Hey EDAs, Well, as I'm sure everyone can tell from Luna and Tessa's posts, we did indeed have ourselves a little EDA party down here in Texas. I originally thought that their two posts covered it pretty well, but lately, I have been "informed" otherwise. :) So here's our weekend, from a guy's perspective: The first thing we did on Friday was go to this Italian place called the brick oven. I got this really good pasta with lots of cheese, Tessa got lasagna, and Luna got this HUGE HUGE calzone which actually turned out to be mostly full of air. :) Anyways, we were all chatting...well, THEY were both chatting. I was just kinda listening in. Both of them have been on the list WAY longer than me, and they were going off on how kewl Dennis Harris is, how neato Tom is, how cuties Steve Poltz is. Sometimes they talked about songs that I didn't have a CLUE about. I think there was like two times the entire weekend where I said something about Jewel or answered a question about Jewel that they didn't know. But it was sooooo kewl! Anyway, after dinner we decided to head over to Luna's and watch some jewel tapes. It was kinda weird in the car, 'cause you're like, "These people like Jewel. These people want to go and sit and watch/listen to hours upon hours of Jewel. These people know the lyrics, know the angelfood, know the inside jokes....WOOHOO!" I was so happy I'd met people like me. SOOO, we go back to her house and we have this AWESOME sing a long! Luna knew how to play some jewel songs, and we just went at it. I mean, I'd never even known anyone before who even knew Boy Needs A Bike existed, let alone know the tabs and lyrics! It was crazy! And Luna had a REALLY great voice. Really great. She rocked! Finally, we watch this tape with Jewel performances from the late shows, Much Music, VH1, and so forth. It was mostly ANWA period stuff, but it was still pretty good. So the next morning, we all go off to Fredricksburg! It's one of those small towns that's full of history and that has everything noteworthy in the city all on one block for your convienance. :) In the car, Luna TOTALLY amazed me and Heather with her tales of traveling Europe, taking a bus to Hot Dog Fest '97, and *gasp* actually TALKING to Jewel! Then, we got to the town and started to have a look around. Yes, we DID do a lot of girly stuff. But that's totally kewl. I knew we were probably going to do girly stuff anyways....and besides, it didn't matter to me! I was ecstatic enough just hanging out with them. We went to candle shops, bargain stores, and even this little place that sold only things having to do with the sea. At the bargain store, Luna got a few butterflies, and some fake grapes that Tessa found for her. Tessa didn't buy anything, but I think she was REAL close to buying that $800 model ship. :) Then, we stopped to get a bit to eat. We went to this quaint place called The Dog Haus that served hotdogs with cute little dog names. For example, I got the chihuaha, which was a hot dog w/ chili, cheese, and onions. Tessa and Luna both got German Shepards, which is basically a big ol sausage with some mustard and saurkraut. Luna didn't get saurkraut on hers, but that's beside the point! Anyway, we eventually had our fun in Fredricksburg and started heading back. I sat in the back seat and listened to Radio Angels for the FIRST time. It was my first time hearing "Everything Breaks" AND (Luna and Tessa, you didn't know this) it was my first time hearing "Rocker Girl" too! And if you've ever heard those two songs, you know what my reaction was like listening to those two for the first time. AAWWEESSOOMMEE! Plus, on the tape, it had some cute interviews b4 Jewel got big. She seemed so full and alive and happy in thoe interviews...a lot more than she does know.....no, hold on! I'm digressing! That's a WHOLE 'nother e-mail. Or actually, that's 1 other e-mail, and 199 responses! So we're just driving along, and then all of a sudden, Tessa shouts "Lava!" And Luna gets all stunt driver and slams on the brakes. We get out of the car and walk back. And I'm like, "Lava? Lava's coming out of the ground?" So I ask Tessa, "Are you sure you saw lava around here?" And she's like, "No, LLAMAS!" And so I'm like "Oh! okay!" So we go out and look at the llamas. None of them came close to us, but it was still pretty kewl. After some more llamas and a harrowing action sequence on a dam, we get back to Austin and go to this awesome coffee house called Mozart. Well coffee/shakes/slushies/everything you'd ever want in a drink house is more like it. AND they have this awesome double deck patio that goes right up to the lake Mozart is on. It was totally kewl! So we bonded some more over some drinks. This is about the time that I just started to feel so lucky that we had all met each other, and how much we all liked each other. Or at least, how much I liked everyone. :) I was REAL sorry to see the day end. Well, there's my story. And I'm sticking to it. In review: 1) Meeting other EDAs is GOOD! 2) Working as an El Paso lifeguard is BAD! 3) Jewel is GOOD! 4) Jewel's SNL outfit was BAD! AND...b/c I knoew almost every guy that's reading this is saying, "Yes, that's all well and fine. But Amias, were these two girls cute at all? Yes! They were TOTAL cuties! Both of 'em! But they've got boyfriends, so ease off! Geez, people sometimes.... That's about all I have to say on the subject. Just more people need to go out and GO FOR IT!!!!! - -Amias The Llama angel ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 04 Apr 1999 16:34:23 -0400 From: Mike Connell Subject: Hands loses AT40 grip, but Jewel won't be Down So Long Hi folks :-) Just a small newsy post here. Chart stuff..... On Casey Kasems' American Top 40 (pop radio), "Hands" fell off the chart from last weeks' #36 spot (it peaked at #3 on January 23rd). It had spent 23 weeks on the chart. The chart is at http://charter.simplenet.com/kclatest.htm For comparision buffs, "Foolish Games" spent 27 weeks on this chart in 1998, peaking at #1. "You Were Meant For Me" spent 36 weeks on the chart, peaking at #1 and being the #1 song for 1997. "Who Will Save Your Soul" spent 25 weeks on this chart in 1996, peaking at #3. Good news chart-wise....."Down So Long" just made its' debut on this chart at #34, being the second highest debut this week (the highest being Shania Twain at #31 with "That Don't Impress Me That Much") Also, on the other main national Radio Show chart in the USA, The Rick Dees Top 40, "Hands" is still hangin' in there at #36, however "Down So Long" hasn't popped in on that chart yet. She's not sure of everything, so if ya wanna give her help, it's midnight162@juno.com But NEways, I have a Jewel interview thingy that TEEN Magazine wrote about her upcoming role in Ride With The Devil. It's pretty interesting, and since I know that not everyone of you are teens, I'll send it to you if ya drop me a line. So if ya wanna find out how they rated her acting ability, I suggest writing me up.
