Hi everyone! Ok, I'm still sick, cough cough, so I've had a lot of time to think about useless and unrelated issues. But anyways, I was just wondering if this is just my opinion, or if anyone thinks that the song Trent wrote on the Daria episode, "Pierce Me", sounds like a certain song that Jewel wrote?? Below are the words to the song, please send your responses, I wanna know what you think! LITTLE SISTER by TRENT AND THE MYSTIK SPIRALS Little sister, little sister, you came into my life like a twister, what can I get you that haven't taken? What can I get you that hasn't been killed by corruption and greed? What can I get you that isn't tie-dyed, or just like you already have, or plastic, or not alive, or so sad... If you don't know much about her, and can get to a show, >especially a solo show, I highly recommend her :-) I second Mike's emotion. I didn't make Jewelstock, but afterwards, I remember hearing quite a buzz on this list about the opener at Jewelstock, who I'd never heard of - "some chick named Patty Griffin." :) I happened to be out shopping for CD's at some point several months later, and saw her CD (Living With Ghosts) and picked it up because it was cheap, and I had heard such wonderful things about her. Her music is fantastic & I cannot recommend it highly enough... both of her CD's (Living With Ghosts, and Flaming Red) are amazing... they each have a very different sound, but they're both great. At the risk of being branded an outcast & rabble-rouser, I'd even say that I've grown to like Patty's music more than I like Jewel's... Jewel is good, but in my 'personal pantheon', Patty ranks quite a bit higher. I had the pleasure of *finally* catching Patty live at the Iron Horse in western Mass. back during last October, I think, (playing with a band), and she was just as good live as I hoped she would be. I'm already planning on going back to catch her at the Iron Horse in mid-April (what better way to celebrate starting a new job? :). Get to her show if you can, you won't regret it... especially if she rips into a live, full-band rendition of Wiggley Fingers like she did at the Iron Horse show in October... prepare to see the roof blow off the place. :) Definitely catch Patty if you have the means... she makes some amazing music, and is even better live than she is in recordings (not that the recordings are anything less than awesome, to begin with. :) Don't miss it if you can help it. Trust me, you'll have a good damn time. I'm not actually on it, but my best friend is, so she sent me the necessary info for joining and I thought I would just post it here so I don't have to reply to each request (sorry--I'm inherently lazy). It might be helpful for the other people who were looking for other mailing lists to join, too. Here's the 411: ToriNews Mailing list. This list is for Tori News items only and is currently a moderated list. The subscription information is as follows: Send an e-mail to torinews-request@smoe.org with subscribe in the body of the message. Majordomo will send you a confirmation request, please respond to it promptly, and then you're in! Another great site for Tori info is MikeWhy's "A Dent in the Tori Amos Net Universe." This is located at http://www.tori.by.net and has all the information you could possibly want -- if it doesn't have it, it has a link to someone who does! I believe there is also a list called Precious Things, or something along those lines, although I'm not sure how to join. I'm sure that info can be found at The Dent site, mentioned above. Hope this helped! Hi all, Jewel is basically relaxing with Nedra this week & will resume the tour of Singapore, Malaysia & then Japan over the next two weeks. (It's great that we now have 1st hand accounts available from EDAs in these areas of the world! Looking forward to hearing all about it! Yet another advantage of this expanding community.) Following Japan, they'll all be coming home for a few weeks. There will be a few HGH media events & another Tonight Show appearance on April 26th. Then it'll be off to the UK & Europe. (see all currently available scheduling info at Jewel's website.) I know a lot of you are curious about the new songs that Jewel has been refering to as "country". They do have some of that "high lonesome cowboy sound" quality, but I wouldn't quite call them country music. They're all (at this point) still solo acoustic & remind me more of the acoustic songs circa 1996 that all the oldtimers love so much. There's definitely a more apparent influence from her dad lately in the song structure. Steve & Jewel also wrote a new one called "Valentine Song" thats real nice. That should be surfacing at shows any time now. She's having a great time with this band & they've gotten far better since the TV appearances earlier this year. I think many of you will be blown away by how hard Jewel & the band rocks toward the end of the shows. Songs like Down So Long, "Love Me Just Leave Me Alone" & "Down" really cook these days. Oh, & on "Down", Jewel STILL has not written definitive words. It's still being improvised on a nightly basis lyricly. Some new items (including the "Spirit" songbooks) are now up on Jewel's website at the new redesigned store. I think you'll find it much easier to navigate & view store items now . For folks into Steve Poltz, he's our current featured artist. A fairly extensive discography for Steve is included for you collectors out there (following the bio). As always, at: www.jeweljk.com That's about it for today. Oh yeah....For those who mighta missed it: Mike Connell casually slipped you some excellent advice earlier. Last week I was flying to Colorado on United Airlines, and DSL was on their music program, accompinied by a small pic of her in their "Hemisphere" magazine. Also on the plane was Forbes magazine (w/Puffy and Jerry Seinfeld on da cover), Jewel was featured in the Celebrity 100 under the heading "The Multi Task Force", along with Brandy, Master P, Dennis Rodman, and more. There's just a small portion about Jewel talkin about all the stuff she does, and how much she makes (film salary: $576 per day). And finally, I was just flippin through the channels yesterday and when I came to the TV Guide channel I thought I saw someone farmiliar, It was of course Jewel. She was being interviewed, but I only caught the last few seconds, and this is all I heard her say - "...you'll never know what will happen" in the background there was some writting saying National Poetry Month. Sorry I can't give any more info on it, but I'm guessing they'll probobally repeat, or at least I hope so. Well that's it. Anyway I have been wondering for ages who is the "Jacqueline Snyder" that Jewel dedicated " Life Uncommon to? And what's the story with that and the "God Bless you in your journey", did she die? Is it about her or is it just a song Jewel wrote and then decided to dedicate to this lady? Also I don't know much about Jewel's family apart from her mum and dad so who are Shane, Kelli and Atz Lee? Are these her siblings? And if so is there any info on them around the web or whatever? Lastly I wanted to know who is Sally in "Boy Needs A Bike"? Ok well see ya all later...
