Jewel's !!! she sings all the parts (I think there's only two but it may be three - with two other voices providing the harmony, I'm not too sure though cos it kinda sounds like three-part harmony but I can only pick out two voices... hmmmmmmm... did that make sense???) :-) god I love the way she harmonised it so beautifully... sends a chill up my spine every time I hear it... I didn't hear all of it, but I managed to ascertain that Jewel mentioned Jennifer Love Hewitt, Carson's girlfriend. Did anyone tape it or pay close attention? What did she say to him? ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Nov 1998 21:58:30 EST From: MAXMOUZE@aol.com Subject: "Absence of Fear" on Felicity Hey, EDAs... First we get "Hands" on "Dawson's Creek", now "Absence of Fear" was on "Felicity". Once again, it played during the finale scene and it was beautiful (the scene). I haven't bought the album yet so it's my first time I heard this version of it. I also heard a lot of the other songs from the Webcast so I've basically heard the whole album already (I mean the album versions, I've heard 80% of the songs before) - -- Mark ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Nov 1998 22:05:06 EST From: KSmith7507@aol.com Subject: "We are loved beyond our ability to comprehend" Dear EDA's First of all could someone fill me in on the Mr.BB thing I guess I just missed it.Secondly, I love spirit it's beautiful but I guess most of you know this. Only thing that disappointed me was "Innocence Maintained" First of all this was my fav. some on I just don't like the way she sang it. Maybe if I hadn't gotten so used to her singing it the other way I would like it more. I also think "Down So Long" is great single material. In one of the songs I am sure someone else has noticed this, but their is a male voice singing with hers. Anyone know who that is? ~Pshyco Angel~ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Nov 1998 22:07:19 EST From: Kaylee154@aol.com Subject: Jewel TV in NYC Hey there, I just got back from NYC. It was awesome. I was just wondering if someone taped it? I should've (but didn't) realize it was going to be live. I was right in front, and Jewel signed my Spirit cover!! I was so excited! I picked up Spirit here in PA last night, so when Jewel was handing out copies to the crowd I was shooting away with my camera. I took the film to Walmart (thank goodness for 1 hour developing) and they turned out incredible. I also have pics of Jesse with my friend. He was absolutly histerical. Well, If anyone could get back to me about taping Jewel TV, I'd be glad to pay for the tape, S&H, and I'd throw in copies of my pics ;) Thanks in advance, Karen (who's still in complete shock from being two feet away from Jewel) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Nov 1998 22:19:52 EST From: CocoaJEC@aol.com Subject: I touched Jewel Hi eda, I just thought I would like to share my Jewel encounter today. I was outside in the rain, luckily with a fellow eda. First I screamed to Jewel that I loved her and she actually said , I love you too. I was in shock since she never says it back. This other guy screamed it and she just rolled her eyes. She also went around touching peoples hands. She touched mine and than I screamed and she came over and held it again. I was like she just touched me. I even touched her shoes.Than she signed stuff, but on the other side. I was asking her to come and sign my book and she was ok in just a minute. Than she came over and signed my book. She also gave the first cd to me. So that made my day. She is so gorgous! The cd is great too Clint the beautiful angel ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Nov 1998 22:32:03 EST From: TFace151@aol.com Subject: RE: Jewel got it down to the T OK! I am getting upset. I normally don't post because I don't want to keep saying what everyone else is saying. But latly I am getting fed up. First it started with people saying "I thought she didn't believe in God she changed" and now THe whole SNL discussion, was POINTLESS!!!! Who cares what she wears, and if you do you are shallow. And then i read this post, the one I am now responding to now, and I was upset. I know I shouldn't be, but I am. Ok, I agree that we shouldn't idolize her, but there is nothing wrong with wanting to meet her. Because I want to meet the person who has inspired me so much I can't put it in to words means I Idolize her. Well then I guess we all do. I guess we always have and it isn't a new thing. Now if you watch Toatal request on a regular basis, the fans of Backstreet Boyz and Nsync idolize them. Beatles fan idolized them. Notice everyone in the room today was calm and not seeming to be ready to faint, which to me shows they don't idolize her. However they were there so they could meet her. THere is nothing wrong with wanting to meet someone you admire. I don't know why this upsets me, but it does. ALso I would like to say that I am spreading her inspiration everyday to everyone I meet. So just because I am not helping homeless and I am sitting in the MTV studio to see Jewel doesn't mean I am not spreading her "message". You are making it sound like she is Jesus, spreading her inspiration. I guess in a way she is like Christ, the both speak of being a good person. I just wanted to voice my opinion, and I hope I didn't offend anyone. ANd if I did I am so sorry. Love, Teresa << Jewel said it the best. She said the EDAs were special because she inspired us, not because we idolize her. The problem is so many people now idolize her and spend their lives sayign "Oh I got to meet Jewel because she's my idol". That is why the EDAs are no longer special, because the majority idolize her instead of taking her message and saying "I'm going to go and make something in the world based on Jewel's messages". A real EDA would not want be so involved with meeting Jewel rather than spreading her inspiration across the world. And that's nto the case anymore. >> ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Nov 1998 23:28:19 EST From: JohnTracy4@aol.com Subject: Flame,Flame,Flame... Is it just me or does she use that word alot in Spirit? Sender: owner-jewel@smoe.org Precedence: bulk I don't get it. There are 5 songs in Spirit where she says something about flame. You know Kiss the flame and fragile flame and so on and so forth. Anyone got anything to say about this??? Just wondering. Also. In the beginning of the CD Cover when she is thanking her mom. She mentions about being a human and I felt as if she was trying to say something about being natural and everything. If this is the case, then why are the pictures of the feet in the cover all oiled up? I don't think this is very natural. Sorry If I am being too critical, but besides all of this I believe that "Spirit" is a really good CD!!!! Deep Water: much better live, it's slower on the album and the dynamics of the song are all thrown off. Still a great song though. What's Simple Is True: I like this one alot. I agree with Tim sounds alot like a Tara song something I thought listening to alot of the tracks on this album. But I'd prefer it sound this way than the striped down under produced POY. Hands: I assume most of you have heard this one. I like it alot Kiss The Flame: Nice sparse arangment again Tara soundiong, also reminds of the sundays. Dont really like the chorus. Deep Water: one of my fave Jewel songs, I listen to it on angel food rather than on the album. Slower, the dynamics on the "I've Been Down so Long" part are alomst gone, much better live, but still good. Innocence Maintained: Nice and simple I like this one alot, just good old Jewel and the band fits in nicely, makes you wonder if some of the POY tracks could've been helped by a band. Jupiter: I like this one but I think it's one of those songs that needs to grow on you, my first impression on this song was "wow, you can really hear how her song writing has grown" Fat Boy: Once again too slow, much better live. Enter From the East: once again slower, but I like it better tahn the live versions I've heard. Barcelona: never heard this one live but my guess would be it's slower (seems to be the albums theme "lets make everything slower), I like this one alot, and I could imagine what the "let me fly" part sounds like live" Life Uncommon: I like this one, nice arangement and the only track with backing voclas which works really nice. Do You: Jewel does kind of a Dylan impression in the virst verse, surprised no one mentiooned this yet. nice song. Absence Of Fear: Nice piano song, another one that sonds like Tara for some reason. All in a very good album. I have no clue why they slowed down all the songs. Down So Long really suffers cause of this. A much better album than POY, hehe I've only had Spirit for 4 hours and I've listend to it more than POY. John ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Nov 1998 22:15:07 -0700 From: Rhino Subject: SPIRIT, of course! Hi peeps! I got Spirit today, and after only the first song, I was shaking my head in amazement! I really wasn't sure what I expected from this album. I guess I thought it would be a giant helping of Hands (although I like Hands) with a side of more Hands. But it's not. So many songs are SO moving! I love "What's Simple Is True". I hadn't heard that one until now, and it almost brought tears to my eyes. Still does. :) The new rendition of Deep Water is SWEET! She really gave it a nice tweak. As for Innocence Maintained.... well, I was hoping for at least the same MELODY! It's done very well, but it's gonna take some definite getting used to. Every time I hear it I wanna sing it the old way. Oh well! I still love it! Down So Long, definite HIT! Good rendition of one of my fave tunes! Even my brother (an unabashed Jewel hater) came in the room and started groovin to it. He said he liked it!! Whoah!! The other songs I was really taken by are Jupiter (so funky!), and Life Uncommon (anyone else think that sounded like a country song?). Awesome songs! Barcelona and Kiss The Flame were really nice, too, but not my faves. And as for the solo acoustic tracks, I loved Enter From The East. It was raw, and it sounded just like the old version. Very nice. Fat Boy... well, she coulda done some more takes, maybe layered the vocals a bit... I like some of my other angelfood recordings of it better. The Spirit version just sounds too... well... unfinished. Just something about it.. no real emotion behind it. The older versions made me wanna cry, she sang it with such PASSION!! Absence Of Fear. Wow. Very nice deal with the piano. Love the heartbeat sound in the background! I loved this song with a vengeance :) before, and she kept it real in this new, fully realized version. Go JEWEL! :) Little Bird.... HOW did they get that to come out so clear???? It sounds so fuzzy on my Jewelstock tape! ;-) The layered vocals sounded awesome, but Jewel kept stopping at the wrong times. :) I guess me just picky. :) Ok, that was all! All in all, I'd give it a full point above POY! Oh, and did any notice on MTV how she said her next album might be COUNTRY? She said "Will you still love me?". She was really flirting with Carson, too! Hoo boy! LOL ... I guess I'm just jealous! LOL Oh, and I heard that girl sccccccrrrrreeeeeeeaaaaaaammm I HATE YOU at the end!! I wondered if she was just so overwhelmed by Jewel being there, and then she didn't get a CD, so she was screaming at Jewel? Weird! I dunno!
