Have been computer bereft for a while so I've missed a lot of discussions. So if anything I say has been talked to death- sorry. First thing is that horrible book "A night without armor II the revenge"- a so called " parody" by some idiot. It's probably been out a while but I just noticed it the other day at Tower Records. At first I thought it might be funny - but the poems are neither funny nor thought provoking- they are just completely dumb. The author says in the preface that he wrote it in 4 hours and it shows. I am a writer myself, and a recently completed volume of poetry which took me about a year. Now as I am faced with weekly rejection letters about what I think is excellent work, it makes me sick a no talent like that guy gets a big publication run. Second- SNL - Anyone notice last time she was on that John Goodman was the host and this time he made an appearance again (but didnt host)- A closet Jewel fan maybe? But at the end, when everyone waves and hugs, both shows Jewel just kind of stood there and maybe shook a hand or two, my guess- she still has the humbleness of a regular gal and doesnt need all the hollywood self congratulatory pathos. Last- Anyone got a spare ticket to Leno this week? I'll be your bud forever! email me at HRENB@aol.com if so. And goodbye soon to all the SoCal EDA's I met- I'm moving back to the Midwest next month. In the year and a half I lived in L.A. I saw Jewel 3 times in concert, visited the great meccan shrine that is Java Joes, and hit one LRT. It's been a blast. I was thinking that we should brand our affiliation with being and EDA by creating a simple little logo or animation of EDA. So, I thought that the best way to do this would be to make a simple image and distribute it to all the EDAers... I think it would be really neat to place this image on your Jewel web sites or anything that has to do with Jewel, and is Internet related. What do you think? Go to the link below to see the simple little image: http://www.crsites.com/eda.gif ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Nov 1998 18:59:18 -0500 (EST) From: Jonathan Maton Subject: SNL performance - who wants it? Hey all! This being my first day on the Jewel mailing list, I was a little discouraged what looks to be a regular poster disgruntled with the state of the list... oh well, in all honesty, you find that on every mailing list... Anyways, as my first act as a new member... I have the SNL performances on VHS cassette and am willing to make copies. I would really like to get some more film footage so maybe someone missed it and wants to trade? Don't mind making copies for non-traders, either, just supply the blank and postage. I recorded with a HiFi VCR, so it sounds great. (Jewel sounds great anyway, right?) - -Jonathan jmaton@unf.edu ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Nov 1998 18:37:57 -0500 From: "Willms, Gregory J." Subject: RE: No JewelStock 2? I'm not giving UP!!!! Let's Have an Auction! I think that some people (newer EDA's/EDA's that missed JS) are kinda missing the how's and why's of JS. So many tiny details came together just right enabling that event to occur. And there are many reasons now that make a 2nd JS next to an impossibility. The first and most obvious is the size of the list. The way the list is now, a 2nd JS would basically just be a normal concert. There's no reason not to expect a turnout of maybe one or two thousand people. Think about it, there have been an awful lot of posts from people mentioning a 2nd JS and wanting to meet her. Another reason is the general disposition of the list. It's totally different now. Back in the JS days, it was like a close family, very few people who posted had unrecognized names. The concerns of the EDA's were totally different than they are now, and most of the discussion had to do with Jewel and her music, not the kind of stuff that's going on now, like how ugly Jewel's apparel is. If an opinion-based thread started, more often than not, the opinions were recognized, and put to bed, end of story, no fighting. Furthermore, it seems like people want another JS for the wrong reasons. JS was a gift FROM Jewel TO the EDA's. It was a thank-you. She was giving something back to us. Everyone was excited to finally get to meet each other in person, hang out and talk, and get to listen to Jewel's music and poetry in a very intimate setting where we all knew that we would be safe from obnoxious screaming meatheads and oppressive venue management. We knew no one would ruin the night for everyone else. And when Jewel hung around outside after the show, everyone was elated. Everyone had thought of that possibility, but I don't think one person that was there could honestly tell you that they KNEW she would come out and that they would be angry if she didn't. Now it seems like everyone just wants to meet her, to talk to her. Everyone wants Jewel to do something for THEM. It's all ME ME ME. Oh, you just want to tell her how much she and her music have meant to you? Well there are a lot of other ways you can thank Jewel other than pinning her in an alley after a show and shoving yourself in her face. The odds of meeting Jewel in as intimate a setting as JS in this day in age are probably over a billion to one. I'm not trying to dash anyone's hopes, but we all must face reality at one point or another. I've wanted to meet Dave Matthews for about 4 or 5 years now, but I realize that I probably never will. How do you think these people maintain their sanity? They have to get out of the spotlight and away from the fans sometime, especially once they reach superstardom, like Jewel has. I'm not saying that I don't want there to be another JS, I think it would be great for those people that missed out on the first one, but think about where Jewel is now, put yourself in her shoes, and most importantly, think about WHY there should be another JS. Is it because Jewel wants to give something back to us again, or is it because YOU want her to? ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Nov 1998 19:24:24 -0500 From: David Beery Subject: A heartfelt thanks to Alan(MrBB) & AmyJo Bershaw, Jeff Wasilko and Mike Connell Sender: owner-jewel@smoe.org Precedence: bulk Though Joey beat me to the point, I would like to take a minute of everyone's time and give a heartfelt thank you to the following people, who in one way shape or form comprise the backbone that keeps jewel@smoe.org operational: Alan(MrBB) & AmyJo Bershaw, Jeff Wasilko and Mike Connell. MrBB (aka Alan Bershaw) - the EDA's liaison with Jewel's Management - Thank you for all of your timely tidbits of Jewel info that let the EDA's know the very latest of all things Jewel. More often than not, the EDA's have knowledge of Jewel happenings before the media is able to spread the word. Thank you for all of you time spent arranging for high quality recordings to be tape treed by the AFB and other trees. I know all of us enjoy some good angelfood now and then.. With out your help we could now enjoy the quality recordings that we are blessed with. Even the ability to have angelfood is privilege, not a right. Alan Bershaw (aka MrBB) - The real living, breathing soul behind MrBB - Though I have not meet you in person and only know the MrBB in you, I would feel bad for not thanking you for your time and energy being you, answering all of our questions often asking the same thing in slightly different ways, not walking out on us when we got into major spats over such trivial matters, hosting LRT's, and everything that I have not mentioned. AmyJo Bershaw - You know what they say about a man.. For every good man, there is a great woman. Thank you! Jeff Wasilko - The home to the EDA's and many other families. With out you there would be no smoe.org. Because of you many thousands of folks are able to discuss their feelings, hopes, desires about their favorite, and not so favorite musician. Thanks again Jeff. Mike Connell - As acting list manager/moderator you have sorta become the father of a large family who call themselves the EveryDay Angels. Sure we have our days when we fight over seemingly trivial issues that somehow grow to become earth shattering issues. You have a wonderful way of giving us a loving smack on the rear to get us back on track. I know that you are active on several mailing lists at smoe.org and yet you somehow find a way to help us all. You often respond to our quaint emails with deep thoughts in the matter of minutes. I am sure you must have a huge phone and ISP bill to pay every month. Thank you Mike. I know that there are many many other folks that deserve a heartfelt thanks, but these are the people that I have decided to thank today. It is my hope that every single EDA will take a moment to thank, in one way shape or form, those you feel help contribute to humanity. Thanks you all! I'm not going to give a big critique...i'll let the rest of you do that. I just want to say that "Down So Long" is fabulous on the CD...i didn't like it on SNL as much. I am posting to inform you all about something I read tonight at work. I was sitting on break at work and I started to read the Boston herald. On the front page it had a small pic of Jewel and said to turn to page 39 for a review of "Spirit", so I did. Doing so I found the author of the review to be totally ignorant and oblivious to certain situations ( and good music ). The author wrote something along the lines of - Jewel failed on her 2nd album and said how her voice was annoying in some songs and that she didn't like a lot of the songs or appreciate them either. This angered me greatly. Then, she really pushed my button when she decided to comment on the song " Fat Boy " or as some may know it " Fragile Flame " .......about this song she ( the author) say that Jewel patronizes a fat boy in the song.........HELLO!!!!! this woman obviously doesn't know the background history to this song! This to me was an ignorant statement! Everyone is entitled to their own decisions but this really angered me sorry...................Well that was my story so I shall leave you all for now Eric The Shy and Quiet Angel!!
