The other Mike C is very misleading here.....I can recall only stopping two or three of his posts, and it basically has to do with the fact that he is engaging in activity that endangers this lists priviledge to openly and freely trade tapes of Jewel's music. His posts offer video compilations of Jewel, but I have more than enough evidence that he's selling them and other Jewel audio for profit, and that is plain and simple *illegal* and cannot be condoned on this list. This list COULD be shut down or reprimanded by the RIAA (who monitors this list) if it condoned such activity . End of argument. This whole argument over Vets and Newbies is totally stupid. Don't get me wrong I am totally trying to dis all of you taking part in this argument. Do you guys know why I joined this list. It was after hearing about what you guys did for the guy who need the wheelchair i was like wow I want to be a part of that. Concentrate on stuff like that no What will the future of this list be. Whatever the future will be is up to what we do now. Uhhh duh. You'll go about as far as a one legged dog sitting around daydreaming about the future. I have been a member for about a month now and this is the first time that I have posted. I really resent the fact the "vets" think they are superior to us. Granted, they do more about the list then me but i am eager and willing to learn. They are no more devoted to Jewel then I am. To say that I am not a true fan because I am new to the list is completely unfair. I know my fair share of info and yes, I do enjoy the "before she was popular" music of jewel. So get off you high horses and stop implying that you are better fans and all around superior to others, because the simple fact is that YOU AREN'T!!!!!! ~michelle ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Mar 1999 08:29:10 PST From: "jewel jk" Subject: NJC: STOP THIS INSANITY!!!!!!!! hey you people are really starting to piss me off. i came here to meet other jewel fans and thought people actually cared about eachother. i guess i was wrong. all you people are doing is filling up others mailboxes with more stuff to delete. no one wants to even read the list anymore. i say end this argument right this second and lets get back to jewel. oh, and i think mike is doing great job. he keeps this list from being shut down by people trying to do illegal stuff. so dont diss him. Here's my transcript of it: DS - Host Diana Ser SN - ShowBuzz voice-over narrator JK - Jewel [DS]: In 1974, a baby girl was born. She grew up in Alaska on an 800 acre homestead which had no television and the bathroom was an outhouse. When she was 6 years old, she started singing and learned how to play the guitar. At 19 years old, she got her first recording contract which resulted in over 10 million copies of her first album sold. Tonight, she's performing right here at the States Theatre. And, the talent is as precious as the name... Jewel [SN]: First it was Pieces of You, and that alone sold 10 million copies. Now, this Alaskan gem is back with the release of her second album, Spirit. Well, Jewel is certainly sparkling now. Because, besides just having completed the music video for her new single, Down So Long, her current single, Hands, has been riding high on the music charts. [DS]: People from different cultures will listen to this song. And... but, no matter what languages they speak, what is the one thing you hope they will get? [JK]: Umm, everybody has to wake up in the morning and see how they are going to get through the day. You know, if they are unhappy, umm, if they are poor, umm, many things. So the song to me is just about how do you keep making it through the day. [SN]: Jewel has said that she felt POY could have been a better album. She insisted there were missed chords and sub-standard singing. She wished she could do more. [JK]: It's been a bit exaggerated and misconstrued about what I said about my first record... I like my first record, I'm proud of it, but it's a folk record and it amazes me that it could sell 10 million copies. I always compare it to visual art: my first record is like a pencil sketch, my second album is like a pastel drawing, my third album will be like an oil painting. Your craft progresses. [SN]: Good news. This singer and poet is heading for Singapore for the first time end of the month. Though her album is one slick production, you'll get to see the real Jewel in her live performance. [DS]: What sort of a concert can we expect? [JK]: Umm, I think my live shows are a lot better than my records. I like singing live a lot, I like the audience a lot, it's kind of a very intimate experience. I like it when my audience are enthusiastic. I think my crowds tend to be very polite, and they don't... they're afraid to clap loud or... but I like it when they do so. [SN]: Well, you heard her. Fans of Jewel, you'll be in for a real treat from this rare gem. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Mar 1999 20:39:31 +0200 From: Koos van Zyl Subject: Jewel Lyrics Hi EDA's! I've got the Jewel lyrics archive in zip format if anyone wants it. I don't know if it the lyrics to all her songs though...at the moment I have lyrics to 109 songs (or maybe some of them are poems?). Anyway, each song's lyrics is in a seperate text file, all in the same folder. I made all the titles lowercase and removed spaces and special characters cos sometime in the future I want to publish my entire lyrics archive on the Net (I've got over 500 lyrics. Not too much I know, but I'm working on it!). For instance, Who Will Save Your Soul will be whowillsaveyoursoul.txt. Anyway, if anyone want the zip file (78KB), drop me an e-mail! Oh, and if anyone has any lyrics of any artists, could you please send them to me? It'll help expand my databse a little faster....:-). Till later! The interview was done the afternoon before her concert in Sydney, Australia I believe and shots of her singing were shown. I can't see whether it was the concert itself or the sound test. Interviewer: People from different cultures will listen to this song (Hands), but no matter what languages they speak, what is the one thing you hope they'll get? But some of the people that I talked to think that being a fan is buying ALL the CD’s ALL things that you can find. But I don’t think that’s what an fan because if that’s what one is I guess I’m not because I’m never going to be able to buy all her things and I don’t think I’m going to be able to go to any of her concerts. Jewel is my inspiration she my big sister she’s someone who has been through what I have and more she keeps me going everyday she showed no matter how bad it gets it’s going to get better, it has to right?? I’ve talked to some people on this list and they have told me how people tell them that they look like Jewel they act like Jewel (I really don’t think that a complement but hey whatever) Jewel has said that she does not want to be idolized who wants to be like someone else anyway?? Your not going to be the next Jewel, but if that’s what you think and that keeps you going that’s great live your life be copying someone else!! I guess I wanted to tell you guys to stop it you guys are all fighting over nothing, that’s what it is it’s nothing their are sooooo many bigger moreimportant problems in the world then "the list is being monitored" or "oh no Jewel changed" SO WHAT???? I’ve never told anyone this before but I’m going to tell you guys I tryed to kill myself because my parents were always fighting and it was like I was not their and I couldn’t take it anymore. I had the POY CD for a few weeks so I put it on as high as I could so I could not here then and I never really lessened to it so I sat down and she was talking to me she was talking about my life. I thought about doing this weeks before I was so sure that I was going to do it but just the things that she said changed my mind and I love her because of that she saved my life and I will for ever be greatful. Jewel holds so much power in her hands I hope she knows that. I’ve meet some really nice people on this list and I would e-mail you all personally but I don’t have all your e-mail address, well my dad’s been talking about us moving to live with my uncle on his farm around the 4th of next month ;( I just wanted to say Good-bye. Mike Thank you Sooooooo much for everything. I’ve been playing the guitar on and off for 8 years and I don’t know how to read the notes that are numbers like this - ------1------ or something like that if you do could you e-mail me and try to tell me thanks!! Does anyone know precisely where in Munich the Jewel concert of the 29th May 1999 will be held? Also where can the tickets be purchased? (I live in England, so the source would preferably be online.) The reason for my interest is that I am a final year student in Manchester and my first exam is on the day after Jewel plays Manchester. :-( I am therefore planning to go and catch the show at one of her European venues, after my exams are over 19th (May). I am hoping to catch a the show at the smallest venue/best atmosphere if possible. Any suggestions? Also, Munich (my current preference) seems to be cheap to get to and cheap to stay at. Would people agree/disagree with this statement? Again, any suggestions gratefully received. eg cheap hotels etc... Also, as I may be in the states this summer can anyone tell me when the US tour dates are to be released?
