Wondering because my mom is very big on education and I was watching a tape of a little mini Jewel biography and it mentioned her years at IAA (Interlochen Arts Academy) and she pulled out this book of private secondary schools and showed me some stuff about it. I'm interested in going and was just wondering if anyone had experienced opinions on the place. Case in point...can any of you imagine what >"Hands" would sound like with her playing it solo acoustic? Yeah, not >likely. Actually, Yes I can. I mean it sounds a lot like "Foolish Games" and that sounds great acoustic. Also, when "WWSYS" came out I couldn't even comprehende an acoustic version. But it turns out it is awesome acoustic! I think she'll stick with her acoustic style but yet occasionly add a band...... jc ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Oct 1998 21:36:48 EDT From: LuverMb20@aol.com Subject: Re: producer's fault?? In a message dated 98-10-08 19:34:44 EDT, you write: << Well, I heard Hands this morning for the first time, and was very disheartened. Jesse was accurate with his assumption that this is going to be overproduced. The producer took a song that had the potential to be starkly beautiful, and diminished it with superfluous layering that I found very obtrusive. The production values befit an artist who lacks the ability to stand alone on their own merits, and require a clever producer to make a mediocre song tolerable. If the rest of the album follows this trend, its going to be a disaster. I'm afraid to hear what' been done to IM or Deep Water. Jewel needs a producer who can accent her amazing abilities; not one who will sugarcoat great songs so they will be palatable to Top 40 radio. If Jewel maintains this course, perhaps we can look forward to her future collaborations with Hanson or the Spice Girls. >> I dont know if anyone's already said this, but seriously, Jewel has a say in how her album sounds. If she didnt like it personally, it wouldnt be a certain way. Perhaps thats how Jewel wanted it. I hardly think you should be blaming the producer. Anyways, I think it is a good song. Not my favorite Jewel song (it does sound more "produced" than her other stuff, and I'm not a big fan of alot of repetition), but I like it (it has a good message once you listen to it closely) and I'm sure it will grow on me. I also think I can clarify a little bit on the repetition at the end. It isn't all "We are God's (or god's if you prefer) hands", there are a couple of places where she goes "....eyes", "...hands", and "...heart". and hey, have a great day, everyday!!! I also heard "Hands" for the first time tonight on the program Rate At Eight (the same as Jay J.) and I love it. And *swallow* I don't mind at all that it is 'over-produced'. As a matter of fact, I don't think that it is. I honestly believe that it is an absolutely beautiful, great song...just me, though. Also, they had a soundbyte of Jewel talking about what will be in her 2nd book... "I think I'm gonna pick topics, like...write on my childhood. Short stories; there's, like, the bearded lady that lived down the street from me, and, you know, this guy that lived underground that had a refrigerator as a door. I mean, there's just weird stories about Alaska. Umm...and about growing up on a homestead and giving cows mouth to mouth recesitation, you know. And I'll pick topics like sexuality, uh, fear, body image...whatever, I haven't quite figured it out yet." Cool, huh? And what's up with giving cow's mouth to mouth? Oh well, it's all good. I thought they were pretty damn good, so I went to school and tried to find some of his books, but they didn't have any of his books. I'm guessing because there's too much profanity. My question is, do guys know where his stories/novels would be? ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. All I can say is......well, I was pleasantly surprised, I really like it. I particularly like the opening about "worry being wasteful and useless" and the overall feel of the song is great. As per usual Jewel does a masterful job of "feeling" the song as she is singing it, which makes a huge difference, and is one of the things that attract me to her music. Another being her amazing voice. So out of ten..............I'd say 8.90 (with the possibility of an increase once I have listened to the song a few more times), any higher bids?!? Can't wait to see the video clip!!! MrBB I'm in!!!!, if Hands is anything to go by then I think the album is aptly named, not that I wouldn't have been in anyway, but now I'm in even more :) Has anyone heard anything about what other songs are going to be on the CD single release of Hands?!? or whether remixes are likely, as with morning song. Have a great weekend folks!! Craig. ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V3 #524 ***************************
