Mike :-) ">>>> Okay people I smell a moral coming on here. I have been on other lists and this has been my experience. When a "war" so to speak has broken out the list has been revirginized. Which means for about 2 or so days everyone one the list is unsubscribed and the b/c once more a virgin. Then those who remain faithful to the list should feel free to rejoin those who would rather stay away because of dislike for the list can also take that road. My experience with this has been a good one. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 18 Mar 1999 20:16:13 +0100 From: "Francois Cartegnie" Subject: EDA Gathering - French Concert - May, 26th There's a lot of enthousiasm around the EDA gathering in France. Unfortunately, I personally can no longer attend to this gathering, since the concert date has moved from 18th, to 26th. I can't also even go to the concert. (I'm really angry. Could you believe ?) But THERE WILL BE A GATHERING ! The Gathering would take place around 2 or 3 hours before the concert, and place would be the in front of olympia (wich is the concert place, in this way, nobody could be lost, I hope). Ones that are ready to welcome people and lead the gathering there, would contact me. (Preferably long time EDAs : Maybe Michiel ? Arnaud ? Emily ?) I'm really sorry and sad, but the 26th, I'll be in full exams, and I can't miss a day. Hope you'll all have a great concert/gathering. The French Angel. Francois. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 18 Mar 1999 10:46:45 -0600 From: Ronnie J Stratton Subject: Jewel's Boyfriend/Striptease hey EDA's Today I was watching MTV and I saw Jewel's new video. I forgot the name (that's just like me in my temporary memory loss) and I thought "Gosh, Jewel has changed." I have never seen her wearing clothes like that. It was odd. I mean, it wasn't anything totally revealing, just some cleavage baring shirts. I guess since I joined this, I've been more aware of Jewel and her actions. I didn't think JEwel was like that. Maybe I don't her that well. You tell me, has she had an image change? And I was flipping thru TEEN magazine, like most teens do, and I saw a HUGE article on Jewel. Like someone else said, the Marylin Manson deal flipped me out. I was like, "Has she lost her marbles?". But NEways, they were talking about how she is dating soap star, Chris Douglas. Now, I've learned to believe half of what you see and barely any of what you hear, but I trust ya'll so is she really dating this guy? if ANY OF YA WANT A TRANSCRIPT OF THIS ARTICLE, I'll be happy to write it out. Just put "Jewel Transcript" in the message box. I know most of ya aren't teens and are guys so you don't get teen magazine. So write back and help me answer. - -RJ The Bubbly Angel 0: ) "Love bravely, live bravely, be courageous. There's really nothing to lose. The live CD is a recording of a performance held not in a club or a concert venue, but in an actual living room in an actual home. Perhaps even more unique, the concert was not arranged with the normal necessities of tour promoters and traditional advertising, but by the fans. Not that she couldn't do it the traditional way. Berryhill has toured internationally, first hitting the road in 1988, and she already had released four studio albums by the time the first "living room" concert came together. "I was on a tour doing club dates in 1997," said Berryhill, a Ramona High graduate and Encinitas resident. "I still had another month of dates to go. That particular year, I took a singer-songwriter from San Diego named Elizabeth Hummel. "I had a day off in Boston and I didn't really have anything to do. Somehow, Elizabeth and I got started talking about some of these Everyday Angels who started coming out to my shows in San Diego." Everyday Angels are Jewel fans who communicate with one another through shared e-mail. The EDA's affection for Jewel apparently had spilled over to other San Diego-based songwriters, including Berryhill, who has never worked with Jewel. Berryhill called Los Angeles resident and EDA Larry Greenfield, asking if he could contact other Everyday Angels through e-mail and arrange a get-together in a Boston home. "We showed up the next night just expecting to have a cup of tea and talk to some people," Berryhill said. "There were 30 people who came out. A lot of them were meeting each other for the first time. "People had driven from as far away as New York City, a five-hour drive. While Berryhill said a few did ask if she knew Jewel, there was no expectation that the more-famous singer would show up. "I think they just really wanted to hear some new music and feel like it was music they could trust," Berryhill said. She resumed the tour after the show, thinking the living room show was a fun but once-only event. Back in Encinitas, her husband, writer Paul Williams, began wondering if other shows could be organized using the EDAs, and Greenfield was wondering the same thing. Meanwhile, the living room show had taken on mythical proportions on the EDA e-mail list, where fans were trading "The EDA Cafe," a tape of the concert. Berryhill hired an "Internet tour coordinator" to put the word out on the list. Anybody who wants to host a concert would give a $100 deposit, which they could earn back by charging a suggested $10 admission fee. Shows attracted an average of 20 or 30 people, with one show bringing in 100 people. "It wasn't any kind of money-making venture for anybody," Berryhill said. "These people really wanted to do this. They were psyched about the idea. "More than anything else, they were happy about us being there. A lot of these people talk to each other every single day on this list, but they hadn't met each other." Berryhill started the living room tour in New York and worked her way west, playing about a dozen shows. Because many of the fans were younger than 21, the living room tour was their only chance to see a performer such as Berryhill, who usually plays clubs. The EDAs sent reviews of each show to one another, and at each new stop somebody would hand Berryhill a review from her previous show. After fans wrote that Berryhill ate a brownie and likes red wine, she would find brownies and red wine waiting for her at the next show. The EDAs have continued organizing living-room tours with other San Diego artists, including Joy Eden Harrison and Lisa Sanders, and they have continued to record the shows, which are numbered in chronological order. When Berryhill and cellist Renata Bratt played in a San Francisco home - the show would be named "Living Room 16" by the EDAs - the homeowner recorded it with professional equipment and persuaded her to release it as a CD. Berryhill played her last living room in July and does not have plans for another such tour, but "Living Room 16" will be released Tuesday and should be stocked at Lou's in Encinitas and other record stores. She also is selling the CD at her live performances, scheduled for every Wednesday this month except March 21 at Twiggs, 4590 Park Blvd., in San Diego. She is playing the South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas, on March 21. The CD also is available through her Web site, www.mwpsoft.com/clb. ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V4 #145 ***************************
