Have always heard about the EDA but had so manyt hings going on in my life didn't have time to join it. We'll, now things are settling down and to enjoy myself the first thing I did is join the list, fianlly! I am 23, and from NYC! I look forward to chatting with you all and keeping the discussions going! Thanks, Tom Montalto The Better late than never Angel ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Feb 1999 02:31:16 -0500 (EST) From: Joseph L Rospars Subject: why jk is in strip clubs if we work from the assumption that jewel's music is godlike and inspiring, as you said (and i agree with), then i think it's perfectly logical that she'd be playing in a strip club. if you think about it, where else is hope so lacking and passion (of the good kind... ) so rare? her music is probably used to give the place more of a human feel .. as opposed to its normal purely sexual nature. (it's interesting how the removal of one's clothes .. in essence becoming more natural .. has such unnatural, artificial overtones in society) anyway, it seems like the goal would be to add a sort of human-ness to the establishment .. something more real. you need beautiful girls, but a soft side, as well. well, she's a beautiful girl ... and who's got a softer side than jewel? she seems to fit perfectly to what they need in there. as i sit here writing, and a live version of ywmfm begins off the 'live on letterman' cd, it can be hoped that one or two of the folks in there, including the girls, should happen to catch a few words of a quite appropriate song .... 'who will save your soul?' perhaps some true passion might be found there after all .... all my best for a wonderful day, joey, the philosopher angel, i suppose .. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 10 Feb 1999 23:01:46 -0800 From: Michael Carmona Subject: BUTTERCUP TABS BY MIKE Hi Geetar playing angels! I just joined the list also so I thought I might as well introduce myself. I'm a 21 yr old male fan of Jewel. I first stumbled upon her CD (not really knowing of her music beforehand) at a record store where it was on a sampler. So, I listened to it and it sounded pretty good so I bought it. ever since, I've been hooked. I'd like to hear some of your opinions on this as well. But IMO, I think that Spirit shows great maturity and growth. I'm not saying that POY was not successful or anything, but I'm just saying that Spirit shows an extensive improvement, especially in voicing. I think her songwriting talent has not really improved or anything, only because I think that she's a natural at it and from the last album, there was not much need to improve. But then again, how do you really evaluate songwriting?! Personally, I like the new album a lot more. My fav song(s) is probably Innocence Maintained or Absence of Fear. I've never seen Jewel live (unfortunately). When she came to Lilith Toronto, I was not a big enough fan yet of hers, not to mention Sarah. Other artists I like: Sarah McLachlan, Chantal Kreviazuk, new Elton John stuff, Chicago, Shania Twain, Garth Brooks, Cher's new song Believe (its been in my head for days), Bryan Adams...(and the list keeps going). I also play guitar and love playing around with Jewel's stuff. The great thing about her songwriting is that it is inspiring to me in that its not using the most difficult of chords and keeps my hopes up that a good song does not necessarily have difficult chords. I've been starting to write a bit now... hope to talk to some of you soon Chris Chris Lam lam97@usa.net http://www.freeyellow.com/members2/cjklcorp/index.html ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Feb 1999 11:18:20 -0800 From: "Southern Students for Choice" Subject: NJC: Liz Phair list info littlesister111@hotmail.com posted on Wednesday, Feb 10th a request for info on Liz Phair lists. MacPhee" Subject: EW letters/ Atlantic records contest Hi all you EDA's, You might want to take a quick glance at the letters page in this weeks Entertainment Weekly. In it, they have a few letters in reply to their cover story on Jewel- not all nice ones either. ("I find her unbelievably childish"; "...Couldn't get over how conceited and full of herself she was." But not to worry, there are good ones as well, it's sort of split 50/50. I'll be happy to e-mail the responses to anybody who wants them, and maybe can't get EW, such as down under, Europe, Asia. Just e-mail me privately at amacphee@msn.com with the subject: EW letters, and tell me if you're able to receive italics and underling, or not. On a different subject, I don't know how may entered that Atlantic Records contribution contest, but I was wondering how many people would be interested in hearing the entries. Also, are there any EDA's out there from Ft. Lauderdale and Plantation, and any with epilepsy? Hi all!! I just finished watching Jewel on MuchMoreMusics Speakeasy. It was WONDERFUL! They talked about POY, Spirit, ANWA, and US! Jewel talked about how she really apreeciated her EDA's and she talked about Jewelstock and the FCS cd that was cancelled.she eventalked about the card we sent her last year! It was definatly the best interview ever! She talked about the dislexia and how she has troubles reading and stuff sometimes. Plus they showed all kinds of great clips. Even a few I've never seen befor. It had Jewel sitting on her guitar case, playing her guitar on the middle of a sidewalk, there was no one around and she was singing amen. It was so beautiful, it must have been at least 3-4 years ago. AND IT HAD STEVE! Steve was in it and it had him talking about how he met Jewel for about 5 minutes and then it showed them singing YWMFM together, and he had long hair! It was hilarious! :) This was the best Jewel thing thats been on TV for a LOOOONG time. So anyhow, I don't have much time right now, but I'm willing to make copys for a few EDA's. Especially newbies, this will definatly clear up some stuff for newbies. A lot of rumors are cleared up in this and it's just great. So I'll make 5 copies to the first five people who mail me. Cause I just really don't have much time on my hands. If your a newbie though, tell me and we will work something out. :) Greg ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Feb 1999 19:23:37 -0500 (EST) From: James McGarry Subject: Re: SPEAKEASY was awesome!!! Its from about 4 years ago, the scene you describe is from a NewMusic interview with Jewel, just around the time of the C'Est What gigs, but before the Bathurst St. Theatre gig. This scene takes place on Queen Street West, Toronto. She should be wearing a frilled beige suede leather jacket, and maybe jeans.
