Mike Carmona, Jr. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 23 Nov 1998 15:29:48 EST From: GolfPnkGir@aol.com Subject: 2 Jewel articles in Entertainment Weekly Hey~ Here are a couple of articles about Jewel in Entertainment Weekly: The Love Bug: Jewel might want to get her "Hands" on this: The jacket of the pop songstress' best-selling poetry tome, _A Night Without Armor_, looks strikingly similar to the cover of a 1995 teenybopper paperback in Bantam's "Love Stories" series. The book's packaging company, 17th Street Productions, noticed the resemblance after reading about Jewel's literary effort in, of all places, Entertainment Weekly. "We were like, 'Damn, this looks like _My First Love_ with that mall chick on it!' " says spokesperson Ryan Nerz. Nevertheless, 17th Street Productions isn't threatening legal action, and _Armor's_ publisher had no comment. We're guessing it was just a coincidence: Jewel wouldn't be caught dead in that outfit. This next article is a prediction of Spirit's success: Jewel, "Spirit": "Hands," the first single from her heavily anticipated second album, looks to have legs, but don't expect a fighting Spirit in the first week. Stiff competition may keep the poet-folkie from big initial numbers. "Jewel's story is going to be in the long run," says Robert Shapiro, Atlantic's exec VP and general manager. ~Emily, the Sunrise Angel~ *I'd rather see the world from another angle* ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 23 Nov 1998 15:23:48 -0600 From: "Jessica Winn" Subject: "Hands" Feature at website Angels, I need your help getting this going. So if Jewel postponed the performance, i would think that is super rad. Because of this, I had made previous agreements to send copies of "Jewel's next CD" to two list members who reside there, and they agreed (of course) to reimburse my expenses. (hi Mike....hi Avihu :-) So I figured that while I'm at it, I might as well help out any other list member who lives there in getting a copy of Spirit. Once I get a bunch of names, we could also discuss the possibility of me sending all of them to one or two EDAs in Israel, and they in turn could ship them out to the others, assuming the postage saved overall would be worth the effort. Otherwise, I could just ship them individually. So, if you live in Israel and don't want to wait until the next century to get Spirit, then reply and we'll set something up. Mike :-) P.S. Of course, if any other overseas EDA lives in an area where it will be hard to come up with a copy of Spirit, email me and I'm sure I can help you out too :-) * If you are new to the Jewel list and need a helping hand, * or have a burning question about Jewel and/or the list, * The Jewel/EveryDay Angels List Homepage & Guide is at: * http://www.spectra.net/~ducksoup * Many basic/common Jewel and list questions can be answered there :-) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 23 Nov 1998 16:13:07 -0800 (PST) From: KaDeMa Subject: The Feather/Foolish Games Someone had mentioned earlier about the feather on the Spirit CD, this also looks like the one Jewel wears in her hair sometimes, and is on her guitar strap...does anyone know the signifigance of this or it's background? Well -- I was hoping you could help me with this.. ^_^ I know you all have favorite quotes from the songs. But they have to have meaning.. like you couldn't use something like "Woke up to find I lost my mind. Lost heart. Lost nerve. I've lost my favorite word, Emily" because it doesn't have any meaning without the rest of the song. I think that Spirit tries too hard to show off Jewel's talent. I accredit this to poor marketing on behalf of the record company. They think that Jewel needs something new to sell record, but if they would have done any research they would have found out that Jewel's fans are much more loyal than that. And even if you ignore that, for gods sakes, the first CD sold 10 million copies over a loooong period of time (or whatever). A bad CD doesn't do that. True Jewel may be experimenting with her music- trying to avoid "repetitiveness" as she said, but I still think she was pushed to create something new, more popular Oh yeah, Atlantis Morsette may be able to write songs that have catchy tunes, but she isn't a better song writer. I listen to POY all the time, while I had sold Jagged Little Pill quite some time ago. - -Jon the angel who has some faith - ------------------------ Today's Hottest Sports Cars: http://sportscars.cjb.net ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V3 #651 ***************************
