OK, so it's around 3:30pm Sunday afternoon at Christchurch Domestic Airport, I've been patiently wating all day since the morning for any flight from Wellington frantically looking for any blonde woman that looks kinda like Jewel... so anyway, this blonde woman turns up in a cowboy hat and stuff so I think it's gotta be Jewel and I rush for my camera and everything before realising it's not her... seconds later, however, Jewel appears with her entourage so I'm trying to get photos of them while they are all pushing me away and saying "no photos, Jewel says"... I manage to get a few anyway but probably no decent ones... I follow behind the group all the way to the car, trying to explain that I've got something I wanna give to Jewel... for the past few months I've been busy re-transcribing all the lyrics on my page and fixing up any mistakes so I could compile them into a book and give them to Jewel... so anyway, once she's safely in the car one of her entourage takes my book and gives it to her... I explain to her how hard I've worked on it and she says something like "oh, that's so sweet, thank you"... next I notice that blonde woman I saw earlier in the cowboy hat is starting to say something to me... I look around and it's like "oh, you're Nedra!!"... so I get talking to her for a bit, she's really nice... she asked if I was an EDA so I told her I was the only one in Christchurch which was kinda cool!!! anyway, all the while I'm trying to get pictures of Jewel in the car... the "no photos" people don't mind so much now I've given Jewel my book and have been talking to Nedra... I got a couple of pictures of Nedra that I think will come out real good... so anyway, I look around and there's still more people arriving... "Hey, Steve!!! can you sign my CD for me???" "Sure, no problem", so I grab my copy of "One Left Shoe" and he kinda awkwardly signs it - he was busy putting stuff into the back of the car at the time... I ask him if he can get my Jewel CD's and stuff signed for me but he kinda shrugs so I get the idea and ask this other guy standing near with a british accent, who earlier was one of the "no photos" people... he says my best bet is to hang around at the soundcheck tomorrow, which is what I'm gonna do anyway... and with that, they drove off as I tried getting some last photos of them driving away... if I'd thought about it earlier I almost coulda jumped in my car and followed them to where they were staying but I was far too star-struck at this point to think of stuff like that... by the way, this whole post I just wrote as stuff came into my head so I'm bound to have missed stuff out... so anyway, that's about it!!! :-) Kim Lees Your New Zealand Angel Standing By ICQ# 9270797 - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ check out Kim's JEWEL Shrine... http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Stadium/7485/jewel.html includes a Real Audio section of over 100 songs - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ "They always say, 'Hey, great kid, have a nice day Happy birthday, have a great day day' But it's all just fake anyway They need an excuse" Jewel Kilcher - "Need An Excuse" ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 20 Mar 1999 23:50:49 -0800 From: "K.J. & A. A good reason that I get the loose version, is that if there are any people offering free angelfood, video cassettes etc., you will not miss out on it, like you probably would if you get the digest version(They may post it in the morning, and the digest comes out hours later). That, and because of my visa and condition, I'm stuck at home with nothing else to do, but wait for my Jewel posts! For any EDA's who are interested (Probably canadian EDAs) "Down So Long" just entered the Much More Music Count down at number 25! That's pretty good for the first week. Most video's enter in either 30, 29 or sometimes 28. So in other words, if any Canadian EDA's haven't seen it yet, watch the MMM count down. We even enjoy copies of the best circulating "stealth tapes". Most venues do not permit you to bring in recording equipment though, so be aware of that. I know I'll get flamed for simply reporting this accurate information, as I've been through this over & over again through the years. Just remember that the best Angelfood tapes were distributed to The EDAs from us FOR FREE, so please consider that before you flame me. Several people have been pressuring us to make "an official taping policy" & believe me, thats not what you want, because then the answer would be an unbending NO. As I said, no-one on Jewel's crew is actively looking for small stealth portable audio equipment, & we've always encouraged the FREE tape trading scene. So act accordingly & enjoy the shows. So act accordingly & enjoy the shows. MrBB Don't forget, folks, thanks to Jewel's unofficial support there have been two immediate benefits: 1) We EDAs enjoy a HUGE library of live Jewel concerts, as part of the legacy of past list activities. 2) Jewel herself has reclaimed more than one lost song thanks to EDAs taping a concert from years ago and then sharing it with her. I'm quite jealous of someone with so much songwriting talent that she "forgets' some of her hundreds of songs simply because there are so many to keep track of! And now the confession: I really wasn't going to make a big deal of this, but I've been verbally smacked around by a few people for staying silent. OK, fine. I'll share my 5 minutes of "fame" with the family. :-) Check out a book called "Angel Standing By" at your local bookseller in the music section. The author, PJ McFarland, wrote to me over a year ago, asking if he could use a couple of the pictures from my web site for a book he was planning on writing about Jewel. I signed the release form, sent copies to him, and forgot about the whole matter. Imagine my surprise when a friend called and told me, "There's a Jewel book out, and you're in it!". Pretty cool. McFarland acknowledged my photos, but that's the only benefit I got from the transaction. In fact, I lost money on the deal since I made the prints at my own expense. Just so you know, I didn't do it for the money. :-) It's not a bad book; there are a few minor factual errors and a couple of dates are wrong, but on the whole it's a fairly accurate chronicle of Jewel's story. You might want to rip out the rabid fan-boy image from the pictures section, though; that guy looks dangerous. :-) - -- | Greg Dunn | And all you touch and all you see | | gregdunn@indy.net | Is all your life will ever be. | | The Sultan of Slack(tm) | Pink Floyd | | http://www.indy.net/~gregdunn/ | | ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V4 #151 ***************************
