OK, quite a few people promted me to upload the picture, so I placed it at http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Realm/9919/jewel.jpg If anyone has seen it before, would you kindly please tell me where? And I'm still looking for information on the suing business. I won't be surprised at all if it is fiction (the Huisgenoot is famous for it. The last article was about internet chat rooms. It warned that IRC is definitely nor for children, and is very dangerous. Go figure). Thanks in anyway. Till later! I trust you'll put the article up, Jean? :) Yep, I put it up. Which reminds me.... As I was leaving the concert hall, my friend met her friend, who I think is a reporter or something. She had attended the Jewel press conference and said it was actually kind of sedate until a reporter kept harassing Jewel about her personal life. Apparently, Jewel got so pissed off that she nearly walked out of the press conference. Or so the friend says. I'm compelled to think that the reporter was somehow from the New Paper or the magazine, etc... you know how trashy they are..... : 2. Jewel - As Jean mentioned, yes, I got the set-list :))) Almost got a : drumstick too, it was definitely heading my way, but this guy behind me : reached for it. well, you should have seen the recording of that 'Tonight with Gurmit'. Jewel was throwing food to the audience, and there was this mad scurry for it. My friends and I were laughing because there were people reaching beneath our legs etc for them. And no... we did not attempt to catch the food... Jeez.... But my friend did get a Jewel guitar pick though. But anyway, the interview that they showed on telly was very edited... There were plenty of funny bits that they cut off, which really incensed me because the interview before that with Annabelle Francis went totally unedited! : 2. No Steve and Jewel duet :( Wait, I do vaguely recall Steve and jewel : sharing a mike for a bit - what song was that? You Were Meant For Me. Jewel actually had to sing softer because her voice totally overpowered Steve's. : 5. Lousy ushers. Spoilt YWMFM for me, pestered me to sit, and wanted to : confiscate my camera, but I promised to put it away. Until I got to the : front, haha!!! I think I may have got some pretty decent shots. LOL!!! Good for you!!! I was sitting very near the stage, and I did get kind of annoyed when people started coming right in front of us to take pictures. And their flashes... woah! Blinding. But the ushers were really good in catching all those with cameras aren't they? But I got really, really annoyed when the ushers started hanging out around my seat, blocking the views. My friends and I were like, 'Get away! Go away!' : 2. I would love to have some angelfood (does that refer only to audio?). : How do I get some? Are there any video releases at all? Girl, I've got both.... angelfood and video releases... will be contacting you privately about it :-) : Now to listen to my Steve Poltz tape (hehe, jealous Jean?:))) Dont : worry, a copy's coming your way... Extremely! Okay, enough from me! Enough! I'll go back to lurkmode until more reviews come along!! Subject: Updated my web site Hello EDAs, I have updated my site http://www.geocities.com/sunsetstrip/frontrow/7026/ and for all of you that have not checked it out I think you will like it. I have added a non frame version and I am still working on the real video and audio. Jason ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 3 Apr 1999 00:14:13 +0800 From: "Jason Cheow" Subject: Guitar chords for Down? Hi EDAs, I heard Jewel play Down at her concert and was just blown away by it. Although she said it was a new song, I managed to find a RealAudio recording of it dated 1997. She probably meant new as in new to Singapore. Anyhow, as the subject states, any of you have chords for this song? Thanks, Jason ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 02 Apr 1999 10:12:39 -0500 From: Rachel Subject: Come on everybody lets vote, vote, vote!!! :-) @~Everyday Angels~@, Hi! How are you all doing? I am okay. I am posting because I want to let everyone know that you should go to www.mtv.com and on the top there will be something that says MTV Online. Below that click "shows". Then look at the left hand side of your screen. It lists the shows on MTV. Click all the way down and you will find Total Request Live (Alphabetical order Angels :-). It will, of course, take you to Total Request Live. Under that it has a paragraph saying "Play My Song". In the paragraph it has something you can click that says "Play My Song" in white. Then it will take you to a whole bunch of songs that you can choose from to vote for. You know where to go, right?!! To J with Jewel's "Down So Long". Click it of course than go to the blank box with "Send my Comments" and fill it in with why you want to pick that video. Then of course fill your name and choose your state than submit. The reason why I am telling you to do this is because for those who don't know "Total Request Live" is a show on MTV that is on in the afternoon from 3:30PM-4:30PM and it shows the ten most requested songs. You can either request on-line or request through a telephone number that you call from 3:00PM to 3:30PM. I am not sure what the telephone number is. Whoever knows please post it to the list. But even so, I suggest voting on-line because I have tried numerous times to call at 3:00PM to 3:30PM and of course I got the busy signal. So, even if you don't get MTV I really, really, really, would appreciate you going to www.mtv.com and voting for Jewel's "Down So Long" video. I think that "Down So Long" hasn't gotten played enough and for such a great song it deserves to be played and to be well known as a "Jewel song". So, when you get done reading my post please vote a couple times. You can vote as much as you want. I have already voted numerous times. Come on angels, we can make this happen!! Please do so! We can get Jewel on this show. All it will take is a little effort but COME ON we are EDA's!! :-) So, in conclusion, vote a little (or a lot perhaps) each day! I will tell you if it gets on Total Request Live and I will keep on you about voting so VOTE, VOTE, VOTE. Your Angel who is in need of your fingers for voting on-line or calling, @~Rachel~@ The Night Angel with Silver Wings and a Golden Harp P.S. You can also watch Total Request weel-days at 9:00PM to 10:00PM. P.P.S. Total Request Live is a weekday show but you can vote every day *hint, hint*! :-) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 02 Apr 1999 12:46:23 PST From: "Jill Muno" Subject: Aussie interview "Alaska's an oddplace, the rest of the States doesn't really get it: they can't understand someone coming from a working rural background, they assume you have hippy parents. I live in Illinois and I see fields where my food comes from all the time. Today I read through the Cosmopolitain and got to a summary of the Washinton Post's annual list of what's in and what's out. They have Jewel as out and Lauryn Hill as in....HELLO????? Anybody getting the Washington Post know anything about this? Anyway, if you have this compelling urge to send flames and lots of them, the address is cosmopolitan@assocmags.co.za...:-) Happy flaming! Koos PS: that was meant as a joke, K? This particular article was on the salary paid to sideplayers and appeared in: MUSIC EXECUTIVE INSIDER - #5/April 1, 1999 - ------------------------------------------------------------------- SIDEMAN SALARIES Are you sitting there in the midst of your modest home studio wishing you were out on the road making big bucks as a sideman (or woman) backing up some famous superstar? Well, the perks may be plenty and the salaries high, but the glamorous gigs aren't all they're cracked up to be and may soon be coming to an end. Things started getting cutthroat a few years back when Michael Jackson, Madonna and Eric Clapton started paying up and over ten grand a week to key players. That's right - $10k a week for doing what you love to do - not bad bucks if you can get the work. Musical directors and drummers seem to be considered key players - Ricky Lawson, Greg Phillinganes, Neil Stubenhaus and Leon Pendarvis have been known to command the 10k or more a week figure. However, resentment, side deals, and "industry standards" (if there are such things) have created drawn-out salary negotiations that now make things like points on merchandise sales, box office gate receipts and points on CD's sold after the fact a contentious matter, up for grabs and open for dispute. Recently, Jewel's management refused to pay a noted LA session drummer a weekly touring fee far less than the 50% of the 10k a week gold standard, remarking that they "...could go to Swinger's this afternoon and find a drummer for $250 a week..."! For those unfamiliar, Swinger's is a faux burger joint that doubles as a Hollywood slacker hang. If Jewel's management and their bizarre attitude are any indication of prevailing climates, the day of the exorbitant sideman paycheck may soon be coming to an end. And, like so many of their peers farther down the foodchain, the high paid pop sideman may find himself coming home to a much skinnier bank reserve. ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V4 #175 ***************************
