So what do you guys think? >> I think it was just a nice gesture, a way for Jewel to give her mother some publicity. Sure, she wasn't lead vocals (Jewel, I mean), but it was a hidden track (even though it is listed on the side of the CD if you look closely) and it wasn't meant to be part of the journey of "Spirit". - -- Mark ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 26 Feb 1999 10:40:03 -0600 (CST) From: Lara Jean Ruth Subject: a piano chord site > If any of you have Piano Chords of Jewel songs, please send it to me. I have a few things to share and a few questions to ask. Firstly, for all the Australian EDAs, the Rolling Stone with Jewel on the cover has the EXACT same article as the one in the US version (i.e. same headings, layout, photos etc.). Interestingly enough, the cover photo isn't the same - the Aussie cover is the same cover as Jewel's first US Rolling Stone cover. Second, as I am not lucky enough to have cable, I would like to ask if there are any Aussie EDAs who DO have cable who could possibly provide me with a tape of the "Jewel Day" special on MTV next month (I forgot whether it's on Optus or Foxtel). Of course, I would supply the tape and pay for any other expenses. Thanks in advance :) Finally, I think I was actually the very first to purchase tickets to Jewel's last Sydney concert (None of the seats were sold yet!). I got front row seats directly in line with the center of the stage, and because of this, I believe this is a brilliant opportunity to produce some new AngelFood. I could bring along my Walkman and do my best to get a quality reproduction, but I would really appreciate some advice on how to get the best sounding recording. If any other EDAs are going to the March 13th concert, please contact me and maybe we could get a small gathering happening. P.S. I am also trying to expand my collection of AngelFood, so if anyone would care to help me out, I would be VERY grateful! I have a grand total of 1 tape to swap!! *****The Angel Who Is Learning How To Fly***** ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 26 Feb 1999 18:08:09 -0500 From: Mike Connell Subject: SNL sketch parodying Jewel to re-air on Comedy Central March 10th Hi folks :-) Well, it is kind of Jewel content.....maybe.....hopefully..... On Wednesday March 10th at 11:00am and 6:00pm Eastern US time, the cable TV network Comedy Central will be repeating an episode of Saturday Night Live that had a sketch that parodied Jewel. Since the original shows air over a 90 minute time slot and the Comedy Central reruns are trimmed to an hour, the whole episode obviously will not be shown, although a major portion of it will be as Comedy Central has less commercials per hour than Saturday Night Live does. So it is anyones' guess as to whether or not the sketch about Jewel will actually be in this rerun. Anyway, the episode originally aired on Saturday November 8th, 1997 and Jon Lovitz was the host and was in the sketch. I myself missed it when it aired and it never did repeat in the Saturday Night Live time slot, and I have no idea if Comedy Central ever aired it before. Just a warning though.....it pokes fun at Jewel the way Saturday Night Live pokes fun at a lot of celebrities....it exaggerates them, so to speak. I just read the list archives from the day after this show originally aired and while many of the EDAs were upset at the way it poked at Jewel....many laughed a lot, taking it all with a grain of salt, understanding that it is the nature of comedy. After all, a major category of comedy IS satire. So, for those of us that missed it 15 months ago, here is our chance. For those that have no clue as to what the sketch was about, and for those that have since forgotten, I will not post details about the sketch....it will be more fun watching it not knowing. I will post a reminder about this the day before it airs. Enjoying the posted reviews of Jewel's concerts down under, Mike :-) P.S. It is REALLY kewel reading Jewel concert reviews again! It's been so long........heck, her last *solo* tour of any meaning was two years ago right now. - - * If you are new to the Jewel list and need a helping hand, * or have a burning question about Jewel and/or the list, * The Jewel/EveryDay Angels List Homepage & Guide is at: * http://www.spectra.net/~ducksoup * Many basic/common Jewel and list questions can be answered there :-) * * If you can't find the answer on the page have any list related * questions, please feel free to email me at ducksoup@spectra.net * or you can IM me on either of the AOL names below: * DuckOfPrey or WhyADuck55 and/on AOL or AOL Instant Messenger ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 26 Feb 1999 20:59:39 -0000 From: "Chris Groves" Subject: Jewel in Q The following is from the April 99 edition of the UK music magazine Q. - ------------------------------------------------ Who Needs Ted Hughes? When a ropey pop star poetry book sells two - yes, that's right - two million copies. A Night Without Armor, Jewel's book of poetry, has now sold over two million copies in United States. According to the preface, the Alaskan-born singer "explores the fire of first love, the fading of passion, the giving of trust, the lessons of betrayal and the healing of intimacy" in the book. A sample poem is A Couple Sitting On A Beach which consists of four simple lines: "He's the skinny one of the two/He reminds her of it constantly/He's a very funny guy that way/Ha-ha as she wobbles-to-walk wobbles-to-walk." A Night Without Armor is published by Harper Collins in the UK in May. I want to know the Jewel you know through her live recordings, especially because I know I'm probably never going to see her live. (I'm Finnish, in case you don't remember. And I'm the only EDA here at least according to the age/locale survey, and Jewel fans are very rare here anyway so I don't think she'll be coming here anytime soon...) Anyway, I'm mostly looking for audio tapes (and I'm willing to send you a blank tape), but a full concert (maybe Jewelstock) on a video tape would be nice, too. Those of you who have already offered to do this, tell me what you have (thank you Jason and Cris!). I would also love to know what Jewel looks like right now - we don't get Letterman here, darnit - so if you know where on the net I could find screenshots from that show, please let me know! Why would atlantic just go and decide to release this in a place where Jewel wasn't even that popular? Just curious, I'd love to hear anyones' opinion. My friend Natalie and I have Rocker Girl as our fave song to sing randomly in public, because nobody knows where it's from, and nobody believes that it's a Jewel song. Anyways, it's become sort of our inside joke and I was wondering if any angels out there knew how to play it on guitar, and was willing to make a recording of their playing as a wav or an audio file or something and send it me, because Natalie and I are always making up new words for it, and it would be nice to have some background music :) Right now, the words of the moment are about lacrosse...."be his lacrosse girl..." :) It's cool. Hi all, As many of you are already well aware, the past two years of Living Room Tour "house concerts" have been quite an experience featuring an ever growing list of talent. Thankfully, other lists such as Ecto are also "LRT active" now and hosting intimate concerts at subscribers homes. It's a GREAT THING & I hope the LRT concept spreads everywhere eventually. Several EDAs wrote me recently asking if anything is planned for summer 1999 regarding the LRT. At the moment nothing is in progress but I'd sure like to see it happen again. We have a nice little NorthEastern USA EDA host network now, so thats handy. While I was in San Diego last week, I mentioned the LRT to local favorites Gregory Page & Frank Lee Drennen (aka The Hatchet Brothers). They seemed open to the idea so thats a possibility. Now onto the reason I'm actually writing. A wonderful piece of the Living Room Tour has just been officially released on CD by Griffith Park Records in the form of Cindy Lee Berryhill's new album titled "Living Room 16". Titled as such as it was the 16th gig on the now legendary LRT recorded in San Francisco on January 17th, 1998. This particular gig was notable as it was a one off duo gig where CLB was augmented by the incredible "Garage Orchestra" album cellist Renata Bratt. The CD features 11 live tracks including several new CLB tunes along with extended spontaneous versions of older material including an almost 11 minute long "UFO Suite"! The music is inspired & the recording captures the living room ambience. It was recorded by strategically placing microphones around the room as well as on the musicians direct to ADAT (8 track digital) & remixed to stereo. I should also mention that the liner notes recognize the Jewel, Ecto & Audities lists as the inspiration behind this touring concept & album. The CD will soon be available in some US stores & will also have European distribution in stores, but why wait? There are currently 500 autographed & numbered limited edition copies available directly from the following webpage on CLB's website: http://www.twomp.com/livingroom16/ There's online ordering information (& more info in general) there. Also check out CLB's Tearaway Page at: http://www.mwpsoft.com/clb/index.htm If you're a CLB fan already, you'll love this CD & if you're curious what the LRT's were like, here's a wonderful opportunity to experience it vicariously through the music & hilarity digitally captured on "Living Room 16". This and Joy Eden Harrison's new CD "Unspoken" (which CLB produced by the way) are on heavy rotation here! My next post will be about Joy's CD ordering info & current tour of the SouthWest USA. I highly recommend checking into both these artists if youre not already hip to them. Both are creating wonderfully unique totally infectious music & are well worth your attention. MrBB ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 26 Feb 1999 20:59:36 EST From: ABershaw@aol.com Subject: MrBB-Jewel at Lilith 99?/Joy Eden Harrison "Unspoken"! Hi again, First a quick Jewel clarification & then onto some interesting info! Many seem to be under the impression that Jewel is doing the Lilith Fair this year & are writing Mike & I about it. I've no idea where this report is coming from but no, Jewel is NOT scheduled for any Lilith Fair dates. If that changes for any reason, I'll let you know, but she'll be busy on her own tour of North America all summer & that will not change. :-) Now, the Joy Eden Harrison info I promised earlier! What's new with Joy Eden Harrison? Everything! I know many of you loved Joy's "Living Room Tour 98" gigs. Many other EDAs are familiar with her from her first album "Angel Town" & the EDA list tapes "Innerchange Days 2" and "Future Folklore 3". 'Unspoken' is Joy's long awaited second CD released on Astarte Records. Building on her first album, Joy's orginal take on vintage '30's jazz, "Unspoken" features a far greater range of musical expression and texture. Staying true to her Jazz roots but blending some pop overtones into the mix has really allowed Joy to take a giant leap forward in my opinion. These new recordings have captivated my attention for months now & continue to fascinate me after many repeated listenings. It's by far my favorite release so far this year & has the kind of depth that I know I'll still enjoy many years from now. But don't take my word for it. Go to www.joyedenharrison.com & listen to some of it for yourself! How you ask? The new album can be found, sampled, and advance purchased off her website at www.joyedenharrison.com. Joy is also touring the country with CD Release concerts throughout the year so keep checking back at her website for new tour dates. She's now on the west coast & will be performing quite a bit. The current tour scedule includes several California shows with the studio band in March & a Living Room gig is scheduled for Phoenix. On March 13th, Java Joe's in San Diego will host Joy's "official release day" concert. Joy's current schedule follows below. Check out these shows! You can thank me later. ;-) Also, you can join a news-only list for Joy at NewsJEH@aol.com. This list sends out updates every two weeks including new tour dates, radio shows interviews, and articles.
