That is why I don't let these things get to me, and basically find them funny. And sometimes people are jealous, not really jealous, but they can't stand to see others be successful. And a lot of people are probably just cynical about her positive outlook on things. Don't let critism get you down...unless what is being criticized is deservant of it :) kevin <>< ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 19 Feb 1999 17:24:29 EST From: STAC5984@aol.com Subject: Re: David Letterman In a message dated 2/19/99 6:03:37 AM Eastern Standard Time, Spirit828@aol.com writes: << has anyone figured out why David Letterman doesn't interview Jewel when she's on his show? >> It may just be a lack of time; or he may still be upset that she said he looked like a donkey; or it could be that....didn't I here somewhere that clebrities and musicians are paid to be on shows like letterman. So much $ for a song, and more for an interview. Is that true? I think it is, but I would much rather think that they are doing it to promote their new album/movie than for $ purposes. Did anyone notice that after jewel finished her song, Dave went and started shaking the bands hands, it went to commercial before I saw him shake Jewel's hand...I'm sure he did, but it just looked funny, like he was mad at her for the donkey comment :) kevin ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 19 Feb 1999 12:46:02 -0600 From: Rowdy A White Subject: Jewel song: I Don't Care (?) Hey EDA's, I was wondering if anyone had the words to "I Don't Care" . I am not sure if I have the correct title. I would look on the net myself, but I am using Juno (which bites) So I have no internet access.. The first verse is something like: "Goodbye baby, I don't think I'll be seeing you again Goodbye baby, we'll say that we'll still be friends even though I know i love nobody else, even though i know I'll say to myself, this time I'm leaving,I know we're through and I don't love you and i just don't care.." Anyone have all the lyrics? thanks, take care of each other, Rowdy "I am who I am... Hola a todos, just a few things about Jewel concert for Spanish TV. As in the WEB page were I saw that she recorded a 30 minutes show, in the aired show you could read on the screen that her name is JEWELL, and that the last song that she played was DOWN SO LONE (of course it is not a new song, is Down So Long). (Jewel popularity in Spain). This is not an unusual mistake here in press or TV. The band was formed by Steve Poltz, always with acoustic guitar (moving all the time back and front but in the same place), a bass player, a drummer (It's very funny to see his face expressions while he play), an electric guitar, a synthesiser, and of course Jewel that played an electric guitar in some songs, one of those was Hands. It seems like the show didn't finish in Down So Long. The band stayed in the stage for a few minutes and when the broadcast finished, they still were there. So... The same day they did another concert in Madrid. A short cut of it was aired in Lo * Plus during her interview the day after. saludos desde las Islas Canarias. Hi All, Well, well, well, I am in a state of confusion!!! A few angels out there have expressed their opinions on the latest Letterman appearance. I disagree with a few of them. Yea, I was dissapointed she wasn't interviewed (but I must say I knew she wasn't going to be interviewed. I learned that lesson last time she was on Letterman). I don't think Jewel looked all that great. Her hair was OK, but I thought her attire was a little tacky (blah, blah, blah, I know "I thought we were so much better than that. Why do we criticize her appearance??? Sorry, it was the first thing I noticed upon her "strutting her stuff" onto the stage). And what ever happened to "stick-figure" Jewel, the Jewel we saw entertain on Hardrock Live (I know that was a long time ago....)? I loved almost every aspect of the way she sang "Down So Long." The music sometimes drowned her lovely, little, whiney voice out. Oh yeah, I was extremely dissapointed she altered her little scat ending "A doot doo doot, a doot doo doot, a dada lada da, adoodly dot dot doodly dot...(sorry, it's hard to write that suff down!)" do her mini-orgasim onstage. My parents and family already refer to her as "The Cat in Heat" because they dislike her high ocatve songs "angelstandingby" and "all the animals." So this only gave them more ammunition to fire at me :). Ok, Ok, i'll shut up now.... ~Lee~ P.S. ALANIS IS COMING TO EL PASOO!!!!! WOOWHOO!!!!! ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 19 Feb 1999 20:59:33 EST From: Nubbay@aol.com Subject: lifes a great big mystery show Does Anyone Have The Tabs For "Lifes A Great Big Mystery Show" ???? ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 19 Feb 1999 21:19:55 EST From: Sean35RL@aol.com Subject: The Joni Mitchell look on Letterman Like the long hair, though it is only superficial it gives Jewel a more folky/hippie look, kidna reminiscent of Joni Mitchell I think. Which is nice, she needs to regain some indie cred and legitimacy after "Hands" and the majority of reviews panning Spirit for its sappiness at points. As for her strutting onto stage with the guitar in hand, that's awesome and all, shows self-confidence, but someone recently posted that it was a little too cocky. This kinda thing isn't at all new though. She was doing it back in live shows since her first tour with a band in 96. If I looked like her I would swagger too. Musically the song came across a little rushed, not as good as the Conan performance. Still not a fan of her with that damn electric guitar but in general I don't have to many negatives about last night. The band is good, they can play. She fooled around with the vocal inflections at the end and the scat singing was something different. Hopefully the single does well when it eventually comes out, in terms of quality it is considerably better than her last 3 singles, should be her best, quality-wise if not sales wise, since Who Will Save Your Soul. And hopefully she releases some good B-sides a la Tori Amos. Would be nice to get a couple of different singles/EPs of Down So Long. later, Sean Hooks ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 19 Feb 1999 19:58:52 -0700 From: "WendPrud" Subject: Letterman Hey Angels. I loved the way jewel twisted her song on Letterman. I don't know about you guys but i loved the little oh, oh, oh thing she did near the end. Although, it did suck that she didn't get an interview I wish Letterman would get his head on straight. Well jus thought i would say something about it like the other thousand people did. - -Mike the nextdoor angel ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 19 Feb 1999 21:55:18 -0500 From: Paul Schreiber Subject: Re: My thoughts on Letterman+more >Is Jewel going to be performing with a band on this upcoming tour, or is it >going to be primarily Jewel and her guitar for her shows? Well, she *is* bringing a band with her. As for how much of her set will be solo, I don't think we can do anything but speculate. I'm hoping that each performance will have some solo acoustic bits.
