Find out everything you wanted to know about Jewel in 'FANATIC', where she is interviewed by a fan. 'COLLECTIONS' features Jewels best videos. In 'JEWEL TV' she stops by the Mtv New York studios for a performance and talks to fans about her new album Spirit, which follows the eight million (I thought it was ten) selling album Peices of You. I've just recently joined the list so I'm unsure on whether or not somebody has already mentioned the idea of the people that will be going to the Brisbane concert to meet beforehand. If anyone has any ideas on what to do, because I have none whatsoever, don't hesitate to reply and maybe we could all work something out :) Bye for now.... So, is there any UK EDA who can tell me if there are still tickets for these concerts? If the answer is yes, can you give me some info on where to buy them (any webpage?) or how much they cost? Note that I need to make a decision in two days, so very quick answers will be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Well I have recieved lots of designs for the t-shirt and that is great. They are all up on my page and ready to be voted on. Go here to Vote http://expert.cc.purdue.edu/~shortdog/Jewel/jewelindex.html that is my web page. Just click on the T-shirt Ideas link in the menu and place your vote: Read the comments that i put next to each design and make your choices. The choices will be sent to me via e-mail and I will keep track of who votes. So no voting more than once. I will let you change your vote if you send me an email saying you want to do so. If for any reason you can not access my site then there are a few possibilities as to why that may happen: 1) my page is run on my School server at Purdue University which may be down at the moment, but will never be down for more than an hour, if it is i would let everyone know immediately. 2) Lots of you will be accessing the page so the server may slow down a bit. Keep in mind there are lots of designs, so it will take a while for all of them to load. so if you have any problems email me and we will work out a way for you to see all the designs and "Rock The Vote" :) Thanks Everyone, Rich "Jewels EDA" Long ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Feb 1999 15:05:36 EST From: Bino63@aol.com Subject: Our Poetry I had this crazy idea to collect everyone's favorite poems...... whether it be one you wrote,,,,, one by Jewel .... or even anyone else........I love poetry and that is one of the main reasons I am a huge fan of JEwel. Maybe I misunderstood you? OK, I know this post is gonna be kinda controversial but first of all I want to make it clear that I am IN NO WAY homophobic so I'm not gay-bashing or anything (or even Jewel-bashing for that matter!!!) :-) this is something I never really wanted to bring up on the list (especially being a hetero guy who admires Jewel for her physical qualities as well as her musical ones) but for a while I've had the feeling she may in fact be bisexual or lesbian, not that it's really any of my business, but there are several reasons for this: 1) the song "Dance Between Two Women"... yeah, I know it's a different kind of love she's singing about but I'm sure there's more to it than meets the eye... ummmmm... ear... especially considering the fact it was recorded for the "Knock Out 2" CD which was a giveaway for a "gay" magazine... 2) the over-use of the word "breast" in her poetry and a few of her songs... she seems to have an obsession with the word... 3) the fact that so many of her songs are about females (e.g. "Jessica", "Emily", "501 Beauty Queen", "Last Dance Rodeo", "She Cries", "Partial To Mary", "Louisa & Her Blue Guitar", "See Sassy", "Silver Satin Wings"...) and that so many of her songs portray males in a negative light (e.g. "His Pleasure Is My Pain", "Kiss Your Ass", "Race Car Driver", "God's Gift To Women", "Daddy"...) 4) she doesn't often co-perform songs with other artists (well, other that Steve Poltz, anyway!!!) but some of her more well-known collaborations have been with Melissa Etheridge & the Indigo Girls, both acts well-known for their lesbianism... 5) here's one I bet most of you never picked up on - at the end of "Sunshine Superman" where she is ad-libbing she actually sings "come on baby, come on baby, come on girl"... and no, Donovan never sang this part in his original version so that has nothing to do with it... anyway, as I said before, whatever her sexuality I don't think it's really any of our business to discuss, I'm merely just pointing out things I've noticed about her... whether she is hetero, homo or bi it doesn't change my opinion of who she is and how incredibly talented she is... :-) Kim Lees Your New Zealand Angel Standing By ICQ# 9270797 - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ check out Kim's JEWEL Shrine... http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Stadium/7485/jewel.html includes a Real Audio section of over 100 songs - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Cause being in love just means calling places When you can’t afford the bill" Jewel Kilcher - "Tiny Love Spaces" ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 24 Feb 1999 12:29:28 From: Colin Brown Subject: Debate on Jewel's young audience! I won't charge for the tapes or the postage. If you want (we can talk about it) you could feel free to send me anything in return, be it something from other artists, anything jewel related, etc.. If you just want the tapes, that's fine too! Seeing as how I'm preparing for midterms, I only can only send out probably to one or two people, so if you're interested, let me know ASAP, ok? SO WHAT!!!! That's what she is!!! I mean, I used to listen to Melissa Etheridge and loved her music. I didn't know she was a lesbian at the time. I'm personally against that, but after finding out she was gay, I still listened to her music and her sexuality was not evident in the lyrics at all. Therefore, I wasn't offended. To the EDA that wrote something to the effect that it would be hard to listen to Jewel's music now becuase it's based on heterosexuality.... Jewel's lyrics aren't all that evident of her sexuality. I don't think love songs are written to promote gayness or straightness. They are just about love. So why take offense...she's not gay bashing or anything. She's just singing about love as she knows it. (I hope this doesn't stir up a big controversy) Thanks for reading, Sue **the God loving angel** aka **the angel who talks too much** (right Hila?) ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V4 #86 **************************
