[kristin ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Tue, 13 Oct 1998 19:24:20 -0500 From: kristin Subject: KRISTINS OPINION - MODERATION (is the key?) Everyone's probably feeling all cozy and fuzzy inside now that Mike's back and we're safe from everyones harsh, hurtfull true opinions so I feel it's safe for me to post. I'll try to keep this short and sweet. We all appreciate Mike now, we all respect him, he's the "Omnipotent Being" of the EDA's but what did this teach you? It taught me that there's people out there with opinions that are being silenced by moderation. Sure, some people took it too far and I don't honestly believe that a list of 1700 people could survive without someone like Mike, but some valid opinions are being sensored because of the size of the list. I sense that some of the list veterans, people we never want to loose because they are the key to the history of EDA's, are loosing interest in the list. DIDN'T BEING AN EDA USED TO MEAN SOMETHING SPECIAL? I don't get that feeling anymore. Some opinions aren't allowed to be expressed. Some discussions are terminated before they begin, and the most interesting people on the list no longer have the desire to be a part of the list. There's rarely any discussion anymore as to worthwhile projects, EDA gatherings, and I read EVERY POST and post pretty often, and still have made very few friends on the list. as far as moderation goes I think lee (NiKoS12) said it best with the analogy "It's just like when I was a kid and my dad bought me my first gum in a tube ... I was just so overwhelmed that I squeezed the whole tube into my youthful mouth ... I think if we give it time, we will all settle down, and start being able to eat the gum in a tube a little at a time" If you look at the situation we've been moderated since the day I joined a year ago, so the freedom of posting ANYTHING we wanted for ONLY 24 HOURS (THEN BACK TO CAPTIVITY, so to speak) made some people go a little crazy. As far as the list goes, we need to recapture a bit of positive "Spirit" here. (maybe the album title wasn't so bad after all) WE AREN'T A JUST A MAILING LIST, OR A FAN CLUB, WE'RE EVERY DAY ANGELS I don't know about everyone else, but I'd like to stay that way. I think it's a beautiful song and I'm just happy that Jewel is making another album. When she played Fragile Flame and Fat Boy during her Unplugged they sounded alot like her normal stuff, but then again maybe thats just because it was Unplugged.=)If anyone likes Sugar Ray at all on this list, I'll just make a comparison. I don't really like them but a friend gave me their Cd, but anywayz.Fly was their huge hit single right? And then the rest of the CD was hardcore metal. So I'm just saying that the whole rest of the new CD might have a different sound then the first single. Just an idea.=) Write me back and tell me what you think. ~*Belou, The Amphetamine Angel*~ "Shut up over there...Jesus!"-Jewel Kilcher ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 Oct 1998 01:07:09 -0300 (ADT) From: Jesse A McDonald Subject: NJC:anger I'm seeing a lot of complaints that being an EDA isn't special anymore. That they're starting to seem like just ordinary, no-good people. Jesus, what did you think Jewel was talking about? Did you think I'm Sensitive was addressed solely to yourselves and those select few who were on the list first? WE are everyday angels. WE, human beings, are everyday angels. FLAWED. Don't be so FREAKIN' sanctimonious!!! No matter HOW hardcore a Jewel fan you are, no matter HOW close you feel to her, YOU'RE STILL MADE UP OF GOOD AND BAD LIKE ANYONE ELSE. I'm still a baby on this list by some standards, so maybe this seems presumptuous coming from me, but I'd like everyone to think about what it means to them to be an EDA. If it means transcending the baser elements of humanity, then drop the ED, grow some wings and fly to heaven, for Christ's sake. | Jesse Dangerously http://www.chebucto.ns.ca/~ad309 | subterranean seraph 16 Trust Everyone | ad309@chebucto.ns.ca Ekam Sat, Viprah Bahudha Vadanti | ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V3 #547 ***************************
