And through this year I don't believe I have ever given a reason for listening to Jewel. Well, I hope to convey this to you in a way that is not sympathetic, or sad, but a way that gives reason to listen to Jewel. This is how I really started to listen to Jewel. I am 17. My father is somewhat of an alcoholic. When he starts to drink he takes all of his hardships out on me. I am the oldest child in my family and the only one that will stand up for myself. He used to get to me in a very deep way, making my soul very dark and my personality dropped. He put me in a suicidal mode. I felt that the only way out of my hardships with my family, friends, and school, would be to take my life out of this cruel world. At this point in time the song "Who Will Save Your Soul" was becoming big in my area. After hearing it a few times I bought the CD. I looked at it and found it to be just like any other CD that I owned. Possibly a little more to the side of light music, but it didn't seem to stand out at all. I listened to it a couple of times and then put it to the side, like all CD's after they get "old." I was listening to the top 40 count down and they were giving a little background on this artist called Jewel. He was talking about how she lived in Alaska, and then he said that she lived in her car for a period of time. "Living in her car?" I thought. I started looking up information on Jewel. I learned that she wrote her emotions down and sung what she felt. I picked up that CD again and listened to the words. Read the poetry in the booklet. I started feeling what she was writing and singing. I started making the best out of my life. Jewel's inspiration made me a better person, and I doubt I could live without her influence on my life. I doubt I would even be living without her influence. I started writing poetry and even tried to write music (but that was a mistake. I am not very talented in that area!) People often ask me why I like Jewel so much, and I just reply, "She is what turned the light on when it was dark." I tell them the story if they ask but for the most part they do not. This is why I listen to Jewel. She gives me the inspiration to make the world a better place. She taught me that even though I am just one person in the large world, I can make a difference. I hope that you too understand this. I just thought I'd voice my opinion on Jewel's spot on WorldBeat the other day! I thought it was so awesome! Jewel has such a magnificent mind and she has so many thoughts, that it's just so great to listen to her talk! And the clip they showed of her performing at the AIDS Benefit (I forget which song she did!?!) was so great! It's nice to see her with her guitar! Also, I was listening to my angelfood the other day and Foolish Games came up and Jewel played it on the guitar! It sounded so pretty! Was FG written on the guitar or the piano? And lastly, does anyone have a midi of Daddy? I always try to play it on the piano, but it sounds wrong! The article said: >New Management For Jewel > Jewel has a new manager. Nedra Carroll, mother of Jewel, tells Billboard >Bulletin that she has stepped back from managing the day-to-day operations >of the singer/songwriter in order to focus on "the longer-term development >of her career," including her published writings and acting projects. >Carroll says she will continue to be the primary liaison with Jewel's >label, Atlantic Records. A new manager, Julie Agrati, was brought > in Jan. 1. {snip} As is usual, with many news reports this is not entirely true and somewhat misleading. Not that I'm that tight with the Jewel camp, but when these posts came in mentioning that it all went down over three weeks ago (January 1st), I was kind of surprised I hadn't heard about it. So, naturally I asked if it were true. It turns out Lenedra is still Jewel's primary manager etc. Julie was brought in to assist in various day-to-day operations. (who knows, she may have some management-type title, but she's not the primary manager) It's no biggie really....usually management shuffles would not be much of a topic on a mailing list, but considering that many veteran list members have met and/or dealt with Lenedra on various occasions, I just figured they would want to know that she is still #1 on the J-team. It's from Maxim magazine, and while giving a caustic review they still managed to give it three stars out of five. "This 24-year-old from Bum Scratch, Alaska, is second only to Alanis Morissette in the 'unfeasibly large numbers of debut albums sold' stakes - - ten million and counting so far. Unlike Alanis, though, Jewel's second album follows faithfully the blueprint of her debut. She probably thinks the combination of from-the-heart vocals, acoustic guitar and soft rock arrangements is a soundtrack for '90s America. We at Maxim think she's just a better-looking Enya ( I agree with the better-looking bit, but my compatriot Enya produces elevator music- A). But - hey - much better looking." NH wrote: I am going to the concert at the Roytal Albert Hall and was wondering what size of audience to expect. I know that barely a handful of people turned up for some Jewel's gigs in the UK on her last tour and I'm now thinking that this may happen again. If anyone went to the Shepard's Bush Empire gig last time around waht was the size of the crowd like? The Albert Hall has a capacity of a few thousand so if ticket sales are like what happened last time, the concert might have a bit of an empty feeling. Judging from www.aloud.com, the London show seems to be selling particularly well, as its the 13th top seller on their top 20 list, with shows selling less last week already sold out. Finally, for those Irish and UK EDA's expecting the Jewel single out today, as was the initial date, it'll not be out until March, according to the official website.
