Just wanted to take this opportunity to plug Stephanie's LRT gig. I've never heard Jane, but I've had the great privilege of meeting Joel Cage. I'm the folk director at WTTU in Cookeville, TN. We have both of Joel's albums which get regular play on our station. The man is awsome! His brand of folk music is rockin and rollin and raunchy! I can't make it to the event, but do me a favor. Ask him to play a protest song! Julie "There's nothing like poverty to get you into heaven. Seriously, I have missed out on the soap opera of people fighting on the list about small disagreements in wording that escalate in to this huge big deal where no one will always agree and in the end don't make sence. This Jerry Springer atmosphere, it adds spunk! So I want to say first, maybe we should have unmoderated day every few months (I can hear a quiet a few people grumbling against that). Second, I am not intentionally starting a arguement, BUT I would like to stand up to mention this list frenzy catches me still in a Jewel disillusionment time. You certainly are not required to like all pieces of her (pun?) to be a part of this list and right now you can't black ball me out for saying I was not excited about hearing the new song on the radio. Maybe I'll skip buying this album? In closing, I'd like to say that it's nice to see some old-timers to the Jewel list still. OH and before I forget JAY I got the tape been super busy but will thank you later. And if anyone lives in Chicago and wants to chatter with me after this post give me a e-mail. Wow, it really is amazing. There is a type of song that sounds perfect to me, that has a certain sound, and a certain way of singing specific lyrics, and Hands is the epitome of this. It has a Foolish Games-ish chorus and an upbeat chorus, both catchy. I really like this song and glad it wasn't a song I knew beforehand. I am going to be sad to hear my favorite personal songs adored by people all over the world. - -- Mark ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 11 Oct 1998 10:55:42 -0500 From: lindes15@juno.com (Lindsey M. I kinda feel guilty for taking this oportunity to post something that would never normally be allowed, but I have to. I would like to see jewel's past unreleased songs on MP3 so all the list members can hear her music without having to give out adresses or spending money on tapes and packaging. For anyonbe who dosen't know what an MP3 is, it is a compressed music file that is CD quality, but small enough to download over the net. I want to get the highest quality tapes available, and convert them to MP3s. Then put them on a site that requires a password that would be posted, so only list members can dowload them. This is far fetched and would drive a lot of people crazy, but it would be nice for list members to have a collection of all of Jewel's music. - -Jon ~The Angel who "has some faith" - ------------------------ http://www.elitecaraudio.com/1/Jon_Arena main: jonarena@sprintmail.com backup: jonarena@juno.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 11 Oct 1998 11:59:41 EDT From: MAXMOUZE@aol.com Subject: Re: Wow, I am gonna post all my aggressions now (No Offense Mike, I love ya) In a message dated 10/10/98 11:08:10 PM Pacific Daylight Time, layaway@earthlink.net writes: << 1. You treat Jewel like a queen, some goddess from another part of space or something, *bing* she's not, actually she's just like you, pretending to be bigger. >> Yeah, this does get kind of annoying. And everyone saying Jewel changed them and she's so perfect. Of course she's perfect when you have a thousand people saying "Jewel is good because...". In reality, Jewel is just another singer who is wise beyond her years but is still rebellious in some states, such as drugs and sex and even religion. << 2. You guys want another album of Steve Poltz's work? Try 'Pieces Of You' that whole album is based on Steve's works, you want to listen to a real musician, with real cases of feelings and insecurities? Listen to Poltzy! >> Call me crazy but I don't believe Steve actually did write as many songs as everyone claimes he does. I don't think he's capable of "Foolish Games" or "Daddy" or "Angel Standing By" or "Don't" or "Amen" or "Little Sister" or "Pieces of You". And, I don't think Steve is a real musician. I mean his music is sort of unlistenable. "I love girl, girl love me/It not all it crack up to be". It's nice to listen to but I don't think it's very thought-provoking. None of his songs go beyond relationsihps. << 4. It troubles me, you don't like a song because of it's quality, but, because it's Jewel! Give me a break, this new song is over produced, and sounds like she is Natalie Imbruglia. (Sorry Natalie) Jewel needs to find her own sound! >> I don't know why there is so much discussion about "Hands". It's a good, well-written, nice-sounding song which is the type that the country will eat up and get overplayed. But at the same time, it's still a good, well-written, nice sounding song. << 5. If you think I listen to flames I get about "You suck, Jewel rules" Well think again, I feel like I am one of the list members on here who feels this way and will actually come forward and speak my mind on everyone, and everything involving Jewel. >> I think some EDAs are immature. They think they have to be Jewel's protector, always saying "You suck because you gave an opinion about Jewel." As long as the opinion is justified, I don't think it should be questioned. I have to admit it's rather annoying having people talk about Jewel as if she is their savior. I mean, Jewel's just another human being and what they know of her is probably not what is really her. << 6. I know, I know, it seems like I wish Jewel a horrible death yes? Oh but how untrue. I used to love Jewel, not to the extent of giving her my left breast, but I liked her a lot, I loved her, her music. But now, to me, she seems...how do I put this? About as fake as Pamela Lee Anderson. From her books, her movie carreer, and her lyrics she is producing just to make a new album. Fake with a capital 'J'. >> Well, I can see where you're going with that. But, fame will make anyone fake. And Jewel has gotten very famous. << 7. Even though I really don't take your flames to heart, I do enjoy reading them, if it really bugs you what I post....then well, it must be having some effect, how nice. >> Uh, I think you do take it to heart, or you wouldn't be saying you didn't. If we don't have little idiosynchrasies in the list from time to time, we will become parodies of ourselves through no fault of our own. Anyway, we are still taking submissions. Maybe we can premiere it on the same day as "Spirit". If anyone has a song they want to perform, e-mail me. Wlel I think the song is still just titled "Carnivore". She added the "Actually it's called Never Trust..." part because then she'd comment on how her grandma gave her the advice. She can't say "This is called Carnivore, my grandma gave me that advice" if it's just one word.
