A dude named David Jordan (I *think* his last name was Jordan) from Maui was the first to suggest the term "Angelfood", way back in early November of 1996. Most of the Jewel tapes traded around on the list, and all of the treed tapes are not bootlegs by the true sense of the word. Back then, bootleg CDs of Jewel's music were surfacing more frequently, and people were starting to get confused as to what is what. (and likely still are). So, with most of the list back then being against bootleg CDs (some vehemently so), and true bootlegs in general (basically....unauthorized sales of authorized or unauthorized music of an artist), the term "Angelfood" was suggested by David and it caught on. So, since then the list has referred to the authorized and non-bootlegged recordings available on this list as angelfood. On a quite related subject, if you'd like to start on your collection of angelfood or perhaps get some more that you don't have yet, this lists' official Angelfood Bank is presently offering a number of tapes, and is gearing up to offer new titles soon (new to the bank.....previously treed tapes), and you can get all the information you need at http://www.angelfoodbank.org Don't worry. This is a totally legitimate organization...you WON'T get ripped off.....this Angelfood Bank was formed to get list members high quality dubs of some of the lists' most popular angelfood, and to provide a safe source for it where folks won't get ripped off :-) More information on the Angelfood Bank will be posted soon, when the new offerings are ready, or perhaps sooner :-) You can also get more information by emailing to: info@angelfoodbank.org Mike - Jewel list owner :-) ***** Davids' post (11/1/96): Technically speaking, I see nothing pirate or bootleg about our live tapes of Jewel since she supports,at least for now, audience recording. They should be known as (ED)Angelfood tapes, IMHO. :)> Aloha- David ***** * If you are new to the Jewel list and need a helping hand, * or have a burning question about Jewel and/or the list, * The Jewel/EveryDay Angels List Homepage & Guide is at: * http://www.spectra.net/~ducksoup * Many basic/common Jewel and list questions can be answered there :-) * * If you can't find the answer on the page have any list related * questions, please feel free to email me at ducksoup@spectra.net * or you can IM me on either of the AOL names below: * DuckOfPrey or WhyADuck55 on AOL or AOL Instant Messenger ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 12 Dec 1998 22:17:12 -0800 (PST) From: karl lannger Subject: Bitchy Jewel Dear EDA's, I alway's thought it was all about the music? Well, over two years ago I made a suggestion to this list, which I dubbed the Harris "Sit On It" Rule.... After you write a post (especially in response to something that really ticks you off), let it sit for 24 hours. Most of the time, you will never send it, as it will seem irrelevant or you may simply change your mind about what you wrote. That saves over 1500 people having to read your rantings, and the embarrassment of having to defend a rash statement you may not really have that much faith in anyway. Or you will realize the post is important, and may be able to add to its impact with another thought or two. Either way, you look much wiser. Just a thought. Dennis Harris BTW, I just deleted 54 UNSENT POSTS held since May of 1997. Aren't you glad I take my own advice? ;-) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 13 Dec 1998 02:04:37 -0500 (EST) From: James McGarry Subject: Re: Canadian EDA's: Jewel on Fashion Television On Sat, 12 Dec 1998 MelDerI@aol.com wrote: > This is for all Canadian EDA's who have access to City TV. Hmmm. You know guys, an internet mailing list is a very public thing. There could be just about anyone reading it -- including Jewel's management and others who have her ear. How would you feel if you had a group of fans who pronounce themselves "angels", then use such a unique forum to discuss the most petty of topics? Things like how you dress, if you were a sell-out and generally guessing what's going on in your head. I imagine it would begin to piss you off. Probably cause you to think a little less of these "angels", and maybe, just maybe begin to distance yourself from them. You want to be treated special? Act special. Do for others, and it will come around. Like all else, karma travels in circles. Jewel has repeatedly asked that we take care of one another, and even released an album promoting humanity. She will undoubtedly take much criticism for it. The important question is: what will it inspire you to do, or become? In past years, members of this list earned Jewel's respect and support through their thoughtful behavior and acts of kindness toward each other AND total strangers. Are you an EveryDay Angel in name only, or in how you act and what you accomplish? Wise up, guys. If you want to discuss Jewel's physical attributes, go to alt.fan.jewel in the newsgroups. Lots of shallow posts and crappy fake jpegs, but you might very well feel more at home there. And please take these television interviews with a grain of salt. Many of these clueless media "professionals" Jewel has to deal with could try the patience of a saint... (Just imagine the stupidest question someone could ask you, then imagine having to answer it almost daily for four years...) We have a performer with the guts and fortitude to release an album that explores humanity, and we're passing on a rare chance to open up and find a little sensitivity in a very cold world. I'm not saying that you should become some politically correct new-ager fawning over Jewel. If you do, I'll be the first to give you a hard time. I AM saying that we all need to realize what makes this list special, and enjoy it. Be human, be forgiving and become a little deeper. I've met over 800 EDAs since the spring of 1996, and have repeatedly been fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time to enjoy many milestones of Jewel's career. However, I remain on this list not for Jewel, but to promote the spirit of the EveryDay Angels... and to me, that means connecting with one another and growing as a human being. Jewel will do what it takes to effectively market herself. You, I or a sane person would do likewise! Hopefully, this will put Jewel in a position to creatively express herself the way she wants to. Maybe some of us will be happy, inspired, or amused by her efforts. Many of us will feel cheated because she doesn't meet our expectations. That's the breaks. If she has a bad day and doesn't shine as your beacon of hope, REFOCUS YOUR BEACON INWARD. Trust me, our individual lives are all full-blown three ring circuses -- and we each must take center ring as the star! Any less, and we are not living. I look forward to whatever country, jazz, polka or what-have-you music Jewel releases in the future. She has a beautiful voice, a talent for stringing words together and a personality that may inspire many in a largely soul-less society to take heart and dare to make a difference. Regardless of how Jewel dresses, what she says or what anyone thinks of her, I encourage all of you to let YOUR "hands manifest thought"... A little more advice: before attacking ANYONE, find out who the heck they really are, and what their motivation really is. Otherwise, you are likely to say something really stupid and hurtful. Alan Bershaw (aka MrBB) and Mike Connell (the big nut who manages this list) routinely bust their asses for everyone who received this post. Show some class and keep off their backs, okay? ;-) Dennis Harris, sans punch line... ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 13 Dec 1998 01:46:21 -0700 From: Jim Myers Subject: Bad Attitudes This is the first time that I have written in to this list, but I feel that I must say something at this point. I have learned in my lifetime that the best way to handle those people that insist upon bashing anything/everything they can find a forum for is to just ignore them. As with all SPAM, the only reason it exists is to elicit a response from the very people is it intended to offend. Those of us that are here because we are TRULY fans of Jewel would be far better off if we just IGNORED the posts of the few who have nothing good/constructive/appropriate to say. I believe that this approach will quickly result in such threads dying quickly. All people have a right to voice their opinions, but when they do so in a manner that is clearly meant to BAIT you, it is simply prudent to refuse to fall into their trap. Just like the bullies we dealt with in school, once they cease to get the attention they are craving from us, they will find other outlets for their anger. A week ago, I posted on the list, and told you all how upset I was, because a teacher of mine died from cancer. I had gotten over a hundred support letters. Everyone wanted to help, or talk, or whatever. I don't understand why some of us, for some reason, believe that Jewel is beyond that or something. Jewel is a human, like me and you, and she aches too. For a couple of days, I wouldn't even talk to people, that's how sad I was, And this was a teacher, not a GRANDFATHER for god's sake... Give her a break!!! If you are able to understand and support a fellow eda, and a fellow human being, there is no reason why you shouldn't be able to at least TRY to understand Jewel.
