I immediately headed for J in the cd titles. Low and behold theres Jewels' new single "Down So Long". I got excited, I couldn't wait to see what the B-sides would be. But I should have known better. It had live versions of "I'm Sensitive" and "Fatboy(Fragile Flame---the better title)" Don't get me wrong I love these songs but I've heard them already. Its frustrating because I know Jewel has a ton of songs and they keep insisting on putting live versions of already released songs on the singles. Well I just thought you'd like to know later. === Shaun (Deep Water Angel) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 26 Mar 1999 01:18:38 -0500 From: JImmy James Subject: Jewel's poem got read by Steve Austin on Conan O'Brien being a huge wrestling fan and Jewel fan, I was watching Conan O'brien and his guest was Stone Cold Steve Austin. well at the end of the great interview, Conan asked Austin if he'd like to read one of Jewel's Poems from the Night without Armour book. Austin said he had the book and loves it. (but I think he was joking)... Conan and Austin talked about the book, and talked about how good it was before Austin read a poem. I'm not too sure which poem it was, but it was about looking at little girls and remembering being one. it was really funny since Austin, a wrestler was reading it. after he read it, Austin said this was one of his favourite top 3 books. Conan noted that the poem was great and Austin said he should have read a more juicier poem. hahaha, I can't wait for Wrestlemania! hehehe JImmy ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 26 Mar 1999 08:09:43 EST From: GwenThree@aol.com Subject: Jewel on TV guide channel for poetry month You may already know this. It may have already been posted even,I am really behind on my mail. Anyway. I was trying to see what time it was this morning and so I turned to the TV guide channel (the channel that tells you what shows are on when). Any way who did I see, none other than the beautiful Jewel. It was a public service announcement I guess about national poetry month, All I caught was the last 1.5 seconds of the ad, All I heard jewel was something about reading poetry. So I'm going to be watching the TV guide channel for a while so I can get it on tape :) Just thought you all might want to know if you don't already. Some are solo, many are opening for Lucinda Williams. I also have most of the venue addresses and phone numbers, but did not include them in this post. We plan on putting up accurate setlists to all the 1999 shows on Jewel's website as an additional area of the calendar soon. I have all the Australian setlists & those will be up in about two weeks. (Jewel's website master Jon, is on vacation & I'll have them ready for him when he returns) Along with all the Spirit (& POY) material, there's been quite a few new songs & a few resurrected obscurities popping up here & there. Poltz has been writing some great new ones as well. It's not all organized yet, but along with those accurate setlists, we'd like to include EDA reviews. As each leg of the tour progresses, we'll continue it. It takes time though, so we'll always be a few weeks behind. So in the meantime, keep reviewing & posting setlists here if you attend a show. It seems that ever since that whole vet/newbie stuff there hasn't been much to talk about. And there haven't been that many posts either. I find this a little weird. Is the only time some people come out of there shells and post is when there's something to bitch about. I just a thought to keep you guys thinking. Now the real reason for this post. I was wondering if there was anyone who knew when Jewel was coming back to US to tour. I live in Pennsylvania and if there are any EDA's who live in PA are thinking about going to a concert when it comes here email me at JewelAng@aol.com. I live in the Philadelphia area. Well I better shut up before I lose you guys. Later. It was about the meaning of Hands. I feel just how she does. At my church our youth group preformed this song (in which I sang part of it by myself) and we repainted our sunday school room. On the one wall we put hand prints all over the wall in matching paint colors. It turned out so pretty and looked like sponge paiting form far away. Now the point I'm getting to after all this is that song meant a lot to most everyone in that group. (You exept the ones that were only there by force) But the reason I love that song is it makes us fell good and makes us want to be better to this world and the people around us. I know that everyone we prefomed for really loved it. Lately I've been going though some stuff where I've been very down and low and that song has made me relise that I'm okay and I should exepct myself for who I am. Well I hope this post is not too boring. If you have anything to say about what I wrote please contact me. Well better go lot's of love. This is a horribly late announcement for tommorrow's gathering in Balboa Beach. It is from 5pm-10pm on Saturday, March 27th, at the Balboa Beach Pier at 21st Street where Supieror Blvd and Newport Blvd meet on the peninsula. Here are the directions: Get to the 405 and 55 interchange 55 South ends at Newport Blvd Take Newport Blvd until you see the Pier There are tons of shops, etc.. If you go past the Balboa Fun Center, then you passed it, turn around! We'll be way on the right of the beach near the fire pits with EDA T-shirts (we hope) and an EDA Sign. Jason is bringing his BBQ and the fire pits should be all good. If you can, please bring ingredients for s'mores, hot dogs, condiments, buns, hamburgers, drinks, or whatever you can! ('tis not a requirement, but the more we have, the less we'll run out of) It costs $$ to park in the parking lot and most of the surrounding area, so bring some $$ if u want some convenient parking. As usual, Lori (larthur@fullerton.edu) organized all of this (thru our new e-mail list!) and will be there in full force complete with friends and smiling faces! Write down Lori's pager # (714-433-4752) in case you get lost! (Or page Gerrit at 714-266-9792 if by some horrid luck you don't get a response) Jason (arunsun@rocketmail.com) is organizing a Magic Mountain get together on April 10th. E-mail him or the EDASoCal@endor.org list (to subscribe, send a blank e-mail to EDASoCal-subscribe@endor.org) for information. Gerrit ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 26 Mar 1999 20:05:49 EST From: Emilie0278@aol.com Subject: BlahBlahNews (French magazine) Hi EDAs there is an article about Jewel on the current issue of the french magazine BlahBlahNews avalaible freely in La Fnac. here is the translation : "Jewel is still unknown in France. This girl came out of a bubble, sprung from another age, come from a parallel universe. Jewel hangs far over the underground excitement of new musics made with the plunder of others'. Pretty and sensual, she runs neck and crop in a second album. Spirit only appeals to senses, tears, emotion. It might have been forgotten in a fold of the seventies or imported from a planet where the year doesn't work out in 365 days. Her first album made as much damage as a twister in the States. Her music seems to be made for all the quadras who are on command of the north american life. For Jewel, far from being run-down, only does what people like Francis Cabrel and Jean-Jacques Goldman are doing in France. Just pop or rock songs. Among the people who came in studio with Jewel, there are musicians like Tom Petty, Dwight Yoakam and a huge songwriter unknown here John Prine. If one had to sum up her influences, one might share in 3 equal parts between 3 ladies : Joni Mitchell, Ricky Lee Jones and Tori Amos." Here are the lists that were created. Again, you can get more info at http://www.endor.org/jewel under Mailing Lists: S. California (To subscribe: EDASoCal-subscribe@endor.org) Ohio (To subscribe: EDAOhio-subscribe@endor.org) Toronto (To subscribe: EDAToronto-subscribe@endor.org) Chicago (To subscribe: EDAChicago-subscribe@endor.org) New York City (To subscribe: EDANewYork-subscribe@endor.org) Pennsylvania (To subscribe: EDAPenn-subscribe@endor.org) Again, these lists are solely for organizing gatherings in your area. They're completely unmoderated, so it's up to you what else you want to use them for. If any lists get abused, please mail me at abuse@endor.org with a copy of the e-mail abuse and I'll see what I can do. I've gotten requests from EDAs in the following locations. If you are in one of those and would also like a list, PLEASE let me know and I'll create one for you (assuming there are enough of you to make a list): Boston Seattle Tennessee Minneapolis North Carolina Salt Lake City Texas Of course, if your area is not listed above, let me know you want in and get others in your area to write me so we can get enough people to justify a list. Also, if you are willing to drive to an area covered by a mailing list, it wouldn't hurt to subscribe and join in on the gatherings! :) (The New York City one may be good to cover quite a bit of miles up there) This is the final e-mail to the list regarding this issue. You can always get more information from my jewel page as listed above. The entire purpose of this is to get more EDA gatherings going around the globe!
