Hello all, Here's the scoop on the EDA "Been Down So Long" Video Script project. First, we'd like to thank everyone for your overwhelming interest & special thanks to all who participated in the contest by submitting scripts and/or volunteering to be panelists. We hope you all had a relatively fun time with this idea. The J-Team has decided to go in another direction with Jewel's next video but it was interesting to see how each of you interpreted Jewel's song. With a new direction in mind, they've chosen not to pick a #1 out of the 10 submitted EDA scripts. So....here's what we're going to do. The submitted 10 writers of the 10 scripts that the EDA panelists (with Mike's & my help at the end) narrowed down as "The Top 10", will ALL WIN A PAIR OF TICKETS TO THE 1999 JEWEL CONCERT OF THEIR CHOICE. :-) These 10 people have already been notified personally & will be instructed on how to request their tickets. Again, thank you to all who participated & congratulations to all 10 finalists! MrBB ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 30 Dec 1998 21:02:45 -0800 From: Dan Subject: Guitar Tabs? Hello Everyone! I was wondering if anyone has either Down So Long, or Jupiter guitar tabs? A friend asked me if I could find them for them. Also does anyone know anything about copyrights and music. I want to put some music on my website but I don't want to get in trouble like I did before. Please let me know. Most celebs won't touch Manson w\ a ten foot pole andMost of the others would just make a comment like fence sitter Carson Daly and say that Manson is cool, but not elaborate. She not only walks into contraversy, but runs to it, not caring what jerks like McAlester say. I hope one day he finds the serenity to not judge others because of his jaded, cynical way. I hope they sing Peices of You since that song is about prejudice. That would be such a trip. I have 2 questions First- my local radio station was doing a recap of the year, and when speaking about Fastball's song "The Way" they said that is Jewel in the beginning (when it sounds like someone is changing stations) and it says something like "They say that you'll notice." I didn't think it was. Any info on this Second - Does anyone have AOL Instant Messenger? You can find "buddies" by searching for email addresses, and just for fun, I searched for JewelJK@aol.com and it returned two nicknames. One of the people has been online a few times, and I think I have scared him/her off when inquiring why they listed their address as such -- just wondering if anyone knew anything about this or if it was an EDA. Thanks and again ~ all the best in the new year. jeremy falcone ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 31 Dec 1998 01:11:31 -0500 From: mp0820 Subject: I just wanted to know....... If anyone has tabs of any of Jewel's songs that are not on the first CD I really need them my gig is a little old and I need a new one, who ever helps me out should really feel good about them self because it's for a really good thing you would make alot of sick kids really happy. Truely? I mean I don't like him at all...but i would watch it and/or listen to it...no doubt, you know? Anyway, I also want to tell you guys that I got the songbook for Christmas..the one for SPIRIT, so, it's on the shelves and I got it at my cheesy local music shop so I'm sure you'll be able to find it...it's got cool stuff at the beginning too. BYE! - - Lindsey :) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 30 Dec 1998 22:03:25 PST From: "Karen Boysen" Subject: jewel a hypocrite? etc., etc., and probably etc. I've been on the list awhile and don't post often. I'm one of those people who sits back and lets the thread wear themselves out and don't say anything. However now I'd like to share my thoughts and opinions on recent topics. First of all regarding someone's post, sorry I don't remember who's, about Jewel becoming a hypocrite and using vulgar language and all that. I think what Jewel is trying to get across to fans, especially those that aren't EDA's about POY is that she is aware it wasn't a great album, and she was truly amazed it did as well as it did. She just doesn't want people to think that's all she's capable of producing as an artist. We've all gone through stages where we may love a song or type of music, or anything for awhile, and one day we're like "why the heck was I so obsessed with this?". That's what Jewel did, she looked back at her album and realized she had grown so much artistically that she felt that album didn't adequately portray her anymore. She's not calling it crap and trying to make us feel bad for liking it and buying it. As for the vulgar language, so what? Very few of us have been around Jewel on a daily basis to witness her vast knowledge of words, including bad words. I'm sure she says them in everyday use and would on tv, if it were permitted, it's just that magazines include all those words. Actually if you look at it like this, she's being herself, being honest, not being who everyone wants her to be, but who she wants to be. That's all for now. Feel free to reply as you wish. Karen We Are Everyday Angels - Jewel Kilcher ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 30 Dec 1998 22:14:55 PST From: "Karen Boysen" Subject: Jewel's changing image I'm back, I have to get it all out then I'll be silent for a long time again. I obtained both of the import singles for Hands and as I write this I'm listening to one of them. It of course has Hands on it and two other great songs which we all know and love, solo acoustic versions of Who Will Save Your Soul, and You Were Meant For Me. For those who haven't picked it up do so. These last two songs are astounding renditions of the old Jewel. However, this a startling contrast between the generously produced Hands and the others. I must say I love and miss the sounds of just Jewel and her guitar, yet as I listen to the whole thing over and over I realize it's the same old voice throughout. The same positive messages throughout as well. I must say it makes me sad to see Jewel so popular and changing her ways somewhat. On YWMFM you can tell Jewel is playing the guitar herself because there are endearing little mistakes in the playing that make me smile. In Vogue, they mentioned Jewel was probably the first folksinger to go onstage regularly in a miniskirt and 4 inch heels. In the day she did and still does only now there is one main difference, she is no longer a folksinger. While I miss the good old days, I must say I appreciate Jewel no less and don't criticize her for her decisions. If we'd all listen to POY and Spirit in succession we'd realize it's the same Jewel singing to us, with the same message coming from her heart. Who cares what the music around those messages sounds like or what she looks like when she delivers them? We of all people shouldn't. By the way, if I"m the only one forgive me, but I'm tired of skimming and deleting all the posts with the word Manson in them. Let's drop that one ok? I shall now retreat into my own little world once more. Karen We Are Everyday Angels - Jewel Kilcher ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 31 Dec 1998 01:25:25 EST From: Harrisbros@aol.com Subject: The Manson Family has Nothing on the Harris Family... ;-) While others debunk the report that one of Jewel's apparent musical faves once threw a doggie-dog to the crowd for nastiness of sorts, let me also clarify this misconception: The obscure rumor that Jewel once threw a Harris into the crowd under similar circumstances is definitely NOT true. I repeat, it is NOT true! I was there that night, and I JUMPED into the crowd before Jewel could take any such action! :-) I do recall Jewel once suggesting that EDAs subdue drunken noisy fellow concert goers with bats, however. Thank god she was just kidding as those squeaky little critters make a hell of a lot of noise when wildly flung about... ;-) Dennis (just a dope in the show) Harris **************************************** "Ahh, goddamn ye Harris Brothers!" -- Jewel, JewelStock Night #2 **************************************** ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 31 Dec 1998 01:43:22 -0500 From: Jonathan Robert Sager Subject: llyod I understand what you were saying about the way you feel because of the message that Jewel presents in her music. You have to realize that there are two people wrapped up in Jewel. The singer who sits in front of the microphone, and the young woman who goes home at night. As a writer/poet myself, i can understand where she comes from. You have your work that you've done in the past(Pieces of You), and then when you create something that comes so deep from within your heart, you look down upon what you did before. It's a learning experience, each new piece of work because she puts so much of heart into it that the work she creates is a reflection of the way she feels at a certain time. of course, i can understand how you could be upset, but you have to realize, music is what people make it. I like Jewel because of the way her music makes me feel, it makes me feel peaceful. Sure, she might say some rather "vulgar" words, but let me ask you something, aren't there different standards to different people of what vulgar is? vulgar to me is probably different than what it is to you. it's all a matter of opinion. if that's the way she talks away from the singing platform, then i'm of the opinioin to accept that as her way. that doesn't mean that i have to do it cause she does it. but you understand. and the manson thing, hey, if she wants to work with manson, that's her thing, i'm not of any mind to judge her...cause that's not my place to judge her, my place is to listen to her music and reflect.
