Subject: RE: Will Jewel love the "scrapbook"? Of course she will! Here's my take on this thing... Why is it such a big deal? She's obviously going to like it. Does anyone truly, honestly believe that she's going to receive it and say, "Oh, god, I can't believe those people would do something like this. How thoughtless." The only negative I can see in it is that the things that people are planning to do for this scrapbook are things that Jewel wants you to do all the time, not just because it's her birthday. Besides, if you'll only do something nice for someone because it's Jewel's birthday, and not because it's just a nice thing to do, then you have some bigger things to deal with. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 Apr 1999 16:47:24 +1200 From: "Kim Lees" Subject: just what you all needed... *another* scrapbook opinion... :-) Hi Angels, I think the scrapbook is a great idea!!! I can kinda see how some of you see it as a way of kinda showing off to Jewel how great we are, but the way I see it it'll be like a record of how she has inspired people to make a difference... I mean, just imagine how great it must be to think all these people have gone out and done these wonderful things because of you... that's gotta be one of the best presents you can give someone!!! I know she says she doesn't like people giving her things for her birthday but I think it's more the spending money unneccessarily part that she doesn't like... making a scrapbook only requires time and effort, not money... besides, I think people tend to appreciate things more when you make things for them rather than buy them things... I stopped buying people xmas cards years ago and started making them on the computer instead - takes a bit more time and effort but I think it's more meaningful than just going into a shop and picking a card from the rack... like I wanted to give something to Jewel when she came here... I could've easily gone and bought something but instead I spent months transcribing and compiling a book of her lyrics, as a kind of momento of how much her music meant to me and has inspired me... as soon as I gave it to her she became really cheerful - she seemed to really appreciate the fact that I had gone to so much trouble to make something for her... :-) Kim Lees Your New Zealand Angel Standing By ICQ# 9270797 - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ check out Kim's JEWEL Shrine... http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Stadium/7485/jewel.html includes a sounds section of over 100 Real Audio files - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ "I liked you much better when I didn't like you at all" Jewel Kilcher - "Now That You Have Me" ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 Apr 1999 07:16:39 -0400 From: Courtney M Gordon Subject: scrapbook Dear Angels, I can't really say one way or another if Jewel is going to like it, but i think she would. if she loves it, great! If we are going to do this scrapbook thing, how do we document it. I'm not in the EDAF, but there is something I will be doing at the end of April that I can share. So who do I tell? P.S. Don't bother trying to win the guitar...I got it in the bag!!! ;) hehehehehehe hey- one more thing- at the back of the mag where it has the official rules it says that guitar is worth like 300 dollars???? WHAT???? It's a Taylor...the one that she plays is like 2,000 dollars. Right? What they fail to realize, however, is that the scrapbook is all about Jewel. It's her birthday, and the whole point is to give something that pleases her. Now she has said that she wants people to do everyday acts of kindness. So whether or not you are getting self-gratification from your good deed is a moot point, because all that matters is that Jewel will see how many good deeds were done in her name, and that will make her feel good. How could you not feel good knowing that something good(all these acts of kindness) is coming of your fame and influence, and that without her in the world all these acts of kindness would never have been committed? I don't pretend to know Jewel as good as a lot of other people on this list, but I think knowing she has made a positive impact on the world is something that she would like. I am soon going to buy my first car and I was wondering if the stickers have glue on the back or are they static cling?? I am assuming they are sticky on the back. Which means putting them on a car would be nearly impossible. If they are not static cling I'd like to suggest that J-merch team create some. If you like my idea tell the J-merch team we should be able to persuade them to make them. Eliot ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 Apr 1999 19:40:07 EDT From: STAC5984@aol.com Subject: Another needed scrapbook opinion :) Hey, For those of you who say it seems showy, like "hey jewel look what your little followers did." Or think that we might be doing it in hopes of recogintion: Sure, some people might do it for that. But the only part you can worry about is your own intentions. I think the majority of it will be done because of good folks who want to help out a little in this world, and show Jewel how she inspires us. Who cares about a small minority that might do it for their own selfish benefits (which i can see no benifit besides a feeling of satisfaction for helping others). That is something they will have to deal with, and their intentions are not ours to judge. So stop worrying about what Jewel might think, or if it may look selfish, or if others might do it for the wrong reasons. Just get out and do something! There are plenty of volunteer things you can do, even small ones. We won't get into that on the list, im sure it will be discussed on the scrapbook list. So i encourage you all to get involved with this. Its a wonderful feeling to know that something you have done might have made someone's day a little brighter.
