On Steve Poltz's promo ep "Conversations over a Cerveza" I think I remember him introducing "I Thought I Saw You Last Night" about his friend passing away. So I was wondering, is Steve the friend she wrote "Jessica" for?>> As was recently pointed out, "Jessica" was written for a friend of Jewel's who's best friend (not girlfriend as I mistakenly wrote before) was killed in an automobile accident. That friend was a soundman in Toronto at the time she wrote it (March 1995). "I Thought I Saw You Last Night" was actually written before "Jessica" even though it didn't surface much until 1997, when Steve Poltz began recording his album. It was written late 1994 after the death of an actor (that Steve admired) named John Lentz. Can someone please tell me where i can find these songs and any other songs that aren't on Pieces Of You or Spirit... I keep hearing about about them and I feel deprived!!! I don't have any of Jewel's singles so perhaps I can find them on those maybe? Oh yeah and does anyone in Melbourne Australia know where I can buy bootlegs? I've never gotten any before... are they available in bootleg shops or something or are they usually only available via internet or ordering or whatever? Also I've heard from a friend that Jewel took only 2 singing lessons in her life and she hated them and quit but didn't she get a scholarship to some fine arts academy? Surely she would have had tons of singing lessons there... I also remember hearing that after listening to Ella Fitzgerald on CD (I think it was ella anyway) Jewel decided that she wanted to refine and train her voice so surely this story about her hating singing lessons must be false??! Anyway I'm off bye all! luv Chris ****************************** ************************************* "I wander aimlessly through a valley where sunspilled daisies know the scent of human despair well enough to claim it whilst angels stained with the droplets of innocence's ignorance tip toe gently upon dead flower petals hoping to bring them back to life" ****************************** ************************************* ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 7 Mar 1999 23:27:55 EST From: ABershaw@aol.com Subject: Re: Spirit songbook ? (for the overseas EDAs, this is a United States late night talk show program) As usual, please check your local listings in other US timezones. It does not tell which appearance it will be. (the first time she was on it wasn't with Tom, he had a guest host that night.....Jon Stewart I believe....her second appearance was with Tom as host) Mike :-) * If you are new to the Jewel list and need a helping hand, * or have a burning question about Jewel and/or the list, * The Jewel/EveryDay Angels List Homepage & Guide is at: * http://www.spectra.net/~ducksoup * Many basic/common Jewel and list questions can be answered there :-) * * Need some Angelfood? After I rewatched it, I know i am right. Did anyone else notice this: When Jewel sang Jupiter, on the 1st line "Venus Dermilo in her half baked shell" well point: did anyone else notice she gave Steve an odd look as she said half baked shell??? I thought that was so cool. Well here is why I think she did it. ANd I might be right, but I might be wrong, so anyone who has any other info it would be apprieciated. Well here is why I think she did it. We all know of the Mexico trip and how Steve gladly took t he weed, and I don't think Jewel smokes it or does any drugs and I think she gave Steve that look because he does weed and gets "baked" I think that is why and if it is way to go Jewel. I like it when people try to help out their friends. So do any of you know what I am talking about. I know I kinda rambled, and I am sorry for that. Do any of you think she wrote that line for him? Maybe who knows Well that is my thoughts Love, Teresa PS The concert Rocked, but it would have been nicer if she didn't play so many songs from POY. But I understand how that works. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 9 Mar 1999 08:02:05 +1100 From: "Tim Propert" Subject: Jewel on Sydney Radio Attention all Sydney EDAs: Jewel will be dropping by the studio at MIX 106.5 this afternoon (Tuesday 9th) around 4pm. Hi there, I'm relatively new to the list (wel this time, i was on it about 2 years ago) and i'd just like to say a few things about the Perth WA concert abnout a week ago. i realise you guys have probably heard HEAPS about all the concerts by now but i have to say my feelings were..well..mixed. Now dont get me wrong, Im as fanatical about Jewel as the next EA but ..i dunno..it just wasnt right. My attitude was all wrong i guess..firstly she was platying at the burswood theatre which is only the most expensive place in town, i had imagined jewel would be in a quiet little night club setting (which she would have been if she had toured last year like she told us Australians that she would.sigh) and i think this was a big factor for me. I got there and there were hundreds of people, half of which probably didnt know anything about her at all..i know its a bit snooty but i resent people going to concerts who arent absolutely obsessed with the artist.. anyway..She came on and everything was great she played near yuo always which was great and then the band came on to play deep water..which was great! Brilliant stuff. (note-my memorys not the best ..please forgive any errors) Oh good, i say to myself, now she'll start talking. but she didnt. she played another song. Which was great. No talking. another song. good. no talking. you get the idea, she polayed about 5 - 6 songs before saying a word. I was crushed! I have quite a few concerts on tape and she babbles non-stop all the way through! This wasnt the jewel i've been listening to! Plus the crowd was very unresponsive! So much so that the first words that came oout of her mouth were "You guys are so quiet, im beginning to think you dont like me!" ARGH!!! However when the band went off it was bliss...just jewel and me..nice and intimate like i was expecting (although she didnt play marital carnival when i hollered it out and went for dont instead! (and they were the only two suggestions!!))and this lasted for about three songs then back with the band again. Now dont get me wrong i looooove the songs and when you get down to it i went to hear her sing, not talk, but the audience connection just wasnt there i felt. I thought she looked uncomfortable and not in the best of moods (although someone has prob already said she looked fine). A review of the concert said she should learn some lessons from Steve (who was great mind you, oh- love the star wars song!) but i feel shes easily his equal in terms of audience interaction. The final knife to my heart was when the crowd started leaving before her final encore. I felt like jumping up and screaming, "No! Dont deprive me of my chime bells! Please!!!" the claps were dwindling, people were getting out of their chairs, but luckily about a quarter of the crowd kept clapping and eventually she cam back on. Phew. Anyway i've rambled on enough. Sorry about that. Trust me i could go on for a lot longer. Me. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 08 Mar 1999 17:33:30 -0800 From: Michael Carmona Subject: Biorhythms & Wallmart Hello EDAs, Just wanted to say I feel that the Biorhythms footage of Jewel was the best I've seen.
