(According to Jeanette). : > Derrick Did I describe what they looked like? Basically, it's the size of a normal calling card, gray in color, and 3/4 of it the picture of Jewel on the cover of 'Sprit', and the 1/4 just says Jewel Spirit. It could be an Asian thing since they pasted two stickers on the liner itself and not on the case (gripe) which says 'Includes 5 free contact cards'. I think apart from the cards, the American/Asian versions are hopefully the same... And I'm really wearing my CD out... I'm very much in love with Barcelona... and Absence of Fear is just incredibly beautiful. I actually teared up the first couple of times I heard it. First, I have to say that if you were using your 'membership' in this list as a way to boost your ego or self-worth (as indicated by thinking you were 'demoted' and less special), then you are bound to feel this way. I has been fun being part of something special for the last three years. We've had all sorts of perks by virtue of this list. But, the list was started as a way for Jewel's fans to communicate AND spread the word to others about this wonderful singer. This list was insturental in getting Jewel airplay and attendence at her concerts in the early days. Jewel has acknowledged this in many ways over the years. Maybe you don't like there being 4-5 time as may people on the list as in '96. I don't particularly, but I have not even thought of leaving. Alan's changing role does make me think that Jewel figures she's outgrowm us, or that we're no longer useful to her. The EDA's may have been the driving force behind Jewel's fans in the past, but it no longer can be realistically thought of that way. The CD we pushed so hard in the beginning (I even bought a copy for the college station here so they would play it) sold 10-12 million copies. So, we were successful and now it is time to live with the changes that come from success. Subject: **JC: Something to think about** After reading through a couple SNL posts, I noticed not much at all was said about her MUSIC. I know some people said she sounded ok, but I'm mainly referring to Down So Long. I don't have much to say, because I don't think it can be summed up better than by doing the following excercise...everyone who has the Innerchange Tapes, go grab tape 1, and forward it to about half way on side 1, then listen to "Been Down So Long". Yes, this IS the same song Jewel played this past Sat. night, although it's quite hard to believe. Well, I guess I should say, the lyrics are the same at least. Don't know about the song. This is an example, a good one IMO, on how Jewel's musical career has evolved. Be it good or bad, her style is just plain different now. I don't like most aspects of it, but again, some things are good about it, the fact that mainstream audiences will most likely go out and buy the CD now, thus giving Jewel more money that she'll hopefully use for some for various charities. Anyway, I just thought it was interesting with me being a Jewel fan now for about 2 1/2 years, that until Jewel sang the chorus to Down So Long on SNL, I had no idea what song it was. Pretty sad really. Of course the Innerchange tape is the only copy I have of that song in it's band-free stage. Which brings me to a question... are there other tapes of Jewel out there with this song on it? I'm sure there are, but which ones? I have a bunch of live shows, yet only this one version of Down So Long...it actually surprised me. Ok, on to some other things...I think Jewel should have been asked to do some skits on SNL, especially with her acting she's doing now. If she *was* asked, then I'm not sure why she turned it down. But I kind of doubt they asked her. I think some of those skits would have been perfect for her, especially the music-related ones. Or the "Spirit" skit...did anyone catch that? I thought they did that FOR Jewel, yet, she never appeared on it. I think she could have brought much life to the show, other than her performance. It'll be interesting to see what songs she plays the remainder of the week on her other TV performances, among other things. Like it or not, Jewel IS different than she was in 1996 and before, and I'm sure will continue to change. We may not all agree with things she's doing, etc., but it's her choice. She has her reasons I'm sure. Maybe her reason is to shock all the EDA's! ha ha, doubtful, but it seems like it's working. But she's still Jewel, and she always will be, so we should keep that in mind. She has the same heart still. And if anyone has any other complaints, about some other things, then ask Jewel herself "what's up" about that later on tonight during her internet chat session! Good idea ay? Wow, I did it. Derrick PS...thanks for all you've done for the list Alan, and I'll look forward to viewing your updates, etc. on Jewel's website! ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Nov 1998 18:28:21 +0100 From: "Dr. RomeAntic" Subject: Spirit I'm 1 minute into Deep Water and I already ADORE this album!!! Well while I'm waiting to get connected to send this... Sparks, the Distant Angel ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Nov 1998 11:26:40 -0800 From: bpodeszw@stu.blanchet.k12.wa.us Subject: EDA's TODAY Hey. I agree with RussRive@aol.com completely. You know, Jewel is nice and talented and all that stuff but the EDA's are becoming spoiled. I subscribe to all the mailing lists for EDA's and I was blown over by the 249 messagess. I think that is so sick, look what we're turning into, beasts practically. Lets eat her up, stare at her, look for mistakes. The old EDA's or should we say "The souled EDA's" were very much more down to earth and firm. The EDA's turned into a Hanson club thing, you know; here today gone tomorrow. I'm not saying all EDA's are like that. There are some great people out there! But we're suffering, and we need to face a truth. And I do have to agree that the chance for a second Jewelstock is too small. Imagine how crowded we would be with all those "barfly" fans going over the "vets" and the "loyals." Mr. BB made it sound nice. But it isn't. We are very, very, much put down by what he did. We are a lot lower and "special" because of this move. We are not the chosen ones now, we are just things shoved to the side. WHAT HAPPENED TO US EDA'S??? Sorry if this offended anyone, I really didn't mean to :-) A piece of my heart, Jewel's Angel ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Nov 1998 14:16:22 EST From: Soul42@aol.com Subject: No JewelStock 2? I'm not giving UP!!!! Let's Have an Auction! Hi EDAs, I became an EDA the summer of JewelStock 1, but I wasn't able to go due to the fact that I was only 16 and live in Texas. Now I've been only on the news- list for the last few months for obvious reasons, but after MrBB's post about his transition I decided to post again this once. Now, we've all asked for JewelStock 2 over and over again and I really don't know what's the status on it cause I haven't been on the discussion list. I guess for the most part is seems impossible but I refuse to give up. I know the number of list members is by far more than it was in JS 1, but I don't think that should be a reason not to have JS 2. When it comes down to it, sure say there was a JS 2, more people would attend, However, still really only the most dedicated of EDAs would actually fly out to wherever it was and spend the money on the trip. So I don't think the volume should be a reason not to have JS2. Also, I have another idea for those of us never giving up hopes on meeting Jewel. Tori Amos had an online charity auction (it's actually still going) at the Best Buy website where u can bid on the best seats in the house as well as the guaranteed chance to meet Tori backstage and all the money goes to her charity RAINN. I know alot of you won't like this idea of paying to meet Jewel, but for those of us who just have to, MrBB if yer listening, maybe u could suggest to Jewel that she do something similar. On Jewel's next North American Tour she could do an auction on the best seats to each show as well as the chance for the winner to meet her backstage before or after the shows. This will allow atleast some of us to meet Jewel and get an autograph and take a picture with her and the money goes to charity ( ). If anyone doesn't get what I mean by this auction and hasn't heard of the Tori one I can explain further if u email me. I know there will be those of you that don't believe in this concept of paying to meet someone, but this is just my idea as an EDA that missed out on JS1 and really wants to meet Jewel. Keep in mind that the money will go to Jewel's charity. I sent email to the lady mentioned in the faq to obtain the Innerchange Days and Rare Angels tapes. I would also like to begin collecting the video footage of Jewel.
