Hi everyone =) I'm moving to California in 2 weeks, and I'll only be on the Jewel list until Thursday. Then I'll probably be off the list for a month or 2. This screenname however, stays in New Orleans, so I'll let you know who I am then. Everyone please take care of yourselves, and don't fight. =) So this is so long for now... A web site address for spirit tabs was posted a few days ago, but the file for Deep Water was a bit messed up. I've made up a new chord file for the song as it appears on the Spirit CD. It's an easy song to play, you should have no trouble at all. A couple quick notes: in the verses and outro, the "C" chords can also be played as a "C(add9)" chord, just play which ever one you think sounds better. I tried them both but each sounds pretty good. And also, when you play the "D" chords in the verses and chorus, throw in some Dsus2 and Dsus4 alterations to spiff it up a bit. It will sound more like the recording that way. fAnyways, here it is: - ----------------------------- DEEP WATER by Jewel Kilcher Intro: G Verse #1: C G G/F# Em When you find yourself falling down Am Am7 C D Your hopes in the sky but your heart like grape gum on the ground C G G/F# Em And you try to find yourself Am Am7 Cmaj7 C D In the abstractions of religion and the cruelty of everyone else C G G/F# Em And you wake up to realize Am Am7 C D Your standard of living somehow got stuck on survive Chorus #1: G G/F# Em When you're standing in deep water C D Bailing yourself out with a straw G G/F# Em And when you're drowning in deep water C D And you wake up making love to a wall G G/F# Em Well it's these little times that help to remind C D Em It's nothing without love Verse #2: C G G/F# Em You realize your only friend Am Am7 C D Has never been yourself or anyone who cared in the end C G G/F# Em That's when everything fades or falls away Am Am7 'Cause the chains which once held us Cmaj7 C D are only the chains which we've made Chorus #2: G G/F# Em And when you're standing in deep water C D And you're bailing yourself out with a straw G G/F# Em And when you're drowning in deep water C D And you wake up making love to a wall G G/F# Em Well it's these little times that help to remind C D G G/F# Em It's nothing without love love love C D Em It's nothing without love Bridge: Am G Am G We've compromised our pride and sacrificed our health Am C We must demand more not from each other Em D Dsus4 D But more from ourselves Chorus #3: G G/F# Em 'Cause when you're standing in deep water C D And you're bailing yourself out with a straw G G/F# Em And when you're drowning in deep water C D And you wake up making love to a wall G G/F# Em Well it's these little times could help to remind C D G G/F# Em It's nothing without love love love C D G G/F# Em It's nothing without looooooooooooove C D Em It's nothing without love Outro: G C Em Da dom dah da de dum G C Em Nothing without love, without love (la de dah) G C Em Nothing without love, without love (la de dah) . . . . . ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 1 Dec 1998 22:31:05 -0500 From: cmgordon2@juno.com (Courtney M Gordon) Subject: Jewel gone country Dear Angels, I think if Jewel decides to go country, then she can, even if she does lose a few fans here and there. Hell, as long as her voice stays the same and her lyrics still have depth, I'll buy it even if she's singing opera! (I just like talking to new people, making new friends, etc...) So, if ya wanna write, go for it, and if ya don't, that's cool too. Well, it really isn't that far fetched. Just because it's country doesn't mean it'll make you wanna put on the straw hat and start listening to TNN or whatever. If you think about it, a lot of Jewel's songs are somewhat country sounding. Take for example Carnivore, Last Dance Rodeo, Love me Just Leave me Alone, Boy Needs A Bike, Nicotine Love, Sometimes it be that Way, etc.. Granted, some moreso than others, but if you squint and concentrate while listening to even Boy Needs A Bike and Nicotine Love, they do have a little bit of country in them. I don't really think she meant die-hard country, if she was indeed being serious, but rather that familiar jewel country (upbeat!) we the EDA's already know in many of her unreleased songs. - -Rob Diehl diehlr@purdue.edu ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 1 Dec 1998 21:48:13 EST From: SfJeweljk@aol.com Subject: jewel on regis and kathie show thingy thing I HAD MY VCR SET BEFORE I WENT TO SCHOOL THINGING IT WAS THE 2ND I SET IT FOR THEM THEM WHEN I WENT TO SCHOOL I FOUND OUT IT WAS THE 1ST SO I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE HAD THE SHOW TAPED AND COULDS SEND ME A COPY I WILL PAY FOR EVERYTHING!!!!! While I still have not chosen all of the judges yet, it is now the time to start sending in your storylines/ideas :-) It's simple....just send in whatever you want. It can be short and basic, it can be quite extensive and detailed, or someplace inbetween. You can make a basic storyline, or you can plan out each scene/verse. It is totally up to you. After all, you are making a pitch here, you want to "sell" your idea to Jewel (and the judges of course). HOW TO ENTER: 1) Each entry must be sent to ME at ducksoup@spectra.net and have *only* the word VIDEO in the subject line. PLEASE do not send your idea/storyline to the list, nor to Alan. Send them directly to me :-) 2) There is a limit of ONE entry per person. 3) You CAN team up with any number of people, but that entry counts as the one and only entry for each and every person on your team. Someone cannot send in a private entry, and then another one as part of a team, nor be on more than one team. 4) Each *individual* entry must have your full name. 5) Each *team* entry must have the full name of EACH member. (It is up to you if you want to include each team member's email address, but it is probably a good idea to do so) 6) Each team entry should be sent in by the "team leader", who will be the contact person if for any reason we need some information. Please indicate in the entry which person is the team leader. (i.e. some email addresses, like AOL, don't have names in them) DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES: This has not been decided on yet. It WILL be either Friday evening or Saturday evening (eastern USA time). We will decide after we see how many entries are coming in. DEADLINE FOR JUDGES TO APPLY: Apply soon! I will be finalizing choices tomorrow evening at the latest. If you wish to be a judge, send me an email with only the word JUDGE in the subject line and in the body of your email include anything you would like to say to make your case :-) The chosen judges will notified tomorrow evening and will be placed on the EDA-Project list and I will start to send them the entries to that list tomorrow night or Thursday morning. (by the way, we've decided to go with 12 judges, just as we had in the 20Q project last summer) More information and instructions for the judges will be sent to them when they are notified that they have been chosen. (I do not know if I will have the time to notify those *not* chosen, as so far over 80 people have applied) Reminder: each chosen judge CAN submit a storyline/idea. Please note that each judge will be voting for a rather large number of ideas (10 to 20...it depends on how many storylines come in), and each vote counts as one point, so a judge voting for their own story really will have no influence on the final tallys, as we are sending the top ten vote-getters to Jewel for her to ponder over. About the judge applicants. As I said, there are over 80 of you. Many of you I have never heard of, many of you I know, many I know well enough that I would consider taking a bullet for (I would *consider* it, then I would likely move aside ;-) People from both sides will be chosen. I know all of you want to do this....some are VERY eager :-) The unfortunate point is, I will have to turn down over 70 of you. So please don't be too disappointed if you are not chosen as a judge. (I also know many of you really will not be disappointed at all.....you want to do it, but it ain't that big of a deal :-) Oh, there is something I'd like to say/relate. I have run more than a few list projects over the years, and many have included a call for volunteers. Each and every time, including this time, many of the volunteers tell me they so much so want to "give something back to the list", as the list had given them so much. To me, therein lies the fiber and the soul of this list :-) OK.....back to business :-) I am certain many of you are wondering if entries will be posted to the main Jewel@smoe list. The answer is yes, of course. I cannot say how many though, as we have no idea how many storylines will be submitted. I am not sure WHEN some entries will be posted to the list, but certainly not until after weekend, as there will be a lot of work to be done off list on this project, not to mention regular list duties (and weekend FOOTBALL!!) Well, that's about it. If I have forgotten anything, I will post about it later on....and man, do I have that gut feeling I have forgotten something (....don't EVEN think about it Harris.....I can see that brain of yours ready to jump on that "gut feeling" line I used) Again, you can start sending in your storylines now, and PLEASE send them to ME at ducksoup@spectra.net with only the word VIDEO as the subject line, and include the full names of each person involved with any particular entry. have fun and good luck....... Ladies and gentlemen, start your keyboards! :-) Mike :-) P.S. If for some reason you have no idea what is going on (you are new, or missed previous posts), just email me and I will send you the two previous posts on this project. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 1 Dec 1998 23:21:32 EST From: MAXMOUZE@aol.com Subject: Re: Mystery Jewel WAV............. Please read! Hi folks :-) I ooopsed on something....I left a major "rule" out. For team entries.....if you team up, and your teams' entry wins, only ONE member of the team can be declared a winner for whatever prize the entry gets. This is what Alan posted about the winning entry: >I'm not sure what the winner will get other than prestige >& the honor of seeing their idea possibly executed. But I >can promise a pair of good tickets to the 1999 Jewel >concert of the winners choice & probably arrange a meeting >with us & Jewel so we can tell you in person how much we >love your idea! The rest of what he wrote on the matter is below. So remember, if you team up, and your team wins, only ONE person get's the prize Alan described above.
