We can make the world a better place by helping out wherever possible, even if we're doing it alone because we can't say "Nobody's doing anything so what can my little hands do?". We shouldn't be made useless, we have to use our hands. And also we have to use them for good things and we can't misuse the fact that we are human and understand the world. X, XX, and XXX - yes. Some R-Rated movies are pornos (soft-core, mind... but that's a different subject). If Jewel was in a B-Grade movie, who cares?! I can't see her doing an adult flick. Doesn't seem to be her style. But remember, three of the hottest movies of all time are basically B movies - the Star Wars trilogy (my fav, btw). So don't get all wadded up about Jewel MAYBE being in a B movie. If she was, she was. If not, no biggie. Right? :) Besides, check out the Internet Movie Database (www.imdb.com). You'll see that Jewel (the original EDA) has two movies to her credit. Jewel (the not-quite-an-angel) has one. And THAT is the porno flick. So, there it is. Our Jewel (that sounds like she belongs to us, doesn't it?) is NOT the porn actress Jewel. If you want visual proof, go out and rent Beverley Hills Sex Party. (And, no, I HAVEN'T watched it... :) ) Amazing what you can find on the net, isn't it? ;) Bright blessings, all. May the Fortunes smile upon you... Fulmer" Subject: Re: What's the meaning of "Hands?" Heya :) How are you? You asked what the meaning of Hands is...I think it varies with the person but I'll say my interpretation. I personally think the song says that you should ignore what others say about you and that nobody should have the power to tell you that you can or can't do something. You are your own person. So what if you can't stop hunger by donating that can of mixed vegetables or soup to a food shelter? "My[Your] hands are small, I know"(Yeah, you're only 1 person and can't do much), "But they're not yours they are my own"(but Who are you to tell me that I can't do my small part in helping in the larger solution?). I think the 2nd and 3rd verse has to do with someone not being as rich as someone else, or as "valuable"(in whatever way you can imagine), but their personality was still as unique and loveable as the next guy. Yeah, poverty might have struck, and thus separation and heartbreak, but it definitely wasn't permanent because someone had the courage to stand up and speak out against the injustice that was being done to "povertize"(Is that a word) the individual. There are some people out there that will gladly go out and help, but are shy and if criticized, will stop and just be a bystander again. I think the song basically says that if someone's trying to help, as long as (s)he's not hurting, nobody has any right to stop that person, and that we, as people, should go out and help as many people as we can, no matter how much we can. Maybe you can't stop homelessness or hunger, or find the cure for cancer or Muscular Distrophy(spelling?), but if you buy a homeless person a hamburger or donate a can of food or donate money to the various organizations responsible for the research fighting diseases like Cancer, AIDS, and MD, you've done a part(and a well received one I might add) in the situation :) It may not have solved the problem 100% but it doesn't mean not to do it. Well, I certainly rambled about it enough...I'll leave you to think about that :) Take care and Have an Excellent Day! :o) Seth Fulmer mailto:usfulmer@mcs.drexel.edu mailto:st96t879@post.drexel.edu mailto:kaosking@voicenet.com webpages: http://www.voicenet.com/~kaosking Cool Quotes and stuff :) "I used to know you...But not anymore...Your substance has been subtracted...Word by word" - -Jewel "Carnivore" ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Nov 1998 10:38:18 +0100 From: "Roel Cobben" Subject: JEWEL links Hi EDAs, I want to add more links of very good Jewel site to my JEWEL website ... Even though this info has been posted in bits & pieces, here's clearer answers to both: #1) MrBB, can you please educate me on the two versions of Jewel's "Hands" singles? OK, here's the scoop on that as far as I know. Although there are no current plans to release a CD single of "Hands" in North America, two versions of the single have been released in various world markets. These can easily be found by North Americans in any store (or online store) that carries imported CD singles. Both versions of the "hands" single contain additional tracks. The version of "Hands" on both is the same mix as the album version which you've all no doubt heard on the radio. One version of the single contains two live tracks as extra cuts. These extra cuts are live performance recordings from her very first European Promo Tour in late 1996. The tracks are "Who Will Save Your Soul" & "You Were Meant For Me" recorded solo acoustic for broadcast on VARA FM radio. They were recorded on October 16th, 1996 at Bullet Studios in Nederhorst den Berg, Netherlands. This session was originally broadcast on VARA FM as a "2 Meter Session" on October 26th, 1996. The other version of the single (which I've not heard) contains the additional tracks "Innocence Maintained" & "Enter From The East". According to the liner notes, "Enter From The East" is an acoustic studio version. Since the album version is also acoustic, I'm assuming its either the same as the album version or likely a totally solo acoustic version of the album take with no embellishments. (The album version does have a cello part in addition to Jewel's acoustic guitar track.) Perhaps one of our International EDAs can do a close comparison & tell you more, since I've not heard it. I'm also assuming the version of "Innocence Maintained" is also the album version. Please correct me if anybody finds I'm mistaken on this. #2) I hear lots of rumors about Jewel's touring plans. Will she tour soon? Jewel does have tentative touring plans for next year, but no specific information is currently available yet. Heres the "basic plan" subject to change, of course. In January, Jewel will likely continue a European promo-only tour where she will do various media appearances on TV & radio. Actual concert performances will likely begin in February. Her tentative plan is to begin the concert dates in Australia & New Zealand & its likely that Steve Poltz will tour with her as support act. (So many International fans will finally get to see the hilarity & magic of them together!) In March, this same Jewel/Poltz tour will travel to Japan (& Asian countries) & possibly continue with some North American concerts. In April, the Ang Lee movie, "Ride With The Devil" (still no word on title changes) will premier & I'm sure Jewel will have some media involvement with that. May & June of 1999 is likely be the next major European Concert Tour which will culminate in Jewel's next major North American Concert Tour afterwards. Touring North America will likely be the plan for much of next summer. You'll all be the first to know when actual dates are confirmed. Hang in there. There will definitely be Jewel concerts galore in most world markets in 1999! I look forward to seeing many of you in NYC next Tuesday when the EDAs infiltrate MTV! :-) MrBB ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 14 Nov 1998 00:26:43 +1000 From: Louise Subject: Silver Lining Question Hey angels, me again, Okay my dad and I were listening to Silver Lining and Jewel and Steve got up to the part where they go "grocery baggers, graffiti taggers, golf ball shaggers," now my dad is a golfer but he doesn't know what a golf ball shagger is. It even talks about Jewel's grandparents, Yule and Ruth. It tells us how she learned to yodel, and the MANY traumas she experienced as a child/teenager. I knew Jewel had a rough childhood but after reading this book I am even more inspired by her. The things she has gone through are amazing and sad and yet she survived to tell the tales, through her poetry and songs. It also has 8 glossy gorgeous pictures of Jewel in the center of the book.If you want to know about Jewel's upbringing I suggest you buy this book. Some parts where Jewel was in the deepest of despair brought tears to my eyes. Although small, this book is a great read. It was sad but beautiful and I'll never take the things I have in my life for granted ever again after reading how Jewel lived. Jewel is one very inspirational lady and the most determined person I know. Well not personally but u guys know what I mean. Buy the book, it was only aroudn $7.00 and worth every cent :) Louise, "one of the kindest Angels" "In the end only kindness matters" - Jewel ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V3 #603 ***************************
