The CD sucks. Jewel's performance is not stellar, either. I wish someone had warned her that it might make it to CD someday, so put a little more effort into it. :( However, the liner notes were interesting... it states that Jewel also performed the then-upcoming single YWMFM, and also used the radio station's facilities to record the Emily that appears as the B-side and on the soundtrack for "The Crossing Guard". I would not recommend buying this CD. I bought the first one as well, which isn't quite so bad, actually. I also just bought the Wizard of Oz: Dreams Come True - In Concert soundtrack (from the same company as the Naked discs - www.newbury.com - for like 13 bucks) and I love it. I've put in an order for the video now, but I know I'll be waiting a while. Also, while I'm at it, I just caught something that I missed before in the FAQ: * Jewel wrote "The Face of Love" for the new "Romeo & Juliet" film but was rejected. Bet the people in charge of that decision feel stupid now. And it's too bad for Jewel, because that soundtrack sound quite well, didn't it? That would have gotten her some more exposure at the time. _____________________________________________________________________ Jonathan Austin Maton icq:783470 University of North Florida University Web Master for Admissions, Enrollment Services, Honors, Continuing Education, Financial Aid, and the Registrar's Office And a HUGE fan of Led Zeppelin! ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 2 Dec 1998 13:00:56 -0800 (PST) From: Robin Skowronski Subject: Signed ANWA If anyone is looking for a signed copy of ANWA, please email me at desideratv@yahoo.com or msaski@aol.com. Well, I read a post recently & it sparked an idea. The post I read was by someone who said that if anyone needed to talk, they would always be there. So I thought, why don't we have a sort of "EDA support group". EDAs could volunteer to give support & be a friend to any other EDA who may need it. What do y'all think? This may be especially good for newbies, who don't know anyone on the list, & don't know how the list works, what we do here, etc. Let me know what you think of this idea! Firstly: Ticketmaster uses selected Target stores as an outlet (NSW I guess) I'm not sure if they will have the tickets as soon as they're available does anybody know? Secondly: Anybody in Sydney wanna get tickets together? or thinking of lining up? Thirdly: To the tassies, sorry this is not a dig at you, I'm trying to be impartial but... Remember when the Corrs Came down last Feb. You had a 9-10x platinum band that couldn't sell out a single show in Tas when they has sold out four (out of an original two, they would go on to sell out six) shows in Sydney. The promoter(s) [ Mr. Coppel again] was rumoured to be not to happy about this situation especially since it wasn't an isolated incident. Basically Tas's popl'n is too small in an age of economic rationalism for concerts (reason why the Corrs haven't come back although they sold out every show except the tassie ones, Australia is too small). Sorry, you have my sympathies, I just thought I'd try to explain why you ppl weren't getting the shows in the prelim info. All I can say is I hope you enjoy the ferry ride across the bass. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 2 Dec 1998 18:11:19 -0500 (EST) From: Santee Subject: POY vs Spirit Is there truly a need to compare the two?? One was written by a 19 year old girl about a wide range of subjects. Songs were realy not expected to have such a wide impact/ wide selling venue. Spirit was written by an elder, more mature young woman who had a specific theme in mind. Her coming of age has definitely shown up to be true. If she shows this type of style and a willingness to express it, then her next album(whenver tat comes out) will definitely be of interest. For me personally, while I do miss the lone wolf totally acoustic style of POY, I personally think that Spirit was a tad bit overproduced. While I cant place my finger on why, that is just IMHO. Though I do like the sound and the theme behind the album. Til next I come out of lurker status. Cyall later. I bet most people who voted that just wanted to look good, and aren't the type to go out and give money because of the EDAs or Jewel's inspiration. I do, however, think it would have been more reasonable if there was an option that said "I like what Jewel inspires in people and how she helps to spirtiualize list members and educate them on our world." Or something like "How Jewel helps people give back to the world." I think charity is a specific example and it needs to be broader because there is other way Jewel can inspire the people on this list to be better samaritans without necessarily giving up money. Does that make sense? - -- Mark ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 2 Dec 1998 18:17:42 EST From: MAXMOUZE@aol.com Subject: Re: Jewel on the Naked Too CD In a message dated 12/2/98 3:14:28 PM Pacific Standard Time, jmaton@unf.edu writes: << Bet the people in charge of that decision feel stupid now. Listen to "Kissing You" and tell me if you could have heard the acoustic, simple-minded "Face of Love" in its spot. It's too straightforward in lyrics and textures to fill the shoes of the romantic song of the movie. Actually it's not "romantic", it's just a song about love, so to speak. The thing is that the emotions are different this time. They are much broader and deeper then Poy. >> I think Spirit has a more professional sound, and is capable of producing more singles to be heard on the radio (without having to re-record them a.l.a. POY). However, POY is more intimate, each song has more emotion in it than in Spirit where songs like "Fat Boy" are sung without much emphasis being put onto what is being said, like it is with "Amen" or "Little Sister" or "Pieces of You" or "Adrian" or any song where Jewel sings with a touch of anger or sarcasm or disappointment. Spirit is more beautiful because it is not acoustic ("Absence of Fear" is playing right now) but POY is more beautiful on a less superficial level. Look at "Angel Standing By". Speaking of which, I was at Kmart yesterday and "Angel Standing By" played over the store. I was like "Wow, that's cool -- this song is being heard without me playing it". - -- Mark ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 02 Dec 1998 17:28:24 MST From: "Jessica Cormier" Subject: Regis and Kathy Lee Hi everyone Of course, I missed this show. I do believe that Hands was made into a pop type song, but it also carries a good message lyricaly. I love Spirit....my only complaint is that I can't wait for another album. My favorite songs are "Life Uncommon" "Barcelona" and "Absence Of Fear". Each carries a message that truely moves me. I love the line in "Life Uncommon" ...."No longer lend your strengths to that which you wish to be free from". The whole message of Absence of Fear brings me to tears because of my difficutly with of being afraid to let people close to me. Also, I am lurker but have been on the list for about 2 years and have really enjoyed it. I am going to go to South America the next 4 weeks to visit my family and I want to keep in touch with the EDA's and Jewel news but don't have time for a lot of messages. I was upstairs in my room a couple days ago and was listening to the Jewel Stock tapes. I listen to them quite often. Anyway, the tape was on the song "Nicotine Love".............all I could say was "WOW"!!!! I think that song is absolutely great! That was not the first time I had heard it, but I just for some reason, that day fell in love with it!!!! I love the way the song changes from soft, or smooth, on the guitar till when she gets on "Then I'll press you like petals, till your fragile and then.....". Then the guitar sounds more like "pluck, pluck, pluck" (not as smooth but still great!). I just love the transition. Also, the same thing happened to me with the song "Buttercup". It is amazing!!! I fell in love with it!!!!! And, if no one had taped Jewelstock we would have lost beautiful songs written by Jewel. She has so many that it is hard for her to keep up, it seems!! Just think, if no one taped the shows the songs we love would be forgotten to some, or thrown out the window!!!! So, my point is: 1.) Thanks to everyone who tapes the shows and passes the tapes along!!!! You literally have saved the music (lol "Vh1's save the music") and 2.) I have proven that songs you don't pay attention to or don't like, could end up being the songs you love! Of course, this does not pertain to every single person, but in most cases there is some truth to it. So, give songs a chance. One day, you just might be listening to the song and fall in love with it. Also, does anyone else love "Nicotine Love" and "Buttercup" as much as I do?? Please post or e-mail me! Responses are welcome. From, Rachel the ever hopeful angel ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V3 #676 ***************************
