chumliness, if you will, with her fellow musicians. It even said that it was a favourite thing for the other Lilith fair artists to stand backstage during Jewel's set and try and pick which of her songs were a cover and which ones weren't. MOst of them were adament that YWMFM was a cover of some song that escapes me at this time... Ahh well, maybe I'm just reading it wrong, but I definately was under the impression that some of the fellow Lilith fair didn't take a liking to our Everyday Angel. A lot of them, during various interviews (Not Lilith-related interviews) made passing remarks and jokes about 'Not having some outrageous story about living in a van and being poor'. Ahh well..... By far, 5/12/96 In response to the person posting asking about the most wanted piece of Angelfood out there I will post what has become an almost regular request that I send to the list every 6 months or so. To me, my personal most sought after piece of angelfood would be a tape from a show Jewel did at the Intersection in Grand Rapids, Michigan in her summer of 96 tour, May 12th to be exact. This is one of the few times ever Jewel played a cover version of "House of the Rising Sun"(a song made famous by the Animals and Bob Dylan) and the rest of the set was equally fantastic including songs that she basically never plays anymore ever. This is the basic setlist that I've comprised over researching this show for 3 years now. It is not completely accurate but this is prob'ly pretty close. Note some very rare songs including stuff that wasn't even played at Jewelstock. This is along with the Tradewinds NJ show on May 21, prob'ly the best non-Jewelstock and non-coffeehouse shows I have come across. *=with band Behind the Wall Little Sister Kiss Your Ass (!) Daddy Raven (!) She Cries (!) Louisa and her Blue Guitar (!) 1,000 Miles Away *Marital Carnival (!) *Carnivore (with the old lyrics) *Morning Song *Love Me Just Leave Me Alone *You Were Meant For Me *House of the Rising Sun (!) *Foolish Games *Pieces of You *I'm Sensitive (improv version, something about Robin Hood, prob'ly like the Tradewinds "peaches version") (!) Sometimes It Be That Way Money (!) Near You Always Angel Standing By Amen (encores) *Who Will Save Your Soul Chime Bells So if that isn't the most desirable Jewel setlist you've ever heard of, you tell me what beats it. The Tradewinds show from that summer along with the famous Paradise, Boston show are both great shows in their own right and are available on "angelfood" that is readily available. This May 12 show at the Intersection in Grand Rapids, Michigan however I have never heard of there being a tape. There has to be one out there somewhere though, it's just a matter of finding it. If anyone has any info about this show please contact me. Also, most of the info above was culled from the review of an Aaron Matthew Suever who I assume is no longer on the list. His addy was squeek@biology.lsa.umich.edu. If anybody knows him or has an updated address for him, also please email me.
