It is a great picture of her and ther is a six page article all about her with a quiz of Jewel trvia and her style tips mixed in. It is really good and I recomend it to everybody. It was ok, but I hadn't listened to it all that much because it just didn't seem as sincere or personal or whatever. But today I was driving down the road when 'Hands' came on the radio, and I was actually moved to tears. This is where it gets really sappy, but please bear with me. I've been paying close attention to the situation in Kosovo, since I'm in a military town and most of my close friends, as well as my boyfriend, are in the military and now are all on alert (my boyfriend is already gone; I'll see him again in September). Hearing the song made me think of how horrible the situation is over there for all the innocent people involved, and how sad it is. It's not fair that things like that happen, but sometimes they do happen. We can't take back things that have already happened, but our reactions to things can have a ripple effect. Thinking about all this just made me realize something I knew already, which is that if people can just be positive in little ways, it adds up and make a change in a big way. Sometimes it's hard to keep this in mind, so we all tend to think, "well, that would be nice if *everyone* did that, but just my little bit won't help, so why bother?". Well, if people got just a little ambitious and used just their own pair of hands to do what they were capable of, if *everyone* did that, then it actually would make a change. That's the whole point of the song. I personally can't singlehandedly stop the conflict in Kosovo, but I can make changes in my attitude and actions to affect things in my environment. I suppose my big message is, please, take more time to be kind to those around you. There is enough pain and negativity on this planet. Be positive. Hug someone, grow a plant, be courteous to fellow drivers (even if they're being not nice), encourage someone, smile, bake cookies for people far away. I think some people get grumpy and mean because they get too wound up in stuff, not because they're horrible people. So maybe if just one person is kind to them, it may make them pause for a moment and realize that, and may cause them to be kind to someone else. Of course, it may not, but that's not your problem. I *can* say that thinking about this and practicing it has made me feel happier and more at peace. So don't be shy. Use your hands to do good, even in little ways. Keep yourself happy so you can reflect your happiness to others. You guys must be wondering at this point where the heck was that "SOME Jewel Content". Well, I was at Jewel's one and only concert held at the nation's capital, Kuala Lumpur. Needless to say, her performance took my breath(and also my voice) away. It was an amazing show and the comfy crowd of 2,500 had a blast. Just like every other person recounting their concert experience, I will say Jewel live on stage is beautiful, powerful, funny and even bashful. I could go on and on about her and that magical night of April 1st but I would probably put y'all to sleep. Hope to pop up again sometime soon with something to contribute to the discussions but it is back to my lurking corner for the time. And now, back to your regular program... I was having exams during that week, sent a friend to get the tickets and they were sold out in the space of a day? I know, it's freaky... of course I went around the whole college telling everyone "No one is a bigger fan than me!" *grin* Seriously, I think most of them got the tickets after hearing "Hands" or something... and besides, the tickets were incredibly well-priced, so I think most people went just for the sake of going to a concert. I know it's been next to forever since I last wrote but I've been immensly busy! Ok, so, my dream. Last night I had this dream that Jewel was staying at my neighbors house for one day. And while she was there she was giving free performances throughout the day on their roof. (this gets kinda bizarre) But, amazingly only my small neighborhood was there. So anyway, I diligently atttended each minishow and clapped loudly after each performance (even the ones where i was the only one around!). Then I saw her standing in the door downstairs and she came out to talk to me. And I got really hyper and nervous and I was jumping up and down and shaking and I told her I'd be right back. So I came down with a bunch of things for her to sign, my two cds, two books written by her (I couldn't figure out what the other one was), and the pastel drawing I had done of her. She signed them all and told me how glad she was to have a fan like me. Then next thing I knew she had a restraining order against me! Who knows! Me and my freakish dreams!
