[dijewe1@juno.com (Diana Ruiz)] seeking Corey Meyers [Robby VanSciver ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Sun, 11 Oct 1998 00:32:49 -0400 From: Mike Connell Subject: Who MrBB is and how you can help him :-) Hi everyone :-) Lately, some private email to MrBB is causing him some distress & although he enjoys hearing from EDAs, a bit of understanding can help maintain enjoyability in his relationship with all of us. This post is intended to explain to those that do not know, who MrBB is, how he came into his present role on this list, and the limitations of what he can do when it comes to requests that are made of him. First of all, I need to help explain some list history & what MrBB currently does for the EDAs. Prior to MrBB, there was a young girl named Hiranya, who worked for Jewel's mom/manager Lenedra in her San Diego office. One of Hiranya's duties was that she monitored Jewel list activity. She also *regularly* partook in list discussion, while also giving us the early scoop on a lot of news about Jewel. That was when the list was much smaller than it is now, and I mean almost one-sixth as large. It was fairly easy for her to do this with the list that small. As the list grew with Jewel's spiraling popularity, the number of daily posts grew to about 100 a day, much of it what we call NJC (No Jewel Content). Because of that the Jewel-news list was formed. Due to this increase in list volume, Hiranya moved to Jewel-news, and subsequently lost a bit of the pulse of this list. Eventually, in the fall of 1996 she and her family left the San Diego area, and they (Jewel's management) did not fill Hiranya's "list position" with anyone else. Enter MrBB. Months before Hiranya left, during early 1996, list member MrBB & Jewel's mother/manager Lenedra became friends. Due to his technical skills in sound engineering and archival management (certainly NOT his typing skills ;-) this relationship slowly grew & Lenedra asked him to accept the position of managing Jewel & The Kilcher Family's recording archive. He accepted. Since he was now in regular contact with Jewel's management & he was already a regular on this list, MrBB agreed to voluntarily fill Hiranya's vacant role. That role being simply to forward news about Jewel to this list, (generally long before it hits the rest of the world), while still participating in list discussion. However, he lives in the Northeastern USA, and is nearly 3,000 miles away from San Diego. He does not have constant access/contact with Jewel. Yes, he works on projects within the Jewel-team & is friends with Lenedra, but relaying personal messages, gifts & requests to Jewel are beyond his responsibilities. Expecting him to relay personal messages or gifts to Jewel & fulfill personal requests is not only unreasonable, it is asking him to take advantage of his good relationship with Lenedra. Relaying information to the EDAs from Jewel & Lenedra is something he has been doing for two years now on a voluntary basis. MrBB has also been helpful & involved in many list related projects.Personal requests from EDAs involving Jewel and/or her management are totally out of the realm of these activities. He simply cannot do everything people ask of him. Also, please remember that MrBB does not have any involvement in actually running & maintaining these Jewel lists on Smoe.org's system. Two Jewel lists are actually run by me, your trusty list-manager, Mike Connell. Unsubscribing & technical questions on changing your list format subscription should be directed to me, NOT MrBB, at _________. These lists are freely provided to you by the overwhelming generosity of Jeff Wasilko who owns the equipment running these smoe.org lists. So....bottom line. MrBB doesn't enjoy having to turn people down & he does obviously care about the EDAs. He's really a nice dude, but he just cannot do everything people ask of him. Please understand this relationship and cut him some slack. MrBB wants to enjoy his time spent on the list, just like all of us. And as for what I'd like to post This is a public apology to Mike Connell, even though I had nothing to do with all this. But for him to be that pissed, someone must have done something pretty not nice (multiple someones?). Just remember everyone, Mike is a fan just like the rest of us, and the decisions about things like moderation are made in the interests of the list. Maybe you dont agree with the policy, thats fine, but thats the way it is, and I think most of us who remember the 300/post days (or for my fellow digester's, the 7 or 8 digest-a-day days) would agree that its for the better. If it wasn't for Mike adopting ownership of this list, there's a pretty good chance it wouldnt even be here anymore, and i think we owe him a huge debt of gratitude. I suppose there is one positive side of this -- this message will go through to everyone despite his modesty :) Just remember -- we've "made a place where everyone can be free and made safe. Even though we could talk about anything we want, I still want to talk about Jewel. That's all I talk about already!!!! I guess I'll just say that I LOVE HANDS!!! That song is sooo GOOD!!!!! But, it sounds different from her other songs huh? It's because of all the other instruments. And her voice is like Alanis Morressettes on her latest song!!! But I still love it!!!! She doesn't have a baby voice in this song huh? I like the baby voice, I like everything about her. Hey, that's Steves song, "I LOVE everything about you" cool/ Anyway, I think I'll go now.
