This has already been posted, I think. BTW, have you noticed that reviews of SPIRIT have been more polarized than those of POY? Now that Jewel has "made it" revewiers either want to deify or crucify her. The review from Irish Times made her out to be Saint Jewel, and the NME one just completely trashed her. I don't remember such extremes with POY. Subject: Jewel in another calendar! I saw a 1999 calendar at a Barnes and Noble the other night with Jewel in it. And it wasn't a "Jewel" calendar. It's called "Making Faces". It's about make-up, different styles, etc., and the editor/author is Kevin Aucoin. I have a book by the same name, so what they did was select a few pictures from the book, and use those for the calendar. So out of ALOT of pictures, only 12 were used...and one of those was Jewel's picture! She's on the month of May...hmmm, that's interesting, since her b-day is in May too. Probably just a coincidence though. Still to this day, I think this is one of the best pictures I've ever seen of Jewel. VERY close-up picture, just her face. It's very artistic. And to be honest, I'm quite surprised this shot of her hasn't gotten more attention from the list, other than the fact that many may have never seen it. So everyone, go get this calendar! It's worth the $11.95 in my opinion. If I didn't already have the book, I'd get the calendar too, if nothing else, just for the great pictire of Jewel. And it's on very good quality paper, almost has a silky effect to it. Others in the calendar include Lisa Marie Presley, Cher, Courtney Love, Shalom Harlow (on the cover), Isabella Roselini, and many other famous celebrities. I really have no idea if this may be old news or not but I figured I'd pass it along anyhow... I work in this independent record store and yesteday we received a import shipment which included two seperate "hands singles" one of which is #7567-84419-9 and includes 1. Hands 2. WWSYS (live) 3. YWMFM (live). The other #7567-84404-2 includes 1.Hands 2. Innocence Maintained 3. Enter From The Past (acoustic). Also aside from the different track listing the covers vary a little. As of yet there is no news of a domestic release... Also if anyone else can supply the serial numbers to the other countries that may have a version of this single I'd appreciate it and maybe others who may be as anal as myself who are looking for all the different versions in all formats to add to their collections... Oh I also forgot to add this, the live tracks appear to be from a radio broadcast in the Neatherlands October 16th, 1996. israel ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 12 Nov 1998 10:30:15 -0600 (CST) From: Jay Christoph Johnson Subject: video angelfood (willing to trade for GMA) 1) if anyone is looking for video AngelFood (or audio for that matter), I'm always happy to trade (either for something I don't have, or for blanks and postage). I have a pretty good-sized selection at http://chips.luther.edu/johnsoja (go to the video or tape trading links). 2) Also, if anyone taped the Lenedra/Jewel segment on Good Morning America, I would really like to get a copy. (instead of setting the timer on my VCR, I figured I could set my alarm so that I would wake up and be able to tape it. Of course, I woke up at 10 AM, and I don't remember my alarm going off at all, but my roommate says I got up and turned it off......) I would be willing to fill up a whole 2 hr tape with Jewel stuff of your choosing if anyone can get me a copy of the segment. 3) Thirdly, on the audio side, would anyone be willing to trade me for a copy of the tape "Filling Tiny Spaces"? I had it at one time, and I still have the case and j-card, but I can't find the actual tape anywhere. Again, I would be more than happy to copy anything I have for this tape. This is largely thanks to their insane schedule... I mean, Much is on 16/8, which is cool, but are these guys seriously running the same six hours, four times a day all week!? Anyway, that was not only my first time seeing the video properly but my first time hearing the song properly (RA does no justice) and I just basically don't hate it at ALL anymore. I'm still not certain that I love the lyrics but it is a beautiful song and yes, the bit where she's on her knees DID give me the shivers. The drums ARE live (just a li'l perk^_^) and the particular style of the simple fills during the fadeout just basically got me open... I love that snare on the one thing. (Guitar players say, "What the hell is he talking about?") I can say now, with firmness, that I like it a lot more than Cold Song or Love Is A Rose. Her gentle vocals are a welcome change from the harsh howls still resonating from the last record, and songs like "Down So Long" actually got my foot tapping. Still, if you’re a lyrics buff like me, you’ll find it hard to overlook sentiments like, "If I could tell the world just one thing/It would be that we’re all OK." Aaargh. On another note, Jewel called in Mix 98.5 Boston this morning and she cracked me up. She and the dj's were joking a lot, but they did mention a lot of cool things like Lenedra singing on the cd, Steve Poltz, and if Jewel should get a new car or not:) Well that's all for now. Recently I have found a webspace service that offers an Unlimited amount of webspace. The only catch is that all the files have to be less then 500kb. This does make it very easy to add full length songs through RealAudio. The quality, of course is lesser than wav files or higher bandwidth RealAudio files, but they can still be listened to quite well. With this in mind, I was wondering if it would be legal or 'ok' to put all of Jewel's live recorded songs on RealAudio and on that service? It is not like these files are MP3s or high quility wav files that could be easily put on CDs and sound great. Rather, these files are pretty low quaility and if someone did want to make bootleged cds of them, they would sound bad. So, what do you think? Mike? Mr. BB? anyone else? If it is ok to do please let me know. Also I have pretty much all of Jewel's songs on tape, and I will not add any songs that come directly from a CD of hers in full format, meaning it would be just a small clip like 30 seconds or so.
